Flame Skewer is a Shadow of the Erdtree Ash of War that Queelign drops after his second invasion. It lets a compatible weapon or thrusting shield perform a flame-wreathed thrust followed by a second flame attack, and it grants Flame Art affinity. You need both Elden Ring and its Shadow of the Erdtree expansion to obtain it.
What does Flame Skewer do?
Flame Skewer is a skill associated with Queelign of the Fire Knights. Its item description reads: “Enwreathe armament in flame and assume a low stance before skewering the enemy in a single motion. Strong attack unleashes a follow-up flame attack.” In practical terms, the skill begins with a thrust; pressing the strong-attack follow-up performs another flame attack.
The Ash grants Flame Art affinity. Its listed FP cost is 18, with the follow-up listed at 8 FP in the item reference. These are game-data values and may change with updates. Flame Art is a separate build decision from weapon compatibility: affinity can change a weapon’s damage type and attribute scaling. Bandai Namco’s combat guide explains that Ashes of War customize a weapon’s skill and that changing affinity can alter damage and scaling.
Where do I get Flame Skewer?
Defeat Fire Knight Queelign after his second invasion. If you encountered him first at the Church, his next encounter is in eastern Belurat, Tower Settlement. Reach the plaza from the Small Private Altar Site of Grace and defeat him there to receive the Ash.

To equip an Ash, use the Ashes of War option at a Site of Grace after obtaining the Whetstone Knife. The available choices depend on the weapon; check the menu for the specific armament you want to use. Bandai Namco’s guide to Ashes of War describes this process and their weapon-type restrictions.
What weapons can use Flame Skewer?
The item reference lists infusable medium, large, or colossal armaments that can thrust, with Colossal Weapons excluded, as well as thrusting shields. Listed weapon families include:

- Thrusting swords and heavy thrusting swords
- Katanas, great katanas, and twinblades
- Spears, great spears, and halberds
Those family names are a guide, not a guarantee for every individual weapon: the weapon must meet the Ash’s thrusting and infusability requirements, and Colossal Weapons are excluded. Confirm the exact weapon in the in-game Ashes of War menu. For a build, weigh the weapon’s existing scaling, your preferred attributes, and whether Flame Art suits your damage plan. The available information does not establish one universally strongest Flame Skewer weapon or a current performance ranking.

Yes. Flame Skewer is a gameplay reward in Shadow of the Erdtree, so buying the expansion does not directly grant the Ash—you still have to defeat Queelign after his second invasion. Bandai Namco states that the expansion requires the Elden Ring base game. Its official expansion page lists editions containing the DLC and platform availability; check that the edition matches your platform and that you own, or are also buying, the base game. The expansion was announced for release on June 21, 2024, by FromSoftware.
