The ASUS ROG GR70 is a real Windows 11 gaming mini PC, but its RTX 5070 is the laptop GPU, not the desktop RTX 5070. That distinction matters: ASUS specifies 8GB of GDDR6 and up to 100W plus 15W Dynamic Boost for the GR70’s RTX 5070 Laptop GPU. It is aimed at buyers who want a compact, ready-to-use gaming system, especially for 1440p play, rather than the most graphics performance for their money.
ASUS’s US eStore listed the GR70 from $2,399 when checked on August 18, 2026; that is a US price signal, not a universal price or a guarantee of stock. At that level, the case for buying it is compactness and turnkey convenience. A small-form-factor desktop is the stronger direction if you value a desktop graphics card, upgrades, or performance per dollar.
What is the ASUS ROG GR70?
Announced by ASUS on October 31, 2025, the ROG GR70 is a compact, prebuilt gaming desktop built around AMD Ryzen 9 HX-series mobile processors and laptop-class NVIDIA graphics. It is an AMD-based companion to ASUS’s Intel-powered ROG NUC gaming mini PCs, not a conventional office mini PC. ASUS describes the launch in its announcement.

The chassis measures 282.4 × 187.7 × 56.6 mm and weighs 2.75 kg (6.06 lb), according to ASUS’s US specifications. It saves substantial desk space compared with a tower, but it is not an all-in-one or a portable gaming laptop: you still need a display, keyboard, mouse, and audio gear, and the RTX 5070 versions use an external 330W power adapter. The compact ROG design includes an LED light bar and an ARGB side panel; ASUS’s product gallery shows its finish and placement.

Which GR70 configuration are you buying?
“ROG GR70” refers to a product family, not one fixed spec. ASUS’s US page lists multiple model numbers, and included memory and storage vary by SKU. Check the exact retail model before comparing prices or assuming the flagship processor and a 2TB drive are included.

These model-family details and power ratings are from ASUS’s specifications page. Do not assume all RTX 5070 models have the 9955HX3D, 32GB of memory, or 2TB storage.
What does “RTX 5070” mean in the GR70?
The RTX 5070-equipped GR70 uses the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 Laptop GPU. ASUS lists 8GB of GDDR6 and a power rating of up to 100W plus 15W Dynamic Boost. It is not the desktop RTX 5070: the name alone does not make their power limits, memory configuration, or performance interchangeable. See ASUS’s GR70 specifications for the installed part.

That difference affects how to interpret reviews and comparisons. Desktop RTX 5070 benchmark results are not GR70 results. ComputerBase directly compares a GR70’s RTX 5070 Laptop GPU with a desktop RTX 5070 Founders Edition in its GPU testing; use that kind of like-for-like test rather than treating the two cards as equivalent. The GR70’s GPU also has 8GB of VRAM, a consideration for demanding texture settings, high resolutions, and ray tracing.
How should you expect it to game?
Independent reviews describe the RTX 5070 Laptop GPU configuration as capable of strong WQHD (1440p) gaming, with 4K play possible in some games. Exact results depend on the title, graphics preset, ray tracing, DLSS or other upscaling, frame generation, and power mode. ComputerBase’s GR70 review includes system and gaming tests; Hardwareluxx’s review covers gaming alongside other workloads. Neither the product name nor a result from one game establishes a universal frame rate.
- 1080p: The least demanding target of the three for the GPU, and the natural choice when high frame rates matter. In competitive games, the CPU and game engine can also shape results.
- 1440p: The most sensible premium target for the RTX 5070 Laptop GPU. It uses the system’s graphics capability without making 4K performance the default expectation.
- 4K: Possible in selected games, but demanding titles may call for lower settings or DLSS and frame generation. The 8GB of VRAM is an added reason to be cautious with high-resolution textures and ray tracing.
Ray tracing should be judged together with the game’s upscaling and frame-generation options, not from the feature label alone. If comparing charts, match resolution, presets, ray tracing, upscaling, and power settings before drawing a conclusion.

Does the Ryzen 9 9955HX3D make the flagship worthwhile?
The 9955HX3D is the GR70’s flagship CPU option and includes AMD 3D V-Cache. It is most relevant to CPU-heavy games such as simulations and strategy titles, high-refresh scenarios, and multithreaded work such as rendering or compilation. In games limited mainly by graphics performance, the GPU remains the constraint; the more expensive CPU option is most valuable when the game or application can use its CPU performance.
Cooling, noise, and sustained use
The 330W adapter and the laptop-derived CPU and GPU platform make this a more power-hungry class of mini PC than a basic integrated-graphics system. Compactness alone is not evidence that it is silent, cool under load, or quieter than a gaming laptop at comparable performance. Hardwareluxx reports thermal and noise testing as well as performance results in its review; noise and temperature should be assessed by workload and test conditions, not marketing language.

Can you upgrade the memory and storage?
ASUS lists two SO-DIMM slots and support for up to 96GB using two 48GB DDR5 modules. That is the supported maximum, not the amount included in every unit; dual-channel memory is recommended. Storage uses M.2 2280 NVMe drives. ASUS lists PCIe 4.0 ×4 SSD support up to 2TB and PCIe 5.0 ×4 support in supported capacities. The listed configurations include different storage capacities, so check the exact SKU and drive specification on the specifications page.
Memory and SSD support do not make the graphics card upgradeable: the GPU is not a conventional desktop card that you can replace later. Before planning an upgrade, confirm the retail unit’s installed modules and available storage slots in its exact specification or service documentation. ASUS’s published support limits alone do not establish that a particular SKU has a free slot.

ASUS lists the following connections for the GR70:
- Front/side: one USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C port (10Gbps), one USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A port (10Gbps), a combined audio jack, power button, and lighting.
- Rear: one USB4 Type-C port with DisplayPort 1.4 (up to 40Gbps), one USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A port, two HDMI 2.1 outputs (up to 4K at 60Hz), two DisplayPort 2.1 outputs, 2.5Gb Ethernet, Kensington lock slot, and DC input.
ASUS states support for up to five displays. That maximum does not establish that every connector is driven by the same graphics processor or supports the same modes simultaneously; consult the manual for port routing and supported display combinations. Price and alternatives: what are you paying for?
ASUS’s US eStore showed a starting price of $2,399 on the specifications page checked August 18, 2026. A previously indexed RTX 5070 configuration appeared at $2,449. Those are US listing signals, not fixed or global prices; SKU, stock, and regional pricing can change. Check the ASUS buying page and exact configuration before purchase.

The GR70’s price buys a compact, finished system, not necessarily the best frame rates per dollar. The total cost also excludes a monitor and peripherals, while a laptop bundles them. Compare complete setups and the specific GPU implementation, not just the “RTX 5070” name.

- You play CPU-heavy games or use creator software that can benefit from the 9955HX3D, and the flagship SKU’s price and other specifications suit you.
Look elsewhere if
- Your priority is maximum graphics performance per dollar, a desktop GPU, or a future graphics-card upgrade.
- You need more than 8GB of graphics memory or expect demanding 4K ray-traced gaming to be the normal workload.
- You want a system that is genuinely portable, or you would benefit from a laptop’s built-in display and peripherals.
