The reported exploit requires someone nearby to connect a specially crafted device; it is not described as a remote internet attack. If you own one of the listed boards, check its exact model and current BIOS against ASUS’s support page, then install only the matching update.
What CVE-2026-93495 does—and what it does not mean
PC Gamer’s October 1, 2026 report describes CVE-2026-93495 as an improper-initialization flaw that could let a physically proximate attacker read or write arbitrary memory by inserting a specially crafted device. The report does not describe remote exploitation over the internet. The distinction matters: this is a local physical-access risk, but it still warrants applying the fix if your board is on the affected list.
PC Gamer reports a CVSS score of 7.0 and characterizes the severity as high. That score could not be independently checked against the CVE record, whose page required JavaScript, and ASUS’s advisory entry was not available in the retrieved page text. ASUS’s security advisory guidance recommends keeping products updated and applying firmware and software patches.
Which ASUS motherboards are reported affected?
PC Gamer’s report identifies these ASUS boards for Intel 8th- and 9th-generation platforms. The list is model-specific; it does not establish that every ASUS Intel motherboard is affected.

Version numbers are specific to each board: do not use the WS Z390 PRO threshold for another model or assume that BIOS 2203 is suitable for it. Regional differences in impact or patch applicability are not established by the available reporting.
How to check and update your BIOS safely
ASUS documents BIOS updates through MyASUS or the official support site; the available route varies by model, and some systems may require EZ Flash. Its BIOS-update FAQ was last updated September 17, 2026. Use the instructions for your precise motherboard rather than a guide for a different ASUS model.

- Identify the motherboard. Confirm the complete model name, including any suffix such as “/H10” or “(WI-FI).”
- Check the installed BIOS version. Compare it with the model-specific reported fixed threshold above and with the current BIOS listing on the ASUS support site.
- Get the BIOS from ASUS. Open the support page for the exact board and follow the update method and instructions ASUS provides for that model. Do not install a file for a similarly named motherboard.
- Prepare for the update. Keep the computer connected to power throughout the process. If you use Windows device encryption or BitLocker, have the recovery key available; ASUS notes that a Windows BIOS update may prompt for it.
- Let the update finish. Do not force a shutdown or disconnect power while the BIOS is being updated. Follow ASUS’s on-screen prompts and model-specific steps through completion.
A BIOS update changes low-level motherboard firmware, so using the correct file and preserving power during the process are essential. ASUS documents more than one update route; the sources do not establish that a USB drive is required for these fixes.

The affected models, flaw description, fixed-version thresholds, and 7.0 score here are attributed to PC Gamer’s report. ASUS publishes a security advisory process, but its dynamically rendered advisory entry for this CVE was not available in the page text, and the CVE record could not be read in the retrieved page. That means the model list and version thresholds should be verified against ASUS’s live support page before applying firmware; it does not change the practical advice to use only the BIOS ASUS provides for the exact board.
