There is no single reliable monthly price for running a 24/7 YouTube channel on AWS Elemental MediaLive in India. The bill depends on the AWS Region, channel class, inputs, outputs, enabled add-ons and runtime. AWS’s published examples cited here use US East (N. Virginia), not Mumbai, so they are not India quotes. To estimate your own cost, configure the actual workflow in AWS Pricing Calculator, then confirm GST against the payer’s AWS billing entity and tax profile.
How MediaLive charges for a 24/7 channel
MediaLive cost is built from the channel’s configured inputs, outputs and enabled add-on features. AWS says charges continue while the channel is running even if an input is not receiving content or an output is not producing it. Idle-resource and data-transfer charges may also apply, depending on the workflow. See AWS Elemental MediaLive pricing.
- Inputs: The input count and type, codec, resolution and bitrate affect cost. An attached, running input can be billed while inactive or not receiving content; input switching can affect how many inputs are charged. AWS lists supported input types in its MediaLive FAQs.
- Outputs: Each configured output contributes cost. Rates depend on codec, bitrate, resolution and frame rate. AWS warns that if frame rate is left to initialize from the source, the greater-than-30-fps pricing tier may be provisioned.
- Channel class: A single-pipeline channel uses one processing pipeline in one Availability Zone. A standard channel uses two pipelines in different Availability Zones for additional resiliency; the classes have different rates.
- Add-ons: Advanced audio, audio normalization and motion graphics can add per-channel charges.
- Runtime and idle resources: A continuous channel accumulates charges for its running hours. AWS says unused push inputs may incur idle-resource charges, while pulled inputs do not incur that idle input charge.

AWS advertises savings of up to 75% versus on-demand for inputs, outputs and add-ons with a 12-month commitment. This is a maximum advertised saving, not a guaranteed discount for your configuration. AWS says reserved pricing may be used for channels running more than 180 hours a month; reservations are charged for every hour of each month in the commitment and apply to matching component reservations. Why the Mumbai Region and channel design matter
Choose the AWS Region you actually plan to use in the calculator. Mumbai may suit some India workflows, but the cited AWS pricing examples do not establish a Mumbai rate. Do not relabel the N. Virginia figures as an India estimate.

Then select a channel class based on the resilience you need: standard has two pipelines in separate Availability Zones; single-pipeline has one pipeline in one Availability Zone. Compare their current regional prices alongside the reliability difference, rather than selecting a class on price alone.
Specify every input and output, including codec, resolution, bitrate and frame rate. A multi-output ladder is not priced as one generic stream: each configured output contributes cost. Also include any required add-ons and account for continuously running inputs, even during periods without active content.

GST on an AWS MediaLive bill in India
AWS’s India tax guidance, last updated March 2026, says AWS India charges GST on its cloud-service sales to customers in India. It states that Delhi customers are charged 9% CGST plus 9% SGST, while customers in other states are charged 18% IGST. Read the current AWS Tax Help for India for the applicable billing guidance.
The same guidance distinguishes AWS India sales from purchases involving Amazon Web Services, Inc. located outside India. It describes 18% IGST for non-business OIDAR customers and directs registered business customers to update their GSTIN and tax settings. Do not infer the tax-inclusive bill from your physical location alone: verify the contracting/billing entity, payer tax profile and invoice treatment.

As a simple illustration only when 18% GST applies to the taxable AWS subtotal, multiply that subtotal by 1.18. The stated Delhi AWS India rates—9% CGST plus 9% SGST—also sum to 18%. A registered business’s cash payment and ultimate tax cost may differ if it can claim a tax credit under applicable rules; the AWS guidance does not determine an individual customer’s eligibility.

- Describe the source: Identify the device or software, input protocol, codec, resolution and bitrate. If the source is a camera or production feed, check that its encoder can deliver a supported MediaLive input; an HDMI video encoder may be relevant when conversion to a supported RTMP input is needed, but compatibility depends on the specific setup.
- Define the output ladder: List every output and its codec, resolution, bitrate and explicit frame rate.
- Choose Region and channel class: Select Mumbai or the Region you will actually deploy in, and choose single-pipeline or standard based on your resilience requirement.
- Add features and runtime: Include necessary add-ons, expected run hours and any idle push inputs.
- Use AWS Pricing Calculator: Estimate MediaLive using that specific configuration. Label the result as MediaLive-only.
- Account for the rest of the workflow: Add any required packaging, origin, storage, CDN or internet-transfer services separately. AWS’s deployment guide illustrates MediaLive, MediaPackage and CloudFront as distinct components. Viewer count and bitrate can substantially affect delivery costs, so a MediaLive subtotal is not the full workflow bill.
- Check GST for the actual payer: Apply the treatment shown for the billing entity and payer tax settings. A GST-registered business should ensure its GSTIN and registered address are updated in the AWS tax settings and confirm invoice and tax-credit treatment with its finance or tax adviser where needed.
A useful estimate names the Region and configuration, distinguishes on-demand from commitment pricing, says whether it covers MediaLive alone or the whole workflow, and states whether GST is included. Do not present a single exact INR total until the Mumbai estimate, billing basis and payer-specific tax treatment have been checked.
