You can run a 24/7 YouTube channel by sending a continuous video feed from an encoder—software on a computer, optional dedicated hardware, or a cloud service—to a YouTube Live stream. For prerecorded programming, the encoder or service must keep the video playing and reconnect if the feed stops. Before you start, enable live streaming, confirm your channel is eligible, and clear the rights to every video and audio track.
What you need for a continuous YouTube stream
- A verified YouTube channel with live streaming enabled and no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days.
- A person aged 16 or older to operate the stream.
- Video you own, have licensed, or are otherwise authorized to broadcast continuously.
- An encoder or cloud service that can send the video feed to YouTube Live. YouTube supports software and standalone hardware encoders; hardware is optional.
- A plan to monitor interruptions and, if needed, save a replay separately.
YouTube says first-time live-stream activation can take up to 24 hours. Enable it ahead of your planned launch rather than expecting to start immediately. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility and setup guidance.
Choose how to keep the channel live
The key difference between approaches is what must stay running and who handles recovery. YouTube supports encoder-based streaming and lists Gyre as a cloud option for 24/7 prerecorded video; that listing confirms a product category, not guaranteed uptime or an endorsement.
| Approach | What must stay available | What to plan for |
|---|---|---|
| StreamNeo — #1 for this use case | The cloud service runs the YouTube stream; your computer can be off. | Upload a recording or playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It offers one flat price per slot for video up to 4K 60fps as uploaded, with a free first day. |
| Software encoder on a local computer | The computer, encoder, and internet connection. | You manage playback, connection monitoring, and recovery. YouTube’s encoder guidance does not prescribe a specific looping setup for a particular software encoder. |
| Dedicated hardware encoder | The encoder and its internet connection. | YouTube supports standalone encoders, but no particular model or minimum specification is established here. |
| Another cloud continuous-stream service | The provider’s service, rather than a dedicated PC at home. | Check current pricing, format support, restart behavior, recording features, and rights workflow directly with the provider. |
For a multi-platform relay, Restream’s instructions explain how to add a YouTube channel, but that alone does not establish support for unattended 24/7 prerecorded looping. See Restream’s YouTube setup page before treating it as a continuous-loop solution.

Set up a 24/7 prerecorded YouTube stream
- Check channel eligibility. Verify the channel and confirm it has no live-streaming restriction in the prior 90 days. The streamer must be at least 16. First-time activation may take up to 24 hours, according to YouTube’s getting-started guidance.
- Choose an encoder or cloud service. For a local setup, install and configure encoder software on a computer that can remain on. You may instead use standalone encoder hardware or a cloud service designed for continuous prerecorded streams. YouTube’s encoder setup guide lists supported encoder options, including Gyre as a cloud-based 24/7 option. Evaluate a provider’s current capabilities and terms independently.
- Create the YouTube broadcast. In YouTube Studio, open Go Live and create a stream. YouTube’s interface can change, so follow the current on-screen flow if labels differ from the guide.
- Connect the encoder. Copy the stream URL and stream key from Studio into the corresponding encoder fields. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it or share it with anyone who should not be able to send video to your stream. Start the encoder so it sends the feed to YouTube.
- Verify the feed and prepare recovery. Check that Studio receives the picture and sound you expect before treating the channel as live. YouTube’s connection documentation does not promise uninterrupted delivery. Arrange a way to notice when the feed stops and restore it; test that process rather than assuming any setup is failure-proof.
- Plan the replay separately. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not assume a longer continuous broadcast will have a complete replay. If retaining the programming matters, record it separately or divide it into shorter broadcasts, then confirm the current archive workflow in Studio.
Rights and YouTube’s live-stream checks
Use only material you own, have licensed, or are otherwise authorized to broadcast. YouTube states that live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted material in another live broadcast. A match can result in a placeholder replacing the stream, an interruption, or termination. Even licensed content may be interrupted if the rights holder has not allowlisted your channel through Content ID. Read YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams and confirm any required allowlisting with the rights holder before going live.
A continuous loop does not itself establish that you have the rights to rebroadcast its contents. Check the rights for music, video, game footage, and other third-party material in the specific content you plan to use.

What to expect from replays and stream records
YouTube’s stated automatic-archive threshold is streams under 12 hours. That is not a promise that a longer 24/7 broadcast will be saved as one complete replay. If an archive is important, use a separate recording or schedule shorter sessions and verify the available replay in Studio after each broadcast. The YouTube Live Streaming API documentation explains the distinction between broadcasts and streams for creators building an API-based workflow.
Common problems and practical fixes
- Live streaming is not available yet: first-time activation may take up to 24 hours. Check verification and channel eligibility, then allow the activation window to finish.
- YouTube does not receive the encoder feed: confirm the stream URL and key were copied into the correct fields in the encoder, then check that the encoder is actively sending. If needed, re-copy the credentials from the current Studio stream.
- The stream stops while unattended: YouTube’s encoder guidance does not guarantee uninterrupted service. Check whether the computer, encoder, or connection stopped; restore the feed and establish a monitoring and recovery procedure for the next run.
- A rights warning interrupts the broadcast: identify the matched content and verify that you have the necessary rights. If licensed material is being interrupted, contact the rights holder about Content ID allowlisting for your channel.
- No full replay appears after a long broadcast: YouTube documents automatic archives for streams under 12 hours, not a complete archive for longer streams. Use separate recording or shorter broadcasts when replay retention is necessary.
Or let it run in the cloud
