The AYANEO Pocket S officially launched on April 26, 2024, as a premium Android gaming handheld built around Qualcomm’s Snapdragon G3x Gen 2 Gaming Platform. It paired that gaming-focused chip with active cooling, Hall-effect controls and a choice of 1080p or 1440p screens. The launch is now historical: its $399 and $439 starting prices were limited pre-sale offers in 2024, not verified prices for 2026.
What launched—and when?
AYANEO positioned the Pocket S as its flagship Android handheld and the first device marketed around Qualcomm’s Snapdragon G3x Gen 2. The handheld appeared with Qualcomm at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona from February 26–29, 2024, but that showcase was not its retail launch. AYANEO announced the official launch on April 26, 2024. AYANEO’s MWC announcement and launch announcement establish that distinction.
AYANEO described the Pocket S as the first handheld to use the platform. Treat “first” as the company’s launch positioning, rather than an independently defined industry ranking.

Why the Snapdragon G3x Gen 2 mattered
The G3x Gen 2 was positioned specifically for handheld gaming, rather than simply as a phone processor placed in a controller shell. AYANEO lists a 4nm platform with an eight-core Kryo CPU clocked up to 3.36GHz and an Adreno A32 GPU clocked up to 1GHz. It also lists hardware-accelerated ray tracing. These are platform specifications and marketing claims, not a guarantee that every game uses those capabilities or performs identically.

AYANEO said the chip shares process and architectural characteristics with Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. That lineage may make broad Android compatibility familiar, but it does not make the two platforms interchangeable in every workload. Device power limits, cooling, firmware, graphics drivers and the game or emulator all affect results. The G3x Gen 2’s practical proposition was a gaming-focused platform paired with active cooling for sustained workloads—not an assurance that it beats every Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 device.
AYANEO’s performance claims—and what they establish
AYANEO claimed up to 15W of sustained performance, more than 30% higher CPU performance than the previous generation, and roughly twice the GPU performance. Its product page identifies the CPU/GPU comparison as Qualcomm data using Snapdragon G3x Gen 1 as the reference. These comparisons should not be recast as independently measured gains over every Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 handheld or as results every owner will see. On its product page, AYANEO lists AnTuTu V10.2.4 at 1,690,726 and 3DMark Wild Life Extreme at 4,382. The company calls these reference figures and cautions that results vary with the test environment and software version. They are manufacturer-published scores, not independent lab results or a direct measure of performance in a particular game. AYANEO also promoted native 1440p gaming at 60fps in selected demanding Android games; that is a claim about selected titles and settings, not a general frame-rate guarantee. For buyers, the meaningful question is how a particular game holds its performance over time, at the chosen resolution and power mode. Android games may render below the panel’s native resolution, and emulator results depend on the emulator, graphics backend, driver, game, settings and firmware. A benchmark score alone cannot settle those questions.
Cooling and performance modes
The Pocket S combines a vapor-chamber thermal plate with an active fan. AYANEO lists a thermal-plate area exceeding 5,000mm² on its product page and gives a more specific figure of over 5,180mm² in its launch announcement; that announcement also claims more than 7,053mm² of heat-sink fin area. The body is 14mm thick. These figures describe the design, not measured temperatures, noise levels or proof that the device never throttles.
AYANEO provides three performance modes, switchable with a dedicated Turbo button or through AYASpace quick settings:

AYANEO does not give a universal battery-runtime figure for each mode on the cited product page, so a specific number of hours should not be inferred from the capacity alone.

AYANEO lists the configurations as 12GB + 128GB, 16GB + 512GB and 16GB + 1TB. Its product page discusses support for a newer Wi-Fi protocol and notes that some functionality requires a compatible router, while its specification summary lists Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.3. Because the wording is not a clear universal model-level Wi-Fi 7 specification, check the exact configuration and current listing rather than assuming every unit has the same capability. Choosing between the 1080p and 1440p screens

Both are 6-inch IPS displays. AYANEO lists 400-nit brightness and display color-gamut claims on its product page. The 1440p panel can make text and interface elements look finer, and may benefit some scaling use cases, but it does not mean every game renders at 1440p. Some games use a lower internal resolution or dynamic resolution. For a handheld, 1080p can be the more sensible balance if sustained frame rates and battery efficiency matter more than maximum pixel density.

Games, emulation and software
The Pocket S is an Android handheld suited to native Android games, retro emulation, cloud gaming and remote play through services such as Steam Link. Older and 2D systems are generally lighter workloads, while GameCube, Wii and PlayStation 2 performance should be judged by emulator and game rather than assumed from the processor name. Switch emulation is especially variable; compatibility and performance depend on the title, emulator, drivers and configuration. Windows games through translation layers are enthusiast experimentation, not the device’s core supported use.
Controller support is another practical variable: some Android games work well with physical controls, while others may need button mapping or touchscreen input. AYANEO’s AYASpace game database can organize games users download or import; AYANEO says it does not supply game resources. The listed operating system is Android 13. The available specification does not establish a later Android upgrade, security-patch schedule or long-term firmware commitment.

Launch price and shipping were 2024 figures
At launch, AYANEO advertised limited-quantity pre-sale starting prices of $399 for the 1080p version and $439 for the 1440p Advance Edition. It planned to begin shipping the 1440p model in mid-May 2024 and the 1080p version at the end of June 2024. These were launch-era prices and estimates, not verified current prices, stock or shipping terms. Before buying in 2026, check the seller for the exact screen and storage configuration, availability, regional shipping, tax, warranty and return terms. The Pocket S’s premium construction, cooling and controls help explain its positioning, but do not settle its value against cheaper Android handhelds or Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 rivals. A secondary review cautions that the performance gap over the Odin 2 may not be dramatic outside GPU-intensive workloads; that is reviewer context, not a universal benchmark comparison.
