Embark’s January 23, 2026 roadmap previewed planned content for January through April under the “Escalation” theme. It was a four-month look at the kinds of additions the team was considering—not a detailed month-by-month specification or a schedule that remains current. On May 13, Embark changed its plan for major updates to twice a year, while saying routine live updates and events would continue.
What the January–April roadmap covered
Embark described the January roadmap as a preview of content types players could expect, including new enemies, maps, conditions, and other changes. The team said it was aiming for a content update every month at the time, but cautioned that the roadmap did not include every specific detail. Its framing, “Escalation,” depicted a Rust Belt growing more volatile, with extreme weather continuing to affect the setting.
The official post also made clear that the plan could change: “This roadmap reflects our current plans and is subject to change.” The announcement’s readable text does not provide a complete month-by-month list of roadmap entries, so it does not support assigning particular enemies, maps, or conditions to specific months. Why the update schedule changed
In a May 13 development update, Executive Producer Aleksander Grøndal said Embark had decided to release major updates twice a year. He described the goal as larger, more impactful updates that could genuinely change how the game is played. Embark said monthly cycles limited the impact of updates and were not sustainable for its ambitions.

The May announcement also described “Frozen Trail” as the then-upcoming October major update, with a new landscape, ARC enemies, progression systems, and other additions. What continues between major updates
Twice-yearly major updates do not mean the game is going without ongoing service. Embark said a dedicated live-service team would continue day-to-day support, including regular live updates, balance and bug fixes, store updates, and player events. The distinction is between the cadence of major releases and continuing routine activity—not between updates and no updates.
