That milestone counts players—not confirmed copies sold. In later results, Ubisoft separately said the game recorded the second-highest Day 1 sales revenue in the franchise, behind Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.
What Ubisoft’s one-million-player milestone means
Ubisoft announced the milestone on March 20, 2025, the day Assassin’s Creed Shadows launched. Contemporary reporting described the figure as more than one million players. The announcement does not explain its counting method, so it does not establish how Ubisoft treated unique accounts, subscription access, or other forms of access. GameSpot’s March 20 report covered the announcement.
Most importantly, “players” is not interchangeable with “copies sold.” Ubisoft did not disclose a launch-day unit-sales total in the cited milestone announcement.
How the launch-day sales comparison differs
In its FY2024–25 results, published in May 2025, Ubisoft said Shadows had the second-highest Day 1 sales revenue in Assassin’s Creed franchise history, behind Valhalla. Ubisoft also said the game set a record for its Day 1 performance on the PlayStation digital store. These are revenue and storefront-performance claims, not a disclosed number of copies or players. Ubisoft’s investor-relations page hosts its financial results.

The measures answer different questions: the launch announcement reported a player milestone; the later results compared Day 1 revenue and PlayStation digital-store performance. The revenue ranking does not provide enough information to calculate how many copies sold.
Launch date and platforms
Assassin’s Creed Shadows launched March 20, 2025. Ubisoft lists PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC among its platforms, with additional access routes including Amazon Luna and Apple silicon Macs. Ubisoft also described physical Standard Editions for PS5 and Xbox Series X through participating retailers; availability can vary by market and retailer. What Ubisoft’s later updates establish
Ubisoft published Title Update 1.0.2 notes in April 2025, confirming that the game received post-launch updates. Those notes establish an update after launch, but do not by themselves indicate the game’s current support schedule. Ubisoft’s update and news page provides its published notices.
