Pocket Gamer’s Avalar tier list, updated September 6, 2025, places A’lzena, Kivaris, Aurora, Lythienne, D’Lynx, Lednaigrael, Radolf, E’teresa, Catherine, and William in S tier. Use it as a dated guide—not a verified 2026 meta ranking. A strong squad still depends on hero levels, elemental matchups, and skills that work together.
How to use this Avalar tier list
A squad can include up to four characters. Pocket Gamer’s list weighs heroes by their usefulness and investment value, but its rankings are the guide’s assessments, not independently tested performance results. It also notes that some Epic heroes can be useful alongside Legendary heroes, so rarity alone is not a reliable reason to choose one character over another.
Build around the stage and the heroes you can develop: compare each character’s role, elemental matchup, skill synergy, and investment level. Hero level and elemental advantage or disadvantage can affect stage performance, so a higher-ranked hero is not automatically the right fit for every encounter.

What the tiers mean for team building
S tier: strong candidates to build around
The guide’s S-tier examples show why team fit matters. It describes A’lzena as a Wind Mage with area damage and an ability that reduces Wind resistance. Kivaris is presented as a Lightning Lancer suited to burst melee damage, while Lednaigrael, a Lightning Mage, is described as a partner who works well with Kivaris. These are the guide’s character assessments, not a guarantee that the combination will outperform others in every stage.
A tier: useful specialists and support
Cissy is an Ice Swordsman who can apply Chill, but the guide says she benefits from Freeze support. E’edithymia is identified as a Wind healer. Sejoan, a Fire Archer, is said to pair well with Fire resistance reduction. Consider these heroes when their role or synergy addresses what your squad lacks rather than choosing only by tier.

B tier: situational value
The guide describes Kaleb as a Lightning damage dealer who can generate energy and reduce attack, Winora as a team healer whose effectiveness varies with enemy count, and Brad as a Warrior who shields the team. Their listed tier does not rule them out; their utility may suit a particular encounter or team need.
C tier: avoid prioritizing scarce investment
Pocket Gamer advises against prioritizing its C-tier heroes because, in its account of the game, resetting investment is not viable. Treat that as advice tied to the guide’s September 2025 version of the game, rather than an independently confirmed statement about every later update.

A practical way to choose your four heroes
- Check the stage’s elemental matchup. The guide says elemental advantages and disadvantages affect performance, so consider whether your available heroes can exploit a useful matchup.
- Cover the jobs your squad needs. Weigh damage, healing, shielding, and other utility against the encounter instead of filling all four slots with the highest tier alone.
- Look for skills that reinforce one another. The guide’s examples include Kivaris with Lednaigrael, Cissy with Freeze support, and Sejoan with Fire resistance reduction. Treat them as possible synergies, not mandatory lineups.
- Account for levels and investment. A hero’s level matters in stage performance. If investment is difficult to recover, consider the guide’s tier placement and your longer-term team plan before spending resources.
How current is the list?
The detailed hero rankings come from Pocket Gamer’s tier list, last updated September 6, 2025: Pocket Gamer’s Avalar tier list. The official Google Play listing reports an update date of July 13, 2026, and Apple’s listing includes version 04.92.00 dated September 17; neither listing verifies a later hero ranking. Check in-game changes and newer character balance information before treating these tiers as definitive for a current account.
Avalar: Shadow War is presented in its official store listing as a team-based action RPG with distinct character skills and elemental powers; heroes can be strengthened through skills, talents, and equipment. The game listing describes Android and Windows availability: Google Play: Avalar: Shadow War. The publisher’s guidance is to “Build the ultimate team by strategically selecting characters that complement each other.”
