Assassin’s Creed Shadows had reached 2 million players by March 22, 2025, two days after its release, Ubisoft announced. The publisher also said the game had surpassed the launches of Assassin’s Creed Origins and Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. That figure counts players, not copies sold.
How many players did Assassin’s Creed Shadows have after two days?
Ubisoft announced on March 22, 2025, that Assassin’s Creed Shadows had reached 2 million players since launching on March 20. GameSpot reported the announcement and quoted Ubisoft’s comparison with the earlier games. GameSpot’s report attributes both the milestone and the comparison to Ubisoft.
Did Shadows beat Origins and Odyssey at launch?
Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed account said: “Assassin’s Creed Shadows has now surpassed the launches of AC Origins and Odyssey.” The cited report does not provide the launch counts for Origins or Odyssey, nor does it detail how Ubisoft made the comparison. The claim should therefore be read as Ubisoft’s attributed launch comparison, not as a publicly documented head-to-head count.
Two million players does not mean two million copies sold
The announcement reported a player count, not a unit-sales total. Those measures are not interchangeable: for example, Shadows was available to Ubisoft+ subscribers, who could play without buying a separate copy. The milestone does not establish how many paid copies Ubisoft sold.

What Ubisoft reported later
In its FY2024–25 results, Ubisoft separately said Shadows delivered the second-highest day-one sales revenue in franchise history, behind Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, and that players had logged 160 million hours. These later figures use different measures and reporting windows from the two-day player milestone; neither supplies the missing underlying counts for the Origins and Odyssey comparison. Ubisoft lists March 20, 2025, as the release date and identifies Ubisoft Quebec as the developer. Set in feudal Japan, the action-adventure follows Naoe, a shinobi, and Yasuke, a samurai. Ubisoft Québec described the setting at launch as late Sengoku-period Japan.
