Not demonstrably. Metacritic’s highest-ranked Star Wars game scores higher than its highest-ranked Star Wars film, but that comparison of list leaders cannot show whether games usually rate higher. Metacritic says its games feature omits many older titles and excludes mobile games and compilations, and the available sources do not provide a complete, like-for-like comparison of all games and films.
What the Metacritic scores show
Using one aggregator and its critic Metascores keeps the comparison on a common scale. In Metacritic’s Star Wars games feature, the Xbox version of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (2003) leads at 94. The feature also lists Star Wars Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II (PC, 1997) at 91 and Star Wars Rogue Leader: Rogue Squadron II (GameCube, 2001) at 90. The feature leaders establish that at least one listed game outranks the top-listed film on this snapshot. They do not establish that the typical game beats the typical movie: a top score is not an average or median, and the two ranked lists do not represent equally complete populations.

Why “usually” is hard to establish
Metacritic explicitly warns that it does not have every Star Wars game in its database because many predate the site; it also excludes mobile games and compilations. Coverage therefore cannot support a claim about all games in the franchise. A fair statistical test would also need to decide whether to include only reviewed console and PC releases, how to handle multiple platforms or editions, and whether to compare means or medians. The cited features do not provide a complete controlled dataset for those choices.
The scope of “rated” matters, too. Metascore is a critic-score measure; an audience comparison would require aligned audience ratings across both media. The sources here do not supply such a comprehensive matched dataset, so they cannot settle whether fans rate games more highly than films.

Keep Rotten Tomatoes percentages separate
Rotten Tomatoes’ Tomatometer is a different measure from Metacritic’s 0–100 Metascore; its percentages should not be compared directly with game Metascores. In the Rotten Tomatoes film ranking accessed October 4, 2026, A New Hope and The Force Awakens are each at 93%, The Last Jedi is at 91%, and Solo: A Star Wars Story is at 69%. On October 2, 2026, GamesRadar+ reported that Star Wars: Galactic Racer had a Metacritic score of 88 after 50 reviews, describing it as the fifth-best-rated Star Wars game. The report said that score was above every Star Wars film except the original.
