Yes: a PlayStation Store voucher code must match the country/region of the PlayStation account redeeming it. And if you want to use a Store add-on with a physical PS5 game, the disc’s licensed country/region must match the account’s country/region too. These are two separate checks: a code can fail at redemption, or redeemed content may not work with a mismatched disc.
What has to match?
| Check | What must match | How to check |
|---|---|---|
| Voucher redemption | The voucher’s country/region and the PlayStation Store region of the account redeeming it | Check the voucher’s printed region or seller listing, then check the account’s country/region in Account Management. PlayStation’s account-region guidance and voucher guide explain the requirements. |
| Add-on use with a disc game | The disc’s licensed country/region and the account’s country/region | Check the small print on the game box or ask the retailer. PlayStation describes this requirement in its account-region guidance. |
The console’s physical location is not the deciding factor in these checks. PlayStation ties voucher redemption to the account’s Store region and disc add-on compatibility to the disc’s license region and account country/region.

Check the account, voucher, and disc before buying
Find your account’s country/region
- Open PlayStation Account Management and select Your Information.
- Choose Edit next to Residential Address and check the country/region shown there.
PlayStation says the country/region selected when the account was created cannot be changed later. If it does not match a voucher, that voucher cannot be redeemed on that account. See PlayStation’s account-region page.
Check the voucher’s region
For a physical voucher, look for its printed country/region marking. For a digital code, check the seller’s region description and ask the seller to clarify if it is missing. A voucher from another Store region will not redeem on the account; PlayStation states that the code must be for the same region as the account in its voucher guide.

Check the disc’s license region
If the add-on is for a physical game, read the small print on the back of the box or ask the retailer which country/region licenses the disc. A disc’s region matters for using Store add-ons even if the voucher itself was redeemed successfully. PlayStation says a disc add-on cannot be used when the disc’s country/region does not match the account’s country/region. See its account-region guidance.
If the code fails or the add-on is missing
- Identify the code. Check whether it is a 12-digit voucher code or a 10-digit discount code; they are not the same kind of code. PlayStation’s voucher guide covers voucher redemption.
- Check the signed-in account. Confirm that you are using the account whose Store region matches the voucher. PlayStation’s voucher troubleshooting guide explains that a code from another country cannot be used.
- If redemption succeeded, check where the content went. Verify the account that redeemed it and look in the Library or transaction history. Some content, such as in-game currency or a season pass, may require you to relaunch the game before it appears. See PlayStation’s add-on troubleshooting guidance.
- For a disc game, verify the disc region and edition. Confirm the disc’s license region matches the account’s country/region, and check that the add-on is for the game edition you own.
- If it still does not appear, contact PlayStation Support or the game publisher. Availability and release timing for DLC can be determined by the publisher, and not every add-on is necessarily available in every Store. Check the specific Store listing or ask support about the title.
What region locking does—and does not—mean
PlayStation’s guidance establishes a region match for voucher redemption and a region match between account and disc for Store add-ons used with physical games. It does not establish that every PS5 game or every digital edition follows the same rule. For a particular title, confirm the add-on’s Store listing and compatibility with the publisher or PlayStation Support rather than assuming that all editions or DLC releases are interchangeable.
