What did Embark say about a ten-year story?
In an interview with GamesBeat, Aleksander Grøndal, executive producer of ARC Raiders at Embark, said: “We want ARC Raiders to become a 10-year journey.” The wording matters: it is what the studio wants, not a commitment to a ten-year service life or a schedule of story releases.
Grøndal said narrative and world-building were part of the project from the outset. He described major story beats as events that can change the world and move forward the story of Raiders living mostly underground in Speranza while threats press in from the surface. Players are meant to explore further and gradually learn more about ARC’s origins and purpose, though he did not disclose the larger picture.
How is the story meant to develop?
The stated approach is gradual, with the world and the Raiders’ circumstances changing as the narrative advances. Embark’s January–April 2026 roadmap described the ARC presence and increasing pressure on the Rust Belt as drivers of future developments. That roadmap is evidence of the direction the studio described at the time, not proof that every planned beat will arrive as written; Embark said its plans were subject to change.

What does the update plan mean for the story?
On May 13, 2026, Embark said monthly updates were not sustainable or compatible with its ambitions for ARC Raiders. It said it was moving toward fewer, larger updates designed to make more transformative changes and advance gameplay, progression, narrative, and the world together. That points to story development being part of broader game updates, rather than establishing a monthly story-release cadence.
In an August 12, 2026 announcement, Embark described Frozen Trail as planned for October 8 and as the largest update since launch. The announcement also said the team would continue working on matchmaking, anti-cheat, stability, and quality of life. A planned update is not, by itself, evidence of a decade-long commitment. Check Embark’s current announcements for the release status and any changes to plans.

What players can—and can’t—conclude
- What is established: Embark wants ARC Raiders to become a ten-year journey and has described a story that develops through changes to the world and further revelations about ARC.
- What is not established: a guarantee that the game will operate for ten years, a promise of continuous story content throughout that period, or a fixed schedule of future narrative releases.
- What to watch: actual updates and official announcements. Roadmaps and release plans communicate intentions, and Embark has said plans may change.
