What “preowned” means on this Best Buy listing
Best Buy describes the offer as Open Box, rather than using “preowned.” The retailer says open-box products have been opened and returned by another customer, and that the discount depends on the item’s condition. As Best Buy puts it: “Each open box item is unique, and we offer different discounts based on the product’s condition.” The exact unit, condition description, price, and local availability can therefore matter as much as the product name.
For the Excellent grade, Best Buy says the product works and looks like new, has been restored to factory settings, and includes all parts and accessories; packaging may differ from the original or be absent. That description should not be assumed to apply to Fair or Good units. The handheld runs Windows 11 with an Xbox full-screen experience. Best Buy says games can be launched from Xbox, Steam, Epic Games, PC Game Pass, and other Windows game sources. - Confirm return and exchange terms. Best Buy says its standard returns and exchange promise applies to open-box products. Read the current policy and applicable terms on the listing before purchase.
- Check the Game Pass offer separately. Best Buy advertises three months of Xbox Game Pass Premium with terms applying. Because an open-box item has a return history, verify whether the specific unit still has an unused entitlement before assigning it value.
- Compare the savings with the trade-off. Decide whether the observed discount is worthwhile for the actual grade, possible cosmetic wear, missing original packaging, and unit-specific uncertainty, compared with the listed new price.
