Atari announced a partnership with blockchain gaming network B3 on March 14, 2025, to bring multiple Atari games onchain, with Pong named as the first title. That is an announced plan, not confirmation that a blockchain version of Pong is publicly playable: the announcement coverage gives no launch date, game link, complete title list, or details about wallets, tokens, or pricing.
What Atari and B3 announced
The companies described a collaboration to bring multiple Atari titles onto blockchain infrastructure provided by B3. Pong is the first named game in the initiative; the available announcement does not identify the rest of the slate. VentureBeat reported the announcement on March 14, 2025.
The distinction matters: a partnership announcement describes an intention and a relationship, not necessarily a finished product. Based on the public details in that coverage, there is no confirmed playable release to download or visit.

What “onchain” could mean for Pong
“Onchain” can describe several different designs. A conventional game might simply accept cryptocurrency for a purchase. A blockchain-enabled game might instead use a chain to represent collectibles or record selected achievements, tournament results, or player progression. In a more fully onchain game, substantially more of the game’s logic and state would be handled through blockchain infrastructure.

The Atari-B3 announcement does not say which parts of Pong would use a blockchain. It therefore does not establish that every match, score, or input would be recorded onchain—or that the game would be decentralized. The term describes the planned technical direction, not a detailed feature specification.
What B3 brings to the partnership
B3 describes itself as an open gaming ecosystem built around a Layer 3 network that settles on Base. Its materials describe customized GameChains and tools for developers, including embedded accounts, leaderboards, achievements, tournaments, token gating, notifications, and payments. B3’s ecosystem documentation and whitepaper explain those offerings.
In plain terms, B3 is pitching shared infrastructure that could let game studios add blockchain-linked accounts and features without building every component from scratch. B3 says its chain-abstraction and embedded-account approach is intended to reduce friction, such as requiring users to manage network switching themselves. “Layer 3,” however, is an architectural description—not proof that a particular game will be faster, cheaper, safer, or more enjoyable than a conventional version.

Those platform capabilities are possibilities, not confirmed features of Atari’s Pong. B3’s developer quickstart describes its SDK and integration path, but it is not a player-facing game page.
What players still need to know
The announcement leaves the practical details open. It does not provide:
- a confirmed release date, playable build, or public test;
- the complete list of Atari games planned for the partnership;
- supported platforms or geographic availability;
- a price, monetization model, or statement that the game will be free;
- confirmation that players need a wallet, cryptocurrency, NFT, or transaction fee;
- details of any collectibles, transfer rights, or what a player would legally own.
Features B3 supports in its ecosystem—such as wallet-linked identity, leaderboards, tournaments, achievements, or token-gated content—could be relevant to a game like Pong. Atari has not specified which, if any, will be included. A blockchain token associated with a game would not by itself give its holder copyright, trademark rights, or ownership of Atari’s underlying intellectual property.

If a game later requires a wallet or transactions, players should check the official Atari or B3 launch page, verify the domain and any contract address from an official source, and read the transaction prompts before approving them. Wallet setup does not eliminate phishing, account-recovery, or smart-contract risks; token use can also expose players to fees and price volatility.

B3 documents $B3 as its ecosystem token and describes uses including governance, staking, and ecosystem activity. Its tokenomics documentation lists a total supply of 100 billion tokens and 18 decimals; its token details page lists the contract address as 0xB3B32F9f8827D4634fE7d973Fa1034Ec9fdDB3B3.
None of that establishes a requirement or benefit for Atari players. The partnership announcement does not say that buying $B3 is necessary to play the planned games, announce a Pong-linked token reward, or present the partnership as an investment opportunity. B3’s token information is not a substitute for a confirmed game launch or its eventual terms.

Why the partnership could make sense—and what would prove its value
As analysis, Atari’s recognizable catalogue could give B3 a familiar entry point for players who do not follow blockchain games. For B3, an established arcade brand could help demonstrate its tools in a simple, legible game. Pong is mechanically spare, which makes it a plausible setting to test account-linked scores, tournaments, or persistent achievements without those features being mistaken for a complex game system.
That is a strategic rationale, not a confirmed list of commercial terms or product features. Whether blockchain adds anything worthwhile will depend on the finished implementation: Is there an actual playable game? Are blockchain features optional? Do persistent records or transferable items offer value beyond ordinary leaderboards? Are ownership and licensing terms clear? What happens to player access and assets if a service or gamechain shuts down? Until Atari and B3 answer those questions, the partnership’s practical value to players cannot be judged.

The B3 deal is part of a broader Atari interest in Web3, but it should not be conflated with older licensing partnerships. Atari announced Atari X in 2022 as a way to unify its blockchain-related activities, and its licensing material continues to describe Web3 among its business areas.

Atari has also documented earlier work with partners including The Sandbox and Animoca Brands. Those arrangements involved Atari properties and, in some cases, titles such as Asteroids, Centipede, Missile Command, and Pong. They were separate deals; their game lists, licensing terms, or features do not confirm what is included in the B3 collaboration. What to watch for next
The meaningful next update would be an official Atari or B3 product page with a playable build or launch date, supported platforms, a complete game list, and clear terms for accounts, fees, digital items, privacy, support, and geographic eligibility. Until then, the accurate description is that Atari and B3 announced a planned onchain-games collaboration beginning with Pong—not that a blockchain Pong game is available to play.
