The ASUS ROG GR70 puts a Ryzen 9 processor and an RTX 5070 or RTX 5060 Laptop GPU into a chassis smaller than three liters. That is an impressive amount of hardware for a desk-friendly system, but it is not a miniature tower with a desktop graphics card: the GR70 uses mobile components, has an external 330W power adapter, and offers limited upgrades beyond memory and storage. It makes most sense for buyers who value the compact footprint enough to accept those trade-offs.
What is the ROG GR70?
The ROG GR70 MiniPC is ASUS’s first gaming mini PC powered by an AMD Ryzen 9 processor. ASUS announced it on October 31, 2025, and lists it in the United States as a family of configurations rather than one fixed specification. Processor, graphics, memory, storage, price, and availability can vary by model and region; check the exact SKU before buying. ASUS’s announcement and US specifications are the best places to confirm those details.
The headline option pairs a 16-core, 32-thread Ryzen 9 9955HX3D with an RTX 5070 Laptop GPU. Other listed combinations include Ryzen 9 9955HX or Ryzen 9 8940HX processors and RTX 5070 Laptop GPU or RTX 5060 Laptop GPU graphics. ASUS associates the 8940HX configuration with the RTX 5060 Laptop GPU, and the 9955HX and 9955HX3D with the RTX 5070 Laptop GPU. Do not assume every CPU option comes with the same memory or SSD, or that a particular combination is sold in every market.

The 9955HX3D is a mobile Zen 5 processor with second-generation 3D V-Cache; ASUS advertises up to 144MB of on-chip memory for that chip. The CPUs are mobile parts, not socketed desktop Ryzen processors. Likewise, “RTX 5070” here means the RTX 5070 Laptop GPU, not the desktop card. ASUS lists it with 8GB of GDDR6 and a 100W plus 15W Dynamic Boost configuration. The available product material also associates 8GB of graphics memory with the RTX 5060 Laptop GPU option.

How small is it?
The chassis measures 282.4 × 187.7 × 56.6mm (about 11.12 × 7.39 × 2.23 inches) and weighs about 2.75kg (6.06lb). ASUS puts its volume below three liters. It is more like a broad, flat slab than a conventional upright mini tower, so plan for its footprint and leave room around the vents rather than treating it like a system that can be tucked into any tight gap.
The 2.75kg figure is for the PC, not the whole setup. It needs a separate 330W power adapter, and a portable gaming station also means bringing a display, keyboard, mouse, and cables. The GR70 can be moved more easily than a full desktop, but it is not a self-contained laptop replacement.
ROG styling and lighting are part of the design. ASUS describes quick access to the chassis, with thumbscrew access, replaceable SO-DIMM memory, and a Q-Latch mechanism for M.2 SSD installation. Keep ventilation clear and consult ASUS’s service guidance before opening or changing components.

What gaming performance should you expect?
The GR70’s most sensible target is demanding 1440p gaming, with results depending on the specific CPU/GPU configuration, game, settings, and cooling behavior. ASUS presents 4K as possible, but that should not be read as a promise of high-refresh 4K in every modern game. The mobile RTX 5070 is not interchangeable with a desktop RTX 5070 for performance comparisons, and the 8GB VRAM capacity can call for lower texture settings or other compromises in some newer titles, particularly at 4K or with ray tracing.
DLSS 4 and Multi Frame Generation can increase the frame rate shown on screen, but generated frames are not the same as frames rendered natively by the GPU. They do not eliminate input latency or guarantee the same responsiveness as a comparable native frame rate. Consider both native performance and image quality when deciding whether the GR70 meets your needs.
Be cautious with benchmarks unless they identify the exact retail model. A review sample reportedly paired the Ryzen 9 9955HX3D with an RTX 5060 Laptop GPU, a combination the reviewer said did not appear to match a retail configuration. Memory, storage, and upgrade options
ASUS lists DDR5-5600 SO-DIMM memory support, with up to 96GB using two 48GB modules. Dual-channel memory is needed for optimal performance. Included RAM varies by configuration; US listings include different capacities, so confirm what is in the specific unit rather than treating the maximum as the shipped amount.

There is room for up to two M.2 2280 NVMe SSDs, with PCIe 4.0 and PCIe 5.0 support across listed configurations. Some US models list 2TB drives, but the SSD standard and capacity depend on the SKU. Supported capacity and included storage are different things.
That access to RAM and storage is useful, but it does not make the GR70 a conventional upgradeable desktop. ASUS does not present the CPU or GPU as user-replaceable socketed components. Plan to keep the core processor and graphics hardware for the life of the system; the practical upgrade path is memory and SSD capacity.

Ports and connectivity
The GR70 has an unusually broad selection of connections for a machine this small. ASUS lists one front/side USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 port (up to 10Gbps), two USB-A 3.2 Gen 2 ports, and a combined headset jack. At the rear are one USB4 Type-C port with DisplayPort 1.4 support (up to 40Gbps), four more USB-A 3.2 Gen 2 ports, two HDMI 2.1 outputs, two DisplayPort 2.1 outputs, 2.5Gb Ethernet, a Kensington lock slot, and the power input.
ASUS advertises support for up to five simultaneous 4K displays. That is a display-connectivity ceiling, not an assurance that five screens can all run demanding games at high refresh rates. Actual support depends on the connection mix, refresh rates, display features, and GPU capabilities. It can still be valuable for a creator or productivity setup that needs several monitors.

Wireless connections include Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4. Wi-Fi 7 benefits require compatible network equipment and suitable conditions; it cannot make an internet connection faster than the broadband service feeding it. For competitive gaming, wired 2.5Gb Ethernet is the more predictable option where available.

Cooling, noise, and software
ASUS calls the three-fan, multi-heat-pipe cooling design ROG QuietFlow. The company says the CPU and GPU have separate thermal coverage and provides monitoring and cooling profiles through Armoury Crate. These are design details, not independent evidence of sustained temperatures, clock speeds, or noise in a particular room.
ASUS’s launch material claims operating noise below 4.5 dB(A), but without a clearly described measurement condition that figure should be treated as a manufacturer claim, not a dependable real-world gaming noise level. No independently measured noise or temperature results are established here. Buyers who need a quiet system should look for testing that states workload, measurement distance, room noise, and duration rather than relying on an unqualified number.
Listed US configurations use Windows 11 Home. Armoury Crate handles system profiles and monitoring, with ROG BIOS options for automatic and manual tuning; the product also supports Aura Sync lighting. ASUS advertises selected, SKU- or region-dependent Xbox Game Pass offers and a one-month Adobe Creative Cloud offer. These are promotional benefits, not permanent ownership rights: eligibility, redemption timing, region, and subscription terms apply. ASUS says selected Game Pass offers must be claimed within 30 days of activation and continue automatically unless canceled.
Price and value
ASUS’s US pages showed a starting price of $2,399 as of August 18, 2026; a separate configuration page showed $2,449. Those are dated, SKU-dependent US price signals, not a guaranteed price for the flagship 9955HX3D and RTX 5070 Laptop GPU combination or for other countries. Verify the exact processor, GPU, memory, SSD, stock, and checkout price before comparing offers.
The GR70’s price is easiest to justify when desk space, a ready-to-use premium prebuilt, and the integrated small-form-factor design matter more than raw performance per dollar. A conventional desktop can offer a desktop-class GPU and a clearer path to replacing the graphics card, usually at the cost of considerably more space. A gaming laptop may be easier to carry as a complete system, while a self-built small-form-factor desktop can offer different component choices but requires more planning and assembly. Current prices and specifications for those alternatives vary, so compare complete systems rather than processor names alone.
Who is the GR70 for?
- Consider it if you have limited desk space, want a premium prebuilt, and value strong mobile CPU and graphics hardware in a compact enclosure. Its 1440p focus, plentiful ports, multi-display support, and upgradeable RAM and storage can suit both gaming and CPU-heavy creator work.
- Look elsewhere if you want the lowest cost per frame, desktop RTX performance, a replaceable graphics card, or unrestricted 4K high-refresh gaming. It is also a poor fit if an external power brick, ROG lighting, or unverified under-load noise would frustrate you.
The GR70 is genuinely impressive in how much capable hardware it packs into less than three liters. Its compactness is also the reason for its compromises: mobile graphics, limited core-component upgrades, and a premium price. Treat it as a high-end compact gaming PC, not a smaller version of a conventional desktop, and check the precise SKU before deciding whether the space savings are worth paying for.
