Spoilers for the Dawntreader side quest. Giving Oracle Sargamis the Splinter of Eothas unlocks more choices; it does not commit you to letting his experiment continue. After you place the relic in the statue and pull the lever, the attempt fails and you decide what happens next. Choose persuasion to keep Sargamis alive, or fight him if you want to stop him directly. Walkthroughs report that Last Light of Day can be obtained on either route.
What happens if you give Sargamis the relic?
In the Dawnshore side quest Dawntreader, you can speak with Sargamis after finding the Splinter of Eothas. If you hand it over, you must place it in the statue and pull the lever. The first attempt fails, opening a further choice about the experiment and Sargamis. You can also take the relic to the Aedyran Embassy instead, bypassing this optional interaction.
The outcomes below are reported by walkthroughs, rather than confirmed by official quest documentation. See Game8’s choice guide, its Dawntreader walkthrough, PC Gamer’s guide, and Windows Central’s statue guide.
Which choice should you make?
| Your priority | Route | Reported outcome |
|---|---|---|
| Keep Sargamis alive | After the failed experiment, persuade him to stop. | He abandons the experiment and can later give you Last Light of Day in his study. You need an eligible dialogue option. |
| Stop the experiment and accept Sargamis’s death | Persuade him to sacrifice himself. | Sargamis dies; guides report that you can loot Last Light of Day. |
| End the situation through combat | Refuse the relic interaction or attack Sargamis. | A fight begins; guides report that the sword can be looted from him. |
| Avoid the statue experiment | Take the Splinter of Eothas to the Aedyran Embassy. | This bypasses Sargamis’s optional interaction. Game8 reports more XP on this route, but says it forfeits the Sargamis weapon and Voice opportunity. |
| Destroy the statue | Overload its Essence Generators. | Windows Central describes this as a way to destroy the statue and trigger a fight if Sargamis has not already been dealt with. Exact conditions may depend on your quest state. |
How to get the sword without killing Sargamis
Choose the persuasion option that makes Sargamis stop the experiment rather than sacrifice himself. Game8 and PC Gamer report that he can later give you Last Light of Day in his study. Whether the relevant dialogue appears can depend on your character’s background or attributes; the guides do not establish a universal requirement that applies to every build.

What happens if you offer your soul?
Do not choose to offer your own soul expecting a normal quest resolution. Windows Central reports a game over, while Game8 describes the player character dying and respawning at an earlier point. The precise presentation differs between the guides, but both warn that this is not a safe way to complete the choice.
Does this choice affect later content?
Walkthroughs associate the Sargamis and statue routes with later Voice or statue-related content, but they do not establish the full scope of those consequences. Treat the embassy handoff as the route that skips Sargamis’s optional experiment; if you want to explore the statue encounter and its follow-up, give him the relic and decide after the failed activation.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Is giving him the relic the best choice?
There is no single best outcome independent of what you want. Give Sargamis the relic if you want the additional encounter and the chance to persuade him to stop while he lives. Choose the embassy route to bypass his experiment, or use combat if you want to end the confrontation directly. The guides disagree in how they frame the best outcome, and their secondary XP details are not consistent enough to make a definitive XP-based recommendation.
