Model RTX5080-O16G-NOCTUA pairs an RTX 5080 with three full-size 120 mm Noctua fans and a four-slot cooler; its unusually low noise figures come from Noctua’s own controlled comparisons, not independent testing.
What is the ASUS RTX 5080 Noctua Edition?
It is ASUS’s custom-cooled version of Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 5080, identified by the exact model number RTX5080-O16G-NOCTUA. ASUS lists 16GB of GDDR7 memory, a default boost clock of 2700 MHz, and an OC mode boost clock of 2730 MHz. The card was announced on August 8, 2025. ASUS’s announcement calls it the quietest air-cooled ASUS card in its class; that is the company’s claim, not an independently established ranking.
The central distinction is the cooling system: rather than a conventional compact GPU fan arrangement, ASUS and Noctua designed a large heatsink around three 120 mm Noctua NF-A12x25 G2 fans. ASUS also lists a 0dB fan-stop feature, a phase-change thermal pad, and a physical Dual BIOS switch for Quiet and Performance modes. ASUS’s technical specification page is the reference for the model’s listed specifications.
How is the cooler designed?
Noctua describes a custom heatsink built around a vapor chamber and eleven heat pipes: seven 8 mm pipes and four 6 mm pipes. The three fans use an A-B-A arrangement, with the fan variants offset by about 50 rpm to limit acoustic interactions, according to Noctua’s technical analysis.

#1 Best Overall
- Powered by the NVIDIA Blackwell architecture and DLSS 4. System Requirements: Minimum 850W PSU with 16-pin 12V-2x6 (12VHPWR) connector required. Verify before purchasing.
- Military-grade components deliver rock-solid power and longer lifespan for ultimate durability. Compatibility: 348mm (13.7") length, 3.6 slots, 4.3 lbs. Confirm case clearance and slot spacing. GPU bracket included.
- Protective PCB coating helps protect against short circuits caused by moisture, dust, or debris
- 3.6-slot design with massive fin array optimized for airflow from three Axial-tech fans
- Phase-change GPU thermal pad helps ensure optimal thermal performance and longevity, outlasting traditional thermal paste for graphics cards under heavy loads
The aim is not just to move heat away from the GPU, but to do so with less fan noise by using a larger cooling surface and large fans. The physical scale is the trade-off: this design needs far more room than many standard graphics cards.
How quiet is the ASUS RTX 5080 Noctua Edition?
Noctua reports 21.4 dB(A) for the Noctua Edition with automatic fan settings in its own comparison tests. It says that result was 14.5 dB(A) quieter than the ROG Astral RTX 5080 in the same reported comparison, with GPU core temperatures up to 6°C lower than the tested ASUS TUF Gaming and ROG Astral counterparts.

- Powered by the NVIDIA Blackwell architecture and DLSS 4. System Requirements: Minimum 850W PSU with 16-pin 12V-2x6 (12VHPWR) connector required. Verify before purchasing. OC mode: 2685 MHz/ Default mode: 2655 MHz (Boost Clock)
- SFF-Ready enthusiast GeForce card compatible with small-form-factor builds
- Axial-tech fans feature a smaller fan hub that facilitates longer blades and a barrier ring that increases downward air pressure
- Vapor chamber ensures efficient heat transfer for lower GPU temps
- Phase-change GPU thermal pad helps ensure optimal heat transfer, lowering GPU temperatures for enhanced performance and reliability
Those figures are manufacturer-published internal results, not measurements from an independent lab or a promise of what every owner will hear. Noctua says it compared the cards at a 360W power target using FurMark thermal stress tests at 4K. Noise and temperature in games or other systems can differ with workload, case airflow, ambient temperature, fan settings, and the rest of the PC.
What happened at a fixed low fan speed?
Noctua also reports a test with all three cards’ fans forced to 500 RPM. In that setup, it measured all three below 10 dB(A); the Noctua Edition kept VRAM more than 10°C cooler and its GPU 13°C below the GPUs’ thermal limit, according to the same analysis. These results describe that controlled test condition and should not be read as a general gaming benchmark.

- Quad-fan design boosts air flow and pressure by up to 20%. Compatibility: 357mm (14.1") length, 3.8 slots, 6.3 lbs. Confirm case clearance and slot spacing. GPU bracket included.
- Patented vapor chamber with milled heatspreader for lower GPU temperatures OC mode: 2790 MHz/ Default mode: 2760 MHz (Boost Clock)
- Phase-change GPU thermal pad ensures optimal heat transfer, lowering GPU temperatures for enhanced performance and reliability
- 3.8-slot design: massive heatsink and fin array optimized for airflow from the four Axial-tech fans
Is it quieter than the ASUS TUF or ROG Astral?
Noctua’s comparison indicates lower noise than the tested ROG Astral at the stated automatic-fan setting, and up to 6°C lower GPU core temperatures relative to the TUF Gaming and ROG Astral cards it tested. It does not establish that the Noctua Edition will be quieter across every game, fan profile, or PC build. A useful direct comparison should match workload and fan settings, then consider GPU and VRAM temperatures alongside physical size, power setup, price, stock, and regional warranty support.
How big is the RTX 5080 Noctua Edition?
ASUS lists the card at 385 × 151 × 80 mm (15.16 × 5.94 × 3.15 inches) and four slots thick. Before buying, check the case’s stated GPU clearance, the space available across expansion slots, and whether the power cable can be routed without pressing against a side panel. A card can fit by length and still be blocked by nearby components or awkward cable clearance.

What power supply does it need?
ASUS recommends an 850W power supply and lists one 16-pin power connector. The company says its wattage recommendation assumes a system with both the GPU and CPU fully overclocked. It is a recommendation for that specified configuration, not proof that every owner must replace an existing PSU. Check the PSU’s capacity, available connector and cable arrangement, and the demands of the full system before deciding.
What should buyers verify before choosing it?
- Fit: Compare the 385 mm length, 151 mm height, 80 mm thickness, and four-slot requirement with the case and installed components.
- Power: Confirm the PSU setup can support the complete PC and the card’s 16-pin connector; use ASUS’s 850W recommendation in the context of its fully overclocked GPU-and-CPU assumption.
- Noise evidence: Treat the quoted dB(A) and temperature figures as Noctua’s results under its stated FurMark, 4K, 360W, or fixed-500-RPM conditions—not as independent game testing.
- Local availability: Stock and specifications can vary by market, and ASUS cautions that product details may change. Check the current listing and regional support information before purchase.
