Gear Artificing upgrades a piece of finished gear through the Gear Assembly interface; it is separate from making the gear itself. To attempt it, select a target and one of its stats, then provide a matching sacrifice piece and a catalyst for the gear’s region. Failed attempts build progress toward a guaranteed success on the next attempt once the meter reaches its limit.

Before you start: Gear Assembly and the quest’s limits

The walkthrough for Gear Artificing says to progress until basic gear and the Gear Assembly feature have been introduced. It does not verify a specific story chapter, Authority level, or unlock prompt for a quest explicitly named “Gear Artificing.” Check the current game for the exact unlock and objective wording rather than relying on an assumed quest sequence.

Artificing applies to already assembled gear. It is not the gear-production step: Endfield’s official tutorial reference also describes Gear Artificing as consuming materials to improve gold-quality gear. That tutorial detail is available as a search-result excerpt rather than a page directly reviewed here. Official game site

Gear Artificing walkthrough

  1. Unlock Gear Assembly. Continue until the game introduces basic gear and makes Gear Assembly available. The exact quest trigger is not established by the walkthrough.
  2. Choose a piece you intend to keep. Artificing consumes additional resources. Gear’s base item and stat lines are described as fixed, so decide which finished piece and stat are worth investing in before proceeding.
  3. Prepare a sacrifice piece. The dedicated walkthrough says it must match the target’s gear type and rarity—for example, use Armor for an Armor target.
  4. Obtain the regional catalyst. The catalyst must match the target gear’s region. The walkthrough reports that regional stock redistributors sell catalysts and that stock may be limited.
  5. Open Gear Assembly and select the Artificing tab. Choose the target gear, then select the particular stat you want to improve. Progress is tracked separately for each stat on each gear piece.
  6. Insert the sacrifice and catalyst, then attempt artificing. If a material is marked Good Match, the walkthrough says it improves the chance of direct success. An official tutorial excerpt separately says a material gear with higher base stats than the target slightly improves direct-success chance; because the tutorial page itself was not directly accessible, treat that as corroborating guidance, not a verified exact probability.
  7. If the attempt fails, check the progress meter. Failure advances progress for the selected stat and target. According to the walkthrough, reaching the meter’s limit guarantees success on the next attempt.

How to choose what to artificing

There is no universally best target established by the available guidance. Prioritize a piece you expect to keep, then consider its gear slot and type, rarity, region, intended stat lines, and any set effect relevant to your build. Region matters practically because the catalyst must match it; the walkthrough also recommends saving potentially limited-stock catalysts for gear you plan to use long term. That is resource-planning advice, not a proven optimal build rule.

Quest objectives, rewards, and current interface notes

The official quest database entry reviewed is “Paving the Way” in The Hub. It covers AIC progression, factory use, and producing Miner Overalls; it provides context for how gear production can appear in quest progression, but it does not establish the exact objectives or unlock sequence for a quest titled “Gear Artificing.” The third-party walkthrough’s reward labels are ambiguous, so exact itemized rewards, NPC interactions, and objective prompts cannot be stated reliably.

In an official update announcement, the Arknights: Endfield Team wrote: “Gear Artificing Optimization: The [Gear Artificing] screen now features a new [Auto-Artificer] tab.” The announcement lists this under “Optimization Content Still in Development,” so it does not confirm whether the feature is currently released in your game version.
