The Asus ROG Strix OLED XG27UCDMG is a 27-inch-class gaming monitor with a 26.5-inch viewable, 3840 × 2160 QD-OLED panel, a maximum 240Hz refresh rate, and USB-C charging up to 90W. Asus announced North American availability on April 2, 2025, so it is an established product—not a newly unveiled 2026 monitor. Its main trade-off against Asus’s pricier ROG Swift PG27UCDM is connectivity: the Strix uses DisplayPort 1.4 with DSC, not DisplayPort 2.1 UHBR20.
What the XG27UCDMG offers
This is a compact 4K OLED aimed primarily at PC gamers who want high refresh rates without moving to a larger 32-inch screen. Asus describes its panel as fourth-generation QD-OLED and, on the product page, as tandem QD-OLED. The listed resolution is 3840 × 2160, the maximum refresh rate is 240Hz, and the manufacturer rates response time at 0.03ms gray-to-gray (GTG).
At 26.5 inches and 3840 × 2160, the panel works out to about 166 pixels per inch. That is a calculation from the listed size and resolution, not an independent measurement. The density can be useful for fine desktop interface elements and text as well as games. Asus says the panel improves text clarity over earlier OLED generations, but that is a manufacturer claim; independent testing would be needed to assess text rendering, HDR performance, uniformity, or input latency.

HDR brightness needs context: 1,000 cd/m² is a peak specification, not sustained brightness across the whole screen. OLED output varies with the size and duration of bright areas, content, temperature, and the display’s protective behavior. It should not be treated as a promise of a uniformly 1,000-nit image.

Why Asus calls it a 27-inch monitor when the panel is 26.5 inches
There is no discrepancy to resolve: 27 inches is the product’s marketing class, while 26.5 inches is the listed diagonal of the viewable panel. It is a conventional 27-inch-class monitor, not a smaller esports display being presented as a new size category.
QD-OLED features and burn-in precautions
OLED pixels can produce very deep blacks, but prolonged static images can create image-retention or burn-in risk. Asus’s OLED Care Pro suite is intended to mitigate that risk through maintenance and protective functions; it does not make the panel immune. The Neo Proximity Sensor detects when someone is away and can switch the screen to black, reducing the time static desktop elements remain displayed. A custom heatsink is intended to help manage panel heat.

Asus also lists OLED Anti-Flicker 2.0, which it says uses luminance compensation to reduce flicker by 20% compared with its previous-generation implementation. Uniform Brightness is intended to make brightness behavior more consistent as the size of bright content changes. These are Asus-described features and claims, not independently verified results here.
For everyday use, keep the monitor’s OLED-care functions enabled, allow its maintenance routines to run as directed, and avoid leaving bright static interfaces on screen unnecessarily. Check the XG27UCDMG manual for menu settings and panel-maintenance instructions.

Ports, laptops, consoles, and 240Hz
The DisplayPort input is version 1.4 and uses Display Stream Compression (DSC); the two HDMI inputs are 2.1. The USB-C port supports DisplayPort Alt Mode and up to 90W USB Power Delivery, which can make the monitor convenient for a laptop that supports video output over USB-C. It is not automatically a full docking station: check that it has the specific data, networking, peripheral, and charging features your setup needs.
4K at 240Hz is a demanding target. Reaching very high frame rates at native resolution depends on the GPU, game, settings, and connection configuration; some players will need to lower settings or use upscaling. The monitor can still be useful below 240 frames per second because VRR is designed to adapt refresh behavior to changing frame rates. Console owners should not expect current consoles to deliver 4K at 240Hz. HDMI 2.1 is useful for consoles and newer graphics cards, but the available modes depend on the source device, cable, chroma format, and display settings.

The 0.03ms figure is Asus’s panel response-time rating, not a measurement of total system input latency and not a guarantee of zero lag. The result a player experiences also depends on the PC or console, game, settings, and display processing.
XG27UCDMG vs. ROG Swift PG27UCDM
Both models sit in Asus’s 27-inch-class 4K/240Hz OLED territory. The key documented distinction is the DisplayPort implementation. The XG27UCDMG has DisplayPort 1.4 with DSC; Asus lists the PG27UCDM with DisplayPort 2.1a UHBR20, specified at 80Gbps full bandwidth. That is a bandwidth and connection-headroom difference—not evidence that DisplayPort 2.1 inherently makes the image look better.

The Strix is the more practical choice if it is meaningfully cheaper and its ports suit your system. Consider the PG27UCDM if you have compatible hardware and specifically want the higher-bandwidth DisplayPort connection, or if its price premium is small enough to justify that feature. Check the exact GPU output and supported display modes before paying extra for bandwidth you may not use.
Price and availability
Asus announced North American availability on April 2, 2025, with sales through its web store and Best Buy. The Asus US product page most recently surfaced a $979 e-store listing, but that is a last-observed price, not a verified live price for August 2026. Pricing, stock, retailer offers, and warranty terms can differ by date and region; check the Asus US product page and retailer listings before buying.
Who should consider it?
- Good fit: PC gamers with a powerful GPU who want 4K OLED and can make use of high refresh rates; users who value the pixel density of a 27-inch-class 4K display; and laptop owners whose USB-C port supports video and can benefit from up to 90W charging.
- Potentially poor fit: Buyers whose games or GPU rarely exceed 60–120fps at 4K, or who would get better value from a lower-refresh 4K or 1440p display; people who need strong sustained full-screen brightness in a bright room; and users who do not want to manage static-content exposure or OLED maintenance.
- Look elsewhere if: You specifically require DisplayPort 2.1 UHBR20, want a larger cinematic screen, or mainly play on a console and will not benefit from the 240Hz ceiling.
