Verdict: The ASUS TUF Gaming A15 is a strong-value 1080p gaming laptop when configured with a Ryzen 7 processor, an RTX 4060, dual-channel memory and the 90Wh battery. Its performance and upgradeability are compelling, but the exact screen, GPU power limit, battery behavior and even processor class vary sharply between A15 generations. This review uses the 2023 FA507NV reference configuration with Ryzen 7 7735HS, GeForce RTX 4060, 16GB DDR5 and a 15.6-inch 1080p/144Hz display; confirm the complete specification before buying.
Which ASUS TUF Gaming A15 is this?
“A15” is a product family, not one fixed laptop. ASUS lists 2023 models with Ryzen 5 7535HS, Ryzen 7 7735HS and Ryzen 9 7940HS processors, plus RTX 4050, RTX 4060 and RTX 4070 graphics. The 2024 family adds Ryzen 7 8845HS and Ryzen 9 8945H systems. Regional retailers also sell older FA506 machines and lower-cost variants such as FA506NCR. Check ASUS’s 2023 specifications and 2024 specifications, not just the “A15” name.

The RTX 4060 reference is the sensible middle ground. ASUS lists up to 140W for relevant 2023 RTX 4060 configurations, but that is a manufacturer maximum, not a guarantee for every FA507NV. PCWorld’s review found the 2023 RTX 4060 A15 a strong 1080p performer, while Notebookcheck’s 2024 FA507UV review found similarly powerful graphics and long battery life in that specific sample.
Gaming performance: the RTX 4060 target
An RTX 4060 A15 is designed primarily for high-quality 1080p gaming. It has 8GB of VRAM, giving it more headroom than 6GB RTX 4050 models and many 4GB RTX 3050 versions as textures and ray-traced effects become heavier. DLSS can raise frame rates in supported games, but ray tracing still requires sensible settings.

AAA games and ray tracing
Use the built-in 1080p/144Hz panel as the reference workload. Rasterized modern games should make good use of the screen’s refresh rate; demanding ray-traced titles may need DLSS, reduced RT quality or a balanced preset. Do not apply one review’s frame-rate numbers to every A15: CPU, GPU wattage, cooling mode, memory layout and display mode all affect results.
Esports and external monitors
Competitive games are a natural fit for the 144Hz panel. For maximum GPU performance, Armoury Crate’s GPU mode, Optimus or Advanced Optimus behavior matters. A genuine MUX path can reduce display-routing overhead, while an external monitor may connect through HDMI or USB-C DisplayPort depending on the SKU. Verify those outputs in ASUS’s port specifications.
Is RTX 4070 worth it?
The 2023 family reaches RTX 4070, also listed by ASUS at up to 140W in relevant configurations. Pay the premium only when the price gap is modest and you need higher settings or an external 1440p display. An RTX 4060 with 8GB VRAM is usually the better value than an expensive 4070 paired with a weak screen, single-channel RAM or a small battery.
Choosing the Ryzen processor
Ryzen 5 7535HS
This six-core chip is adequate for gaming, schoolwork and everyday applications. It becomes less attractive for heavy compiling, video work or extensive multitasking when the price approaches Ryzen 7 models.

Ryzen 7 7735HS
The eight-core Zen 3+ processor is an efficient value partner for an RTX 4060. It is not as fast as newer Zen 4 parts in CPU-heavy workloads, but the gaming difference can be small when the GPU is the limit.

Ryzen 9 7940HS, 8845HS and 8945H
These newer Zen 4-based options improve CPU performance and include integrated Radeon graphics. Ryzen 8000 models also include an AI NPU; that feature is not a major gaming advantage and should not justify a large premium by itself.
The Ryzen 7 7435HS exception
Some A15 listings use Ryzen 7 7435HS systems without an integrated GPU. Confirm the exact implementation before buying: relying on the discrete RTX GPU for more tasks can reduce unplugged endurance and limit graphics-switching flexibility. User reports identify this as a recurring concern, but they are anecdotal rather than controlled battery tests.
Display: 144Hz is not a quality rating
The common A15 panel is 1920×1080 at 144Hz. That refresh rate helps motion clarity, but it does not tell you brightness, color coverage, response time or ghosting. The exact panel must be checked in the retailer specification or a review of that model.

- Gaming: A fast 1080p panel is suitable when response time and adaptive sync are decent.
- Creative work: Do not assume color accuracy. Some FA507 samples tested by LaptopMedia had improved color performance, while other regions use different panels.
- Adaptive sync: G-SYNC or Adaptive-Sync availability can depend on GPU mode and model code.
- Outdoor use: Brightness in nits was not established for this reference SKU, so verify it before treating the screen as suitable for bright rooms.
Calling the display “excellent” solely because it is 144Hz is a mistake. If color-critical photo or video work matters, budget for a calibrated external monitor.
Cooling, sustained performance and noise
The FA507 chassis generally sustains gaming performance effectively, but it does so with audible fans. LaptopMedia measured approximately 111W of sustained GPU power after 30 minutes on a 2023 RTX 4060 sample. ProfesionalReview recorded GPU temperatures in the low-80°C range during stress testing. Those are laboratory results for specific units, not universal limits.

What to expect in use
- Idle and light work: Fan behavior is usually much calmer than during gaming, though profiles and firmware matter.
- Combined gaming load: Performance mode raises fan speed substantially; a stand or rear lift can improve intake airflow.
- Older FA506 designs: Notebookcheck’s FA506 testing found hotter behavior than newer FA507 systems, so do not mix generations.
- Ergonomics: Keyboard-center temperatures matter more than a cool palm rest when judging long sessions.
High noise is the normal trade-off for maintaining laptop GPU wattage. The relevant question is whether the performance gain is worth the acoustic cost for your room and headphones.
Battery life and charging
Modern A15 FA507 models commonly carry a 90Wh battery. ASUS advertises charging to 50% in 30 minutes under its stated conditions on the 2024 product page, but that is a manufacturer claim rather than an independent result.

Screen refresh rate, Armoury Crate profile, GPU mode, brightness, charge limit and whether the processor has an integrated GPU all matter. Gaming on battery should be treated as a short, performance-reduced session, not an alternative to AC power. Do not transfer a web-browsing result to gaming endurance.
Build, keyboard and everyday ergonomics
The TUF line emphasizes functional, durability-oriented construction rather than luxury materials. Expect a practical chassis, a gaming keyboard with RGB implementation that varies by model, a serviceable touchpad and a webcam and speakers that are adequate for calls and casual media rather than class-leading. Hinge stability, lid flex, deck flex, speaker bass and webcam quality should be checked on the exact unit.
ASUS’s durability positioning is not a guarantee against drops, hinge failure or multi-year reliability. Judge the machine by observed construction and warranty terms in your country, not by “military-grade” wording alone.

Ports and connectivity
Typical A15 layouts include USB-A, USB-C, HDMI, RJ-45 Ethernet and a headset jack. USB-C DisplayPort support is listed for relevant 2023 models; selected 2024 configurations add USB4 and power-delivery features. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth generations, USB speeds, charging support and external-display limits vary by code, so use the official technical sheet for the unit you are ordering.

ASUS promotes the 2024 A15 as fully upgradeable, with DDR5-5600 support and up to 2TB PCIe 4.0 storage. “Up to” describes the platform, not the memory and SSD installed in a particular box.
FA507R and FA507X service guides show access to the removable bottom cover, fans, memory, storage, battery and wireless card. These guides apply to those families only; they do not prove identical layouts for every FA506 or FA507 variant. Before opening the laptop, identify the screw lengths, release clips, battery connector and any SSD heat shield, and check whether opening the cover affects warranty in your market.
Most useful upgrades
- Move from 8GB single-channel memory to 16GB dual-channel memory when the model supports a second module.
- Add a larger PCIe 4.0 M.2 SSD when 512GB fills quickly with modern games.
- Match DDR5 speed, module capacity, M.2 size and thermal clearance to the exact model.
Software, warranty and ownership
Armoury Crate controls performance profiles, fan behavior, GPU operating modes and battery charge limits. Keep BIOS, chipset and graphics drivers current through ASUS support, but change one setting at a time when troubleshooting heat or battery drain.
Warranty length, keyboard layout, charger, Windows edition and return rights are geographic and seller-specific. Tom’s Hardware recorded a one-year ASUS warranty on an older review unit; that should not be treated as the current policy. Check the seller’s written terms and ASUS’s A15 support portal.

Alternatives to compare at the same price
Compare Lenovo LOQ, Acer Nitro, HP Victus and ASUS TUF A16 using the same checklist: GPU model and wattage, RAM layout, screen brightness and gamut, battery capacity, weight, warranty and upgrade access. A TUF A16 may offer a 16:10 display or a larger panel; ROG Strix and Zephyrus systems generally cost more in exchange for better displays, speakers, materials or portability. Brand reputation alone is not a useful comparison.
Buying advice
- Buy now: the exact A15 has an RTX 4060 or better, 16GB dual-channel RAM, a 90Wh battery and a confirmed acceptable panel at a competitive price.
- Buy on sale: RTX 4050 models or 8GB/512GB systems that leave room for inexpensive upgrades.
- Skip unless heavily discounted: RTX 3050 models, dim low-gamut panels and Ryzen 7 7435HS units when you need long unplugged runtime.
- Choose an alternative: when a Lenovo LOQ, Nitro, Victus or TUF A16 offers a brighter screen, higher GPU wattage, larger battery or stronger warranty at equivalent cost.
