A Taiwanese pre-order listing reported on June 1, 2024, put the 2024 ASUS ROG Ally X at NT$25,999—about US$800 by the report’s contemporary conversion—and listed a Ryzen Z1 Extreme, 24GB of memory, 1TB storage and an 80Wh battery. ASUS later confirmed the main specifications. The price was for Taiwan, not proof of a US MSRP, and the Ally X is a substantial refresh of the original handheld rather than a new processor generation.
What the pre-order listing said—and what is verified
GizChina reported on June 1, 2024, that a Taiwanese listing offered the ROG Ally X for pre-order at NT$25,999. The report identified a Ryzen Z1 Extreme processor, 24GB of memory, a 1TB SSD and an 80Wh battery. ASUS announced the Ally X the following day and subsequently published official specifications confirming those core hardware details.
The listing report does not independently establish the retailer’s identity, whether it was an authorized ASUS seller, the order terms, any deposit requirement or a delivery date. It is evidence of a reported Taiwan pre-order listing, not evidence that units were in stock or that the same offer applied elsewhere.
How to interpret the reported price
NT$25,999 is the historical Taiwan listing price. GizChina described it as approximately US$800 at the time and compared it with an approximately US$700 price for the Ryzen Z1 Extreme version of the original Ally. That comparison suggested a roughly US$100 premium in the report, but it is not a confirmed US price comparison: currency conversion, local taxes, retailer offers, warranties and regional configurations can differ. The listing does not establish a US launch price or current price.

ASUS’s US specification page lists both 1TB and 2TB configurations, so buyers should check the exact regional model and capacity rather than assume every Ally X has the listing’s 1TB configuration. The current price and availability of either version are not established by the historical pre-order report.

What changed from the original Ally
80Wh battery capacity
The Ally X has an 80Wh battery, which ASUS describes as twice the capacity of the original Ally’s battery. ASUS says the weight rose by 11.5% rather than doubling along with the battery capacity. Capacity is not a runtime guarantee: play time varies with the game, brightness, frame-rate limit, power mode, Wi-Fi use and Windows background activity.
24GB of shared memory
The Ally X’s 24GB is onboard memory shared by Windows and the integrated GPU, not 24GB of system RAM plus dedicated video memory. ASUS describes a 16GB system/8GB GPU allocation and 7500MHz memory speed in its product announcement. The memory is not user-upgradeable. Extra capacity can give the system and GPU more room in demanding or memory-constrained games, but does not guarantee a proportional frame-rate increase in every title.

More storage and a standard SSD format
The reported 1TB capacity is confirmed in ASUS’s specifications, which identify an M.2 2280 PCIe 4.0 SSD. ASUS says the standard 2280 size makes compatibility with common replacement drives easier. A larger library may make 1TB more practical than a smaller drive, but replacing an SSD involves disassembly and preparation for Windows recovery and drivers; check ASUS support guidance and warranty terms before opening the device. Confirm the SKU, since ASUS also lists a 2TB version.
Two USB-C ports, with USB 4
The Ally X adds a second USB-C port. ASUS says the USB 4 port supports DisplayPort 1.4, FreeSync and power delivery. USB 4 also offers standards-based connectivity, but support for a dock, external GPU, display features and charging depends on the accessories and software involved.

The XG Mobile trade-off
The Ally X replaces the original Ally’s proprietary XG Mobile connection with USB 4. USB 4 is not the same interface and should not be treated as a direct substitute for ASUS’s XG Mobile connection; external-GPU compatibility depends on the enclosure or dock, graphics hardware, drivers and operating system. Owners who rely on XG Mobile have a specific reason to keep their original Ally rather than assume the accessory will transfer to the X model.

The Ally X keeps the Ryzen Z1 Extreme platform used by the higher-end original Ally, along with RDNA 3 integrated graphics, a 7-inch 1080p 120Hz touchscreen and Windows 11. The official specifications do not describe a new-generation APU. The larger battery, memory changes and revised design may improve usability and give games more memory headroom, but a faster processor or specific frame-rate gain should not be inferred from the listing. That requires measured results in particular games and settings.
The display remains an IPS-level panel rather than an OLED upgrade. Buyers prioritizing OLED image characteristics should weigh that trade-off against the Ally X’s battery, memory and storage changes.
Who benefits most from the Ally X?
- First-time Windows handheld buyers: The larger battery, 24GB shared memory, 2280 SSD format and two USB-C ports make for a more fully equipped version of the Ally design.
- Original Ally owners: The upgrade makes the most sense if battery capacity, memory headroom, storage or revised ergonomics matter more to you than retaining XG Mobile support. The same processor platform makes it a less obvious choice if your priority is a major APU-generation jump.
- XG Mobile owners: The port change is central to the decision; do not assume an existing XG Mobile setup will work as it did with the original Ally.
- Buyers focused on display quality: The 120Hz 1080p IPS-level screen remains, so the Ally X does not address a preference for OLED.
- Buyers comparing value: Compare the exact Ally X configuration and local price with discounted or refurbished original Ally stock. The NT$25,999 report is not a current or US price reference.
