Nimble Streamer is the more relevant of these two for creating a live stream from looping video files. Its Server Playlist feature can build an outgoing stream from files and live sources, but Softvelum says it requires the Live Transcoder package/license. AWS Elemental MediaPackage does a different job: it packages an upstream live feed for playback endpoints. The sources reviewed do not document MediaPackage as a file-playlist scheduler or a standalone way to create and publish a YouTube loop.
What each product does
Nimble Streamer: playlist playout
Softvelum documents Nimble’s Server Playlist feature as assembling an outgoing live stream from local files, live sources, or both, with loop controls. The Nimble Playout documentation describes playlist blocks and repeat settings such as MaxIterations and TotalDuration. The Playout Wizard walks through defining a stream, adding file paths or live sources, arranging blocks, and optionally configuring loop behavior. Exact settings depend on the schedule you want and should be checked in the current documentation.
The key qualification is licensing: Softvelum says Server Playlist requires the Live Transcoder package/license. Include that requirement when estimating cost or comparing deployment options; Nimble Streamer by itself should not be treated as proof that playlist playout is included.
AWS Elemental MediaPackage: packaging and origination
MediaPackage is a just-in-time packaging and origination service. An upstream encoder supplies live content, and MediaPackage packages it for downstream playback requests. AWS describes that role in its MediaPackage overview and its documentation for the v1 live workflow and v2 live workflow. Those are delivery workflows, not documented instructions for scheduling local video files into a YouTube broadcast.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Side-by-side comparison
| Question | Nimble Streamer | AWS Elemental MediaPackage |
|---|---|---|
| Primary documented job | Generate an outgoing live stream using playlist blocks made from files and/or live sources. | Package an upstream live feed for downstream playback endpoints. |
| Documented file-loop workflow | Yes: Server Playlist includes loop controls; requires the Live Transcoder package/license. | Not documented in the sources reviewed as a local-file playlist scheduler. |
| Input and output evidence | Softvelum’s protocol matrix lists RTMP as an input and output protocol. That does not establish that every configuration is accepted by YouTube. | For v2, supported live inputs include HLS and CMAF over HTTPS; endpoint types include TS/HLS and CMAF/HLS or DASH. AWS says the source must contain at least one video track and input segments must not be encrypted. |
| Version or configuration to check | Playlist blocks, repeat behavior, package/license, and chosen output protocol. | Whether you are implementing v1 or v2; the workflows and supported details differ. |
| Price evidence | Softvelum’s product page listed USD 50 per month at the research date, 2026-10-03 UTC. Verify the current price and what that charge includes, especially the Live Transcoder package/license. | No comparable price is established here; AWS costs depend on the services and configuration used. |
Which one fits a YouTube loop?
For the specific task of turning uploaded or local recordings into a repeating live output, Nimble’s documented playlist function is the closer fit. Confirm the required Live Transcoder package/license, then check the output protocol and configuration against current YouTube requirements before relying on it for a continuous broadcast.
MediaPackage may be appropriate as part of a larger AWS delivery architecture where an upstream encoder already supplies a live feed and downstream playback endpoints need packaging. Its documented purpose does not make it a substitute for the playlist/loop step. AWS lists live, VOD, live-to-VOD, and catch-up TV among MediaPackage use cases in its overview.

Protocol and version details that matter
Nimble and YouTube ingest
Softvelum’s protocol matrix, marked as updated August 2026, lists RTMP for input and output. Protocol support is not the same as a verified YouTube setup recipe: Softvelum also says on its product page that YouTube recommends Nimble among approved encoders, but that is the vendor’s statement. The sources here do not establish current YouTube account eligibility, stream-key steps, accepted settings for a particular account, or policies for continuous repeated content. Verify those details against current YouTube documentation before configuring a production stream.
MediaPackage v1 and v2 are not interchangeable recipes
AWS’s v2 live-flow documentation describes HLS input sent with AWS Signature Version 4 authorization and endpoints delivering TS or CMAF. The v2 supported-input documentation lists HLS and CMAF over HTTPS; supported endpoint types include TS/HLS and CMAF/HLS or DASH. Do not copy v2 assumptions into a v1 deployment: consult the documentation for the version and endpoints you actually configure.

MediaPackage limits are not YouTube-loop recommendations
AWS’s current MediaPackage live quotas documentation lists a maximum content age of 336 hours (14 days) for time-shifted viewing and a maximum time-shifted manifest length of 24 hours. These are MediaPackage limits for time-shifted behavior, not evidence that a YouTube loop should run for either duration or that MediaPackage can create one. Confirm applicable quotas for the AWS region and account you plan to use in AWS Service Quotas.
A practical decision path
- If you need a playlist made from files: evaluate Nimble Server Playlist first, and verify that the Live Transcoder package/license is included in your plan or deployment.
- If you already have an upstream live encoder and need packaging for playback: evaluate MediaPackage for that downstream role, selecting the appropriate v1 or v2 workflow.
- If YouTube is the destination: independently confirm its current ingest protocol, account eligibility, stream-key process, and rules for continuous or repeated content. RTMP support in a vendor protocol matrix does not answer those YouTube-specific questions.
- Estimate the whole setup: account for the playout/encoder component, any required license, cloud infrastructure, and operational work. MediaPackage is not a replacement for the component that creates the file-based live feed.
