Yes, but native PS/2 gaming keyboards are rare and usually legacy products, not a mainstream current category. Most modern gaming keyboards use USB. If your goal is an older PC’s PS/2 port, distinguish a keyboard that genuinely supports PS/2 from a USB-only model connected through an adapter: the wrong passive adapter will not work.
What “PS/2 keyboard” can mean
PS/2 is the six-pin Mini-DIN keyboard connection found on many older PCs. Three different arrangements are often confused:

Do not assume that a plug with USB on one end and PS/2 on the other is an active converter. StarTech explains that passive adapters do not translate signals; a USB-only keyboard needs an active converter.
Why gamers used to seek out PS/2
PS/2 became attractive partly because it predates USB and suited older computers, operating systems, firmware setup, and some KVMs. It also avoided the limits associated with USB’s ordinary boot-protocol keyboard reports: with suitable keyboard hardware and firmware, native PS/2 can support n-key rollover (NKRO), reporting many simultaneous key presses.

That is a rollover advantage, not proof that PS/2 is always faster. A USB gaming keyboard can also offer full-key rollover and a high report rate. For example, Corsair lists the USB-connected Raptor K50 with full-key NKRO and a 1,000-Hz report rate; the USB Raptor K30 is also listed with full-key NKRO. These product specifications illustrate what USB can support; they do not establish current retail availability.
Rollover, ghosting and input lag are different questions
Rollover: how many keys register together?
- 2KRO guarantees registration for certain pairs of simultaneous keys.
- 6KRO generally reports up to six ordinary key presses at once, with modifier keys handled separately.
- NKRO means the keyboard can report all or nearly all simultaneous presses its hardware and protocol support.
Razer notes that its NKRO behavior works through a direct native PS/2 connection, while its USB gaming matrix is designed to provide comparable practical gaming behavior over USB (Razer’s explanation of anti-ghosting and NKRO). NKRO is not automatically necessary for gaming; many games rarely require more simultaneous key presses than 6KRO accommodates.

Ghosting and key blocking
Ghosting is an unintended key signal; key blocking is a real pressed key that fails to register because of limitations in the keyboard’s matrix or implementation. “Anti-ghosting” is not necessarily a promise of full-board NKRO: a keyboard may protect common gaming-key combinations without guaranteeing every combination. Kinesis explains the distinction between 6KRO and NKRO in its Edge RGB manual.

Input lag
PS/2 does not use a USB polling interval in the same way that USB keyboards do, but that fact alone does not establish a lower end-to-end gaming delay. Switch debounce, keyboard scan rate and firmware, the operating system, the game, and the display all affect input timing. Treat claims that PS/2 is inherently faster as unproven unless they refer to controlled measurements of the specific keyboard and system.

Are modern gaming keyboards available with native PS/2?
Native PS/2 models are rare, usually discontinued, and not a normal current buying category. Mainstream gaming keyboards overwhelmingly use USB, including wired USB-A or USB-C models and wireless products. Some older keyboards supported PS/2 directly or included a compatible adapter; used, refurbished, industrial, or enthusiast-built options may still turn up, but check each listing and revision rather than relying on a model name alone.
USB does not rule out NKRO or gaming features. Kinesis lists its TKO barebones as a USB Type-A wired keyboard with an NKRO mode, Game Mode, and a 1-ms response-time specification. That is a USB alternative, not a PS/2 keyboard; the specification is not an independent comparison of real-world input lag.

Choose the connection that matches your goal

A PS/2 connector alone does not guarantee NKRO. Rollover depends on the keyboard’s matrix, diodes, controller and firmware, as well as the motherboard, KVM, or converter in the path. Conversely, USB keyboards can implement full-key NKRO, as the product examples above show.

- Confirm the port. Check the motherboard label or manual for a six-pin PS/2 keyboard port. A PS/2 connector may be keyboard-only, mouse-only, or shared; color conventions are not a substitute for the manual.
- Verify the keyboard’s protocol. Look for explicit PS/2 support in the manual, product documentation, packaging, or manufacturer page. An included adapter only demonstrates compatibility for the model and revision it shipped with.
- Match the adapter to the keyboard. A documented dual-protocol keyboard may work with a passive adapter. A USB-only keyboard requires an active USB-to-PS/2 converter. Check the converter’s direction: PS/2-to-USB is not USB-to-PS/2.
- Test a direct connection first. Remove hubs and KVMs while diagnosing. Confirm letters, modifiers, arrows, function keys, and the number row before trying macros or lighting controls.
- Test the exact rollover you need. Use a keyboard tester in the operating system and press the relevant combinations. A browser test does not prove firmware-setup or pre-boot compatibility.
- Test early boot separately. Restart and try entering firmware setup. A keyboard working in Windows or another operating system does not prove it will work before that system loads.
- For a KVM, test the full chain. Keyboard, adapter, KVM, PS/2 port, and firmware or operating system can each affect compatibility. Test the features you rely on, not just basic typing.
What to expect from an active converter
An active converter can make a USB-only keyboard usable for basic input on a PS/2 system, but it does not turn the keyboard into a native PS/2 design. Compatibility depends on the particular keyboard, converter, motherboard, and any KVM in between. RGB controls, macros, media keys, USB hubs, vendor software, profiles, and high USB polling-rate behavior may be unavailable or altered. NKRO is not guaranteed to survive conversion.

Check product status before purchasing: StarTech marks its PS22USB converter discontinued. Its PS22USB datasheet describes that product, but does not make discontinued stock a current recommendation.
Troubleshoot a keyboard that does not work
- Nothing registers with a passive adapter: verify that the keyboard explicitly supports PS/2 signaling. If it is USB-only, try a compatible active converter instead.
- It works in the operating system but not BIOS: test a native PS/2 keyboard if available, check the motherboard’s firmware settings and documentation, and confirm the converter supports pre-boot use.
- Some combinations fail: test the keyboard directly, bypass the KVM, and try a basic or 6KRO mode if the keyboard offers one. The converter or keyboard mode may limit rollover.
- Lighting or macros disappear: treat this as a feature-compatibility issue, not proof that basic keyboard input has failed. Those functions may rely on USB or vendor software.
- Results are inconsistent: remove hubs and KVMs, try the motherboard’s dedicated keyboard port, and test a simple legacy keyboard to isolate the computer from the converter. Power down before changing a native PS/2 connection unless the hardware documentation explicitly permits hot-plugging.
What to check in a used PS/2 listing
Because most native PS/2 gaming keyboards are legacy products, condition and documentation matter as much as the advertised features. Before buying, verify the connector and protocol, keyboard layout, exact model revision, key and modifier operation, cable condition, and whether any claimed adapter was supplied for that specific model. Older hardware may have worn switches, brittle cables, unavailable replacement parts, or no current firmware support.
