The AYANEO NEXT 2 pairs a 9.06-inch OLED screen with a reported weight of 3.14 pounds, making it an unusually large Windows gaming handheld. AYANEO lists Ryzen AI Max processor options, a 116Wh battery and refresh rates up to 165Hz. The specifications point to a portable PC built around a big display and substantial hardware—not a lightweight device. Its preorder prices were reported in February 2026, but its current availability and price are not verified.
How big is the AYANEO NEXT 2?
AYANEO specifies a 9.06-inch custom OLED with a native landscape resolution of 2400 × 1504. That is the defining feature of the NEXT 2: a screen considerably larger than the compact displays typical of handheld PCs, in a system that remains a self-contained Windows device.

The company’s later official release page lists selectable refresh rates of 60Hz, 120Hz, 144Hz and 165Hz. Its earlier unveiling page also lists 90Hz, so the two official descriptions do not agree on the full set of modes. The later release page gives a global brightness claim of 1155 nits, while the earlier page says 1100 nits. Treat these as manufacturer specifications, not independently measured results; check the final product listing for confirmed display modes and brightness.
AYANEO also claims 100% DCI-P3 color coverage and 5280Hz PWM dimming. Those, too, are vendor-stated figures rather than independent measurements.

How heavy is it, and what does that mean for portability?
Tom’s Hardware reports a weight of 3.14 pounds. Combined with the 9.06-inch screen, that makes the NEXT 2 a bulky handheld to carry or hold compared with smaller gaming handhelds. AYANEO describes its grips as ergonomic, but that is a manufacturer characterization; there are no independent comfort findings or dimensions established here.
The internal battery is listed at 116Wh (also rendered as 116.1Wh in AYANEO’s release material). Tom’s Hardware notes that airline rules typically allow lithium batteries up to 100Wh without approval, with larger batteries requiring special clearance. That is general travel context, not a determination for every airline or route: check the carrier and applicable rules before flying with the device.
What processor and controls does it have?
AYANEO’s later release page lists two processor configurations:
- Ryzen AI Max+ 395: 16 CPU cores and 32 threads, boost clocks up to 5.1GHz, and integrated Radeon 8060S graphics.
- Ryzen AI Max 385: an additional configuration named by AYANEO; the cited release page does not provide the same detailed CPU and graphics breakdown for this option.
The listed components do not establish real-world game frame rates, sustained performance, temperatures or battery runtime. No independent performance or battery testing is available here, so those outcomes should not be inferred from the processor or battery specifications.

The device also has front-facing stereo speakers and a vibration motor developed with Gulikit Technologies. AYASpace, the company’s management platform, is described as handling game launching, controls, performance tuning, virtual input and task management. These are announced features, not independently tested findings.

AYANEO specifies two full-function USB4 ports with 40Gbps data transfer and DisplayPort 1.4 output, Micro SD expansion, a 3.5mm audio jack, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.4. USB4 and DisplayPort output could support connection to a compatible display or dock, while the Micro SD slot provides an expansion option. Specific accessory compatibility has not been tested.
How much does the AYANEO NEXT 2 cost, and is it available?
Tom’s Hardware reported historical preorder prices on February 10, 2026, from $1,799 for a 32GB RAM/1TB SSD configuration to $4,299 for a 128GB RAM/2TB SSD configuration. These are reported preorder prices, not current offers.
PC Gamer reported on March 25, 2026, that AYANEO had temporarily suspended new preorders after storage costs rose enough to make the planned selling price unsustainable. The report said production for existing backers would continue and that the company might consider resuming sales if storage prices returned to more reasonable levels. The current sales status as of October 8, 2026, is not verified, so neither open preorders nor an ongoing suspension should be assumed.
Who is the NEXT 2 for?
The NEXT 2’s appeal is its combination of a large, high-resolution OLED, high listed refresh-rate options and full Windows handheld form factor. Its trade-off is equally clear: a reported 3.14-pound weight and a 116Wh battery make it a substantial device to carry, and its historical preorder prices were high. It may suit someone prioritizing a large handheld screen and powerful components over compactness, but the available specifications cannot establish how well particular games run or how long the battery lasts.
Tom’s Hardware identifies the GPD Win 5 as another Strix Halo handheld and notes that it uses a detachable external battery. That is a useful distinction to investigate when comparing designs, but the available information does not support a tested head-to-head performance ranking.
