Yes. Aimbots that give a player unfair aiming assistance count as cheats under Epic’s rules, and Epic says it uses anti-cheat and gameplay-integrity tools. But Epic does not publish a current estimate of how many Fortnite players use aimbots, and a suspicious shot by itself does not prove that someone cheated.
Why aimbots are against Fortnite’s rules
Epic’s Terms of Service describe Gameplay Integrity Tools used to keep games fair. Its End User License Agreement defines cheats broadly as programs, methods, or processes that can give a player an unfair competitive advantage. An aimbot that supplies unfair aim assistance fits that category.
Epic also says it uses anti-cheat technologies to identify and prevent cheating. Its terms allow anti-cheat and fraud-prevention technologies to collect and analyze information about a computer and its software for that purpose. Epic does not publish a detection guarantee or explain the precise mechanics of those systems.
How common are aimbots in Fortnite?
There is no current percentage or player count in Epic’s reviewed public materials that establishes how many Fortnite players use aimbots. A clip, unusually accurate shot, or fast elimination may look suspicious, but it is not proof on its own that a player used a cheat.

What happens if Epic finds a player cheating?
Epic’s support policy, which it says changed in April 2025, sets a one-year matchmaking ban for a first cheating offense and a lifetime ban for a second. Epic also said that some existing lifetime cheating bans that had been in effect for more than a year were lifted during the policy rollout. These are the sanctions described in Epic’s published cheating policy, not a guarantee about every individual enforcement decision.
A matchmaking ban blocks entry to Epic- or creator-made Fortnite experiences for the ban period. The sanctioned player can still log in and use text or voice chat.

When does Epic issue a ban?
Epic does not disclose when or at what time it bans players after tournaments or other games, saying that sharing such timing could affect its security system. Its Terms of Service also say it does not have to disclose how Gameplay Integrity Tools work or which specific tools were detected. So there is no public basis for promising that a suspected cheater will be banned immediately or for describing a particular detection method as confirmed.
How to check or appeal a Fortnite sanction
- Check the in-game notice: Epic says a ban notice appears when the player launches Fortnite.
- Check the account email: Epic says the email associated with the account provides the sanction type and duration.
- Open the Sanctions and Appeals Portal: The portal displays sanctions and supports appeals where available. Follow its instructions if you believe the sanction was applied incorrectly.
What if you are worried about third-party software?
Epic does not make software-specific determinations about whether a particular third-party program will lead to a ban, and third-party software is not officially supported. Avoid treating a general online claim—or a program’s own assurances—as confirmation that it is permitted. Epic’s rules focus on whether software or a method provides an unfair advantage.
