Yes—some Dying Light 2: Stay Human side quests can be missed as the story advances, but most remain available during post-story free roam. To reduce the risk, complete new side quests before pushing the main story forward, especially quests that appear during a story mission.
Which side quests can become missable?
The available guides document several specific lockouts, but they do not establish a complete list of every side quest that can become unavailable. Treat these as known examples, not an exhaustive checklist.

The Ball is in Your Court
PowerPyx says The Ball is in Your Court becomes inaccessible after main quest 9, Revolution or Into the Dark. Complete it before advancing beyond that point if it is available. PowerPyx’s side-quest walkthrough was published on February 2, 2022.
The Carriers questline
Speak to the first Carrier in Quarry’s End before Revolution or Into the Dark. According to PowerPyx, that Carrier becomes inaccessible afterward, which can prevent you from starting the questline.

Aitor and Sniper’s Alley
Choices can determine whether a side quest becomes available. PowerPyx’s story choices guide says telling Jack Matt the truth about Aitor enables the Aitor side quest; lying means it will not become available. Helping Hakon at the end of Revolution or Into the Dark starts Sniper’s Alley.
How to avoid missing quests
- Do newly available side quests before advancing the story. This is the safest general approach, since most quests are available later but some have story or choice conditions.
- Before Revolution or Into the Dark, check for The Ball is in Your Court and speak with the first Carrier in Quarry’s End.
- Pay attention to dialogue choices involving Aitor and Hakon. Their outcomes can affect whether the related quests become available.
PowerPyx’s side-quest walkthrough says most side quests can still be completed after the story in free roam. That is reassuring, but it does not mean every quest is safe to postpone.

Can co-op help if a quest is already inaccessible?
Possibly. PowerPyx says much inaccessible content can be revisited by joining another player’s co-op session, but not the Prologue area. Techland’s support guidance says quest-related progress is saved only in the host’s session. If you want progress on your own save, host the session or play solo; joining someone else does not guarantee your quest progress will carry over. Techland’s co-op support article was modified May 25, 2023.
What if a quest is stuck rather than missed?
For a quest that has started but cannot be completed, Techland Support describes selecting an earlier quest through the campaign menu:

This is a troubleshooting option for a stuck quest, not a guaranteed way to restore side quests that became unavailable. Techland’s instructions were modified March 28, 2024: I cannot complete a quest / got stuck in a mission.

No exhaustive, current, version-specific list is established by the cited guides. They date to 2022, so they may not capture every later change or bug. For example, a separate PowerPyx guide reports that To Kill or Not To Kill may appear at different times for different players or fail to spawn; that is variable behavior, not a dependable story cutoff.
