If Astra Streaming says “online” while YouTube shows “offline,” the two statuses may be reporting different parts of the process. First confirm that YouTube Live Control Room has the intended stream selected and that the encoder is sending to that event’s stream URL and key. Then check whether YouTube receives a preview. An encoder’s “online” status alone does not confirm that YouTube has a healthy feed or that a scheduled broadcast has been started.
First, identify which Astra product and setup you mean
“Astra Streaming” does not identify a single product in the information available for this issue. DataStax Astra Streaming is a serverless event-streaming service powered by Apache Pulsar, while Astra Streaming Studio is an Android video-streaming app. Neither product’s available documentation establishes that it is integrated with YouTube or explains this specific status mismatch: DataStax Astra Streaming quickstart and Astra Streaming Studio on Google Play.
Before changing settings, note the exact Astra app or service name and version, how it sends video (including the encoder or protocol, if known), and whether you selected a scheduled broadcast or an instant stream in YouTube. The steps below cover the YouTube encoder workflow; labels and options inside an unidentified Astra product may differ.
Check the YouTube event, stream URL and key
- Open YouTube Studio and go to Live Control Room. Select the intended broadcast. Check that you have not opened a different scheduled event or stream.
- Compare the stream URL and stream key configured in the encoder with the settings for that selected event. YouTube explains that the key tells the encoder where to send the feed and allows YouTube to accept it. Treat it like a password: do not post or share it. See YouTube’s live stream settings and stream-key instructions.
- If the encoder reports a startup error, YouTube recommends creating a new stream key in Live Control Room and updating the encoder with it. Do this only in the appropriate event’s settings, and keep the replacement key private. Follow YouTube’s live-stream troubleshooting steps.
- For a scheduled broadcast, wait for YouTube’s preview to appear. When the preview is ready, use YouTube’s Go live control to start the public broadcast. An incoming encoder feed or preview is not the same as the event being live to viewers. See YouTube’s instructions for creating a live stream with an encoder.
Use the preview to locate the failure

Inspect the encoder and outbound connection
- Check the encoder’s own outgoing video and audio, status messages and error log. YouTube defines an encoder as the app, program or tool used to capture and compress a live stream; its troubleshooting guidance recommends checking encoder errors and using the latest version.
- Review CPU load while streaming. If the encoder reports errors or the outgoing feed is unhealthy, update it and check whether the issue persists. YouTube also suggests considering another encoder if the feed remains unhealthy.
- If video and audio look healthy in the encoder but YouTube has no preview, test whether the connection can send data outbound. If that test identifies a connection problem, contact your ISP.
- Do not buy a cable, capture card or router as a first response to an online/offline mismatch. The official troubleshooting path starts with the selected event and key, encoder health and the outbound connection; a hardware purchase is only relevant if a specific hardware fault is identified.
If YouTube still shows offline
Record the exact status or error shown in Live Control Room, the Astra product name and version, the encoder or protocol used, and whether the event is scheduled or instant. Send those details to the support team for the product you actually use. The available information does not establish a specific Astra support route or an Astra-specific fix. If YouTube’s checks do not resolve the problem, its troubleshooting page provides a way to report a continuing issue.
