If an Apple Arcade game will not download or open, first check Apple’s service status and your internet connection, then confirm that your subscription, account and device are eligible for that title. The right fix depends on whether the problem affects one game or several, one device or multiple devices, and downloading or launching.
Start by narrowing down the problem
Note whether other Apple services work, whether other Arcade games are affected, and whether the same title works on another compatible Apple device. These checks help separate a broad service or connection problem from an issue limited to an account, device or game; none of them alone proves the cause.
- One game: Check that the title is available for your device and region. If it downloads but will not open, the issue may be specific to that game.
- Several Apple services or games: Check Apple’s service status and your internet connection first.
- One device: Compare with another compatible device if available. A title may not be available on every Apple platform.
- Download versus launch: Download failures call for checks of service, network, subscription and account access. If the game is installed but will not open, collect the error details and consider contacting its developer.
Check Apple services and your internet connection
Before changing device settings, check Apple’s System Status for your country or region. Apple’s connection guidance includes Apple Arcade and the App Store among the services to check. If a relevant service is unavailable, wait and try again once it is restored.
Next, open a website in a browser on the affected device. If it does not load, try another device on the same network. If that device can connect, Apple advises checking whether a VPN or third-party security software is interfering on the affected device. If the game works on a different network, contact your network administrator or internet provider about the original network.

Apple’s steps for connection problems are in If you can’t connect to the App Store, iTunes Store or other Apple services. The exact settings and labels may vary by device and software version.
Confirm your Apple Arcade subscription and account
An Apple Arcade subscription is required to download Arcade games. In the Apple Games app, sign in to your Apple Account and Game Center account if prompted. If you use Family Sharing, check that the family subscription is available to the account you are using.

Check whether the game is available on your device
Arcade game availability can vary by country or region, and a game must be downloadable on the particular device you are using. Apple notes that not all Arcade games are available on Mac or Apple TV, so do not assume that a title available on iPhone or iPad will also be available on those platforms.

If the game does not appear or its download option is unavailable, check its listing in Apple Games on the device you want to use. Apple’s Play games with Apple Arcade page explains how to find and play Arcade titles.
Use Apple’s download path and update the device
Open the Apple Games app, find the Arcade title and use its download control. Apple recommends updating to the latest available iOS, iPadOS or macOS before downloading through Games. If the game requires a newer operating system than your device can run, the update or compatibility requirement may prevent installation.

For platform-specific App Store problems, use Apple’s relevant troubleshooting guidance rather than applying iPhone or iPad menu steps to a Mac or Apple TV. Apple’s If you can’t download or update apps on your iPhone or iPad applies specifically to iPhone and iPad.

- Prioritize the download: On the Home Screen, touch and hold the game’s app icon and choose the option to prioritize its download, if shown.
- Restart the device: After it restarts, check whether the download resumes.
- Resolve any prompt: If Apple displays a billing or verification message, follow the on-screen steps to address it.
- Try again: Reopen Apple Games and check the download. If it still fails, contact Apple Support.

If an update will not install
If the game needs a newer operating system, an update problem may be part of the download issue. Apple lists device compatibility, insufficient storage, internet access, update-server reachability and an incomplete update among possible reasons an update may not finish. These are possibilities to check, not proof that storage or outdated software is behind every game problem.
Apple suggests using Wi-Fi and avoiding other downloads when an update is slow. For troubleshooting, see If your iPhone or iPad won’t update.
Game opens but will not launch or play correctly
If installation completes but the game will not open, record the title, device model, operating-system version, region and exact error text. Note whether other Arcade games open and whether Apple services are working. That information can help distinguish a device or account problem from one tied to the individual title.
Apple Support says: “Each Apple Arcade game is different. For help with playing a game, with features of a game, or about the rules, contact the app developer.” For Apple Account, App Store, service or device problems, contact Apple Support; for a title’s behavior or game-specific help, contact its developer.
