Spoilers: Dawntreader is a branching side quest in Dawnshore. You can report on the missing expedition and finish quickly, or pursue the Splinter of Eothas to reach Oracle Sargamis’s statue experiment and its consequential choices.
Where to start Dawntreader
You can begin the quest in any of three ways: speak with Secgwin and Kauia near the Eothasian Temple on Pilgrim’s Path, meet Ofryc near the Aedyran embassy in Paradis, or enter the temple directly. Ofryc is the easiest starting point if you are already in Paradis. (GameSpot; Gamer Guides)
Investigate the temple and expedition

Enter the Eothasian Temple and explore its connected passages. To open the first gate, apply electricity to its mechanism. An Electric Lily Seed works; an electricity spell or an electric-damage weapon can also do the job. (Gamer Guides; Windows Central)

Follow the expedition’s trail through the cave and investigate what happened. The members you find are dead, except for Caedmon; take Gjeda’s Journal. (GameSpot)

Choose how far to pursue the quest. If you only want to report on the expedition, return the journal to Ofryc and complete the quest without pursuing the Splinter of Eothas or Sargamis’s statue. To see that optional branch, keep exploring for the relic and follow the trail to Sargamis. (GameSpot)
Decide what to do about Sargamis and the statue
Consider the outcomes before committing: the reported choices can determine whether Sargamis lives, whether you fight him, whether the statue is preserved, and which rewards you receive. There is no universally best role-playing choice.

Collect the reported rewards and finish
Delver’s Caution is reported as the quest-completion ring, with +1 Dexterity and +15% Parkour Speed. Both Gamer Guides and Windows Central report those effects. (Gamer Guides; Windows Central)
For the optional Oracle branch, Windows Central reports XP and Last Light of Day for defeating Sargamis. After resolving the statue and Voice dialogue available on your route, return to Ofryc and Caedmon in Paradis to close out the expedition’s story. (Windows Central; GameSpot)
