For the standard Augur encounter in Elden Ring Nightreign, keep moving through Maris’s summoned hazards and have the party attack together when she stops to build sleep energy. That coordinated interruption is the key opportunity to reach the airborne boss. Everdark Sovereign Augur is a separate enhanced encounter with a later Storm Ruler mechanic; the instructions for it are distinct.
How to beat Maris, Fathom of Night
Guide accounts describe standard Maris as spending much of the fight airborne, making her difficult for melee fighters to reach. While she is aloft, summoned hazards and sleep buildup put pressure on the party. Use ranged attacks when available, but a ranged-only team is not required: the important team action is to converge when she begins channeling sleep.

Jellyfish
Summoned jellyfish track players and explode after a delay. Keep moving and evade the blast. Clear a jellyfish if it threatens the group, but avoid letting the add pull everyone’s attention away from Maris for too long.
Ground tentacles
Tentacles rise from the arena floor and slam when players approach their strike area. Watch the ground and dodge sideways or forward out of the zone rather than closing in through the attack.

Water wave
When Maris sends a wave across the arena, keep enough distance to read its approach. GameSpot’s guide recommends dodging into the regular wave as it arrives; rolling backward can leave you in its path.
Sleep buildup: the party’s interrupt window
When Maris stops and begins building sleep energy, move in and attack together. The goal is to interrupt her before the sleep meter fills. If it completes, affected players are immobilized and exposed to follow-up attacks. Treat the channel as a call for the whole party to act, not an invitation for one player to keep attacking from range.

Large shining bubble
GameSpot reports that a larger shining bubble appears after Maris falls below half health. Destroy it before it reaches the ground to prevent its explosion and additional sleep buildup.
Positioning and party priorities
- Keep pressure from range when Maris is airborne. Ranged damage is useful because melee fighters may struggle to reach her, but it is a tactical advantage, not a required party composition.
- Keep moving between openings. Tracking jellyfish, tentacle slams and the wave all punish standing still or reacting late.
- Save coordinated aggression for the sleep channel. When Maris stops to channel, the party’s shared attack can interrupt the buildup and create a safer damage window.
Guides differ in how they characterize the later fight: one emphasizes Maris’s airborne pressure and summons, while another describes increased aggression and additional attacks. Rather than relying on a fixed phase label, watch for the specific hazards—especially the larger bubble reported below half health.

Everdark Sovereign Augur: a separate encounter
Do not apply the standard-fight plan unchanged to Everdark Sovereign Augur. PC Gamer’s July 31, 2025 guide describes an initial regular Maris fight followed by a much larger Maris phase. In that later phase, the guide reports that Storm Ruler is needed to damage the boss.
- After the first phase, choose the character-specific legendary weapon with the Storm Ruler skill, as described in the guide.
- Use Storm Ruler as the main damage tool against the larger Maris. Charge it when the opening allows and aim when the boss is closer, following the guide’s recommendations.
- When spawned orbs appear, use lighter attacks to destroy them. The guide reports that destroying the orbs can stun the boss and create an opportunity to attack.
These Storm Ruler and orb instructions apply to the Everdark version, not the standard Augur encounter.
