Ubisoft has fixed several documented stability problems in Assassin’s Creed Mirage, including a crash or unresponsive state tied to replaying missions through Animus Sequences. That does not mean every PS5 crash has one universal fix: the cause may be an outdated game, a damaged installation, a license issue, a particular save or mission, or a broader console problem. Work through the steps below in order, starting with the least disruptive.
First, identify when Mirage crashes
Note whether the game closes before the title screen, while loading a save, in one mission or location, or at random. Also check whether other PS5 games crash. Timing helps narrow the likely cause:
- Before the title screen: Check game and system updates, licenses, and installation files.
- While loading one save: Try an earlier save and preserve a backup; the issue may be tied to that save or checkpoint.
- Only in one mission or location: A reproducible game-state bug is more plausible than a general console fault.
- During an Animus Sequence replay: Make sure the game has the latest available update; Ubisoft documented a related fix.
- In several unrelated games, system menus, or downloads: Investigate the PS5, its storage, software, ventilation, or hardware rather than treating this as a Mirage-only problem.
1. Update Mirage and PS5 system software
Ubisoft’s published notes include stability improvements in earlier updates, rare crash fixes in Title Update 1.1.0, and a fix in Title Update 1.1.1 for the game becoming unresponsive when relaunching a replayed mission from the recap menu. Ubisoft’s latest official Mirage release notes located here are for Title Update 1.1.1, dated December 18, 2025. These updates fix identified issues, but do not establish that every crash has been eliminated.
To check the game manually, highlight Assassin’s Creed Mirage on the PS5 home screen, press the Options button, and select Check for Update. Install any available update, then restart the game. For details on the documented fixes, see Ubisoft’s Title Update 1.1.0 notes and Title Update 1.1.1 notes.

Then check PS5 system software: Settings → System → System Software → System Software Update and Settings → Update System Software. PlayStation recommends keeping both the game and console software current when troubleshooting game errors. See PlayStation’s update guidance.
2. Fully restart the PS5; power-cycle if needed
Use the PS5 power menu to turn the console off completely, rather than leaving it in Rest Mode. Start it again and test Mirage.
If it still crashes, perform a power cycle:
- Turn off the PS5 with its power button and wait for the power indicator to stop flashing.
- Unplug the power cable.
- Wait at least five minutes.
- Reconnect the cable, restart the console, and try the game again.
PlayStation lists this five-minute unplugged step for certain game-crash errors. It is a general console troubleshooting measure, not a Mirage-specific fix. See PlayStation’s PS5 crash guidance.

A PS4 or PS5 console with a wired connection via a LAN cable is recommended. Version 4.0 of the Remote Play App on iOS and iPadOS or version 4.1 on macOS is required for games to be playable with the controller over Bluetooth.
3. Restore licenses
License restoration is most relevant if you own the digital version, the game closes at launch, a lock or entitlement message appears, or purchased content such as Valley of Memory is missing. On PS5, go to Settings → Users and Accounts → Other → Restore Licenses → Restore. This is also worth trying after changing accounts or restoring console data. PlayStation includes it in its game launch troubleshooting.
4. Reinstall the game without deleting your saves
A clean download can help if the game crashes at launch, an update repeatedly fails, or installation files may be damaged. Before deleting anything, back up important save data to PlayStation Plus cloud storage or a USB device where applicable. The installed game and its saved data are separate, but read each menu option carefully and do not choose one that deletes saved data unless you intend to and have a backup. - Highlight Assassin’s Creed Mirage on the home screen and press Options.
- Select Delete to remove the game installation. Do not select an option to delete saved data.
- For a digital copy, download it again from Game Library → Your Collection, using the account that owns or claimed it.
- For a disc copy, insert the disc and reinstall. Check that the disc is clean and undamaged, and leave it inserted to launch the game.
- Let the base game and available updates finish installing before testing. If Valley of Memory is missing, verify or reinstall its add-on as appropriate.
PlayStation recommends reinstalling for persistent launch issues; its PS5 game-start guidance covers the process. If a digital download repeatedly fails, remove the incomplete download and try downloading it again. Reinstalling can repair damaged local game files, but it cannot fix an unresolved game bug or a problem affecting the console itself.

5. Rebuild the PS5 database in Safe Mode
If updating, restarting, license restoration, and reinstalling have not helped, rebuilding the database may help with PS5 storage indexing issues. It is not a guaranteed fix for a broken patch, save-state problem, or game bug.

- Press and hold the power button. Release it after the second beep, about seven seconds after the first.
- Connect the controller with a USB cable and press the PS button.
- Select Clear Cache and Rebuild Database, then Rebuild Database.
Do not confuse Rebuild Database with Reset PS5. A reset is a destructive last resort that can erase console data. PlayStation’s game-launch guidance explains Safe Mode troubleshooting.

First install the latest available update, then test carefully without sacrificing your progress:

- Load an earlier manual save or autosave, if available. Avoid repeatedly overwriting your only known-working save.
- See whether a new game reaches the same point without crashing. A failure that follows one save but not a new game may indicate a save-specific or game-state problem; that is a possibility, not a confirmed diagnosis.
- If the crash occurs during Animus Sequence replay, confirm you have Title Update 1.1.1 or a newer available update. Ubisoft’s notes describe a related problem when returning to a replayed mission from the recap menu.
- If one mission, location, outfit, or activity reliably triggers the crash, record the exact steps and report them to Ubisoft. Do not delete all saved data as an early troubleshooting step.
7. If other PS5 games crash too
Multiple unrelated games crashing, the console shutting down instead of just closing Mirage, overheating warnings, system-menu failures, or trouble completing updates point beyond a single game. Check that the system software is current and that there is free storage. If you recently installed an expansion SSD, back up data and test without it, following PlayStation’s instructions for safe removal. Make sure the console has clear ventilation and is not overheating.
If these symptoms continue after basic troubleshooting, back up your data and contact PlayStation Support about the console. A full reset should not be the first response: it erases console data and is appropriate only after backing up and exhausting less destructive steps. When to contact support
If Mirage still crashes after an update, clean reinstall, and database rebuild—or the crash follows a specific mission or save—contact Ubisoft Support. Include the error code, when the crash occurs, how often it happens, the mission or activity, save slot, PS5 model, game edition (disc or digital), installed updates and add-ons, and whether other games are affected. This helps distinguish a repeatable game issue from a wider console fault. For multi-game or system-level symptoms, contact PlayStation Support instead.
