AYANEO temporarily suspended sales and preorders for its high-end NEXT 2 Windows handheld in March 2026, saying memory and storage costs had risen so sharply that the device’s total cost was approaching twice its original selling price. That was not an announcement that AYANEO had abandoned Windows handhelds: the company continued listing other Windows models, and later said the NEXT 2 was officially shipping.
The latest status is more complicated than “canceled.” AYANEO’s store listed the NEXT 2 at $2,999 and marked it Sold Out when checked on August 18, 2026.
What AYANEO stopped selling
The affected product was the AYANEO NEXT 2, not every AYANEO Windows gaming handheld. The suspension concerned NEXT 2 sales and preorders associated with its campaign.

AYANEO originally announced the NEXT 2 on February 8, 2026, with a starting price of $1,799 and planned shipments in June. The company described it as a premium, unusually large Windows handheld built around AMD’s Ryzen AI Max+ 395 processor, a 9.06-inch OLED display with 2400×1504 resolution, and a 116.1Wh battery. Other advertised features included dual-fan cooling, TMR joysticks, Hall-effect linear triggers with dual-mode locks, dual touchpads, and four rear buttons. AYANEO’s announcement contains the original specifications and launch plans.

Why AYANEO called the product unsustainable
In a March 23 update, AYANEO said memory and storage costs had increased so much that the product’s total cost was approaching twice the original selling price. Continuing to sell the NEXT 2 at its original price would therefore have meant absorbing an increasingly large loss.
AYANEO said storage prices were already elevated when it announced the device, but that it proceeded with production and preorders because supporters had been waiting for the NEXT 2. It later concluded that the economics no longer worked and suspended sales. The company said sales could resume if storage prices returned to more reasonable levels.
Some coverage connected the component-cost increase to demand from AI-related hardware production. That may be part of the broader market explanation, but AYANEO’s concrete statement was narrower: memory, SSD, and other component costs made the original pricing unworkable. The available information does not establish that AI demand alone caused the situation.
The NEXT 2’s specifications also help explain why it was particularly exposed to component inflation. This is an inference rather than a separate admission from AYANEO: a device combining a high-end processor, substantial memory and storage configurations, a large OLED panel, and a 116.1Wh battery has more expensive components at risk when supply costs move sharply.
AYANEO’s Indiegogo update is the primary source for the suspension and cost explanation.
Was the NEXT 2 canceled?
Not in the straightforward, permanent sense. The timeline shows a suspension at the original pricing followed by a later shipping update:
- February 8, 2026: AYANEO announced the NEXT 2 at $1,799, with June shipments planned.
- March 23, 2026: AYANEO suspended sales and preorders, citing unsustainable memory and storage costs.
- July 3, 2026: AYANEO said the NEXT 2 was officially shipping in a later product update.
- August 18, 2026: AYANEO’s official store listed the NEXT 2 at $2,999 and marked it sold out.
The most accurate description is: AYANEO suspended the NEXT 2 at its original pricing, then brought it back into its lineup under changed pricing and availability conditions. “Sold out” also matters. A product being listed and described as shipping does not mean that a buyer can order one today.

What happened to existing customers and backers?
AYANEO said the sales suspension would not affect after-sales service for NEXT 2 customers. It said it would prepare sufficient spare parts and provide long-term service and maintenance.
That statement should not be treated as a universal promise about every refund, delivery, replacement, or warranty scenario. Those outcomes can differ depending on whether someone:
- Already received a NEXT 2 and needs repair or warranty service.
- Backed or preordered the device but had not received it.
- Placed a completed retail order.
- Only registered interest without completing a purchase.
Anyone affected should check the specific campaign or order terms and keep invoices, campaign records, serial numbers, and written support correspondence. AYANEO’s broader 2026 service plan says that if a repair takes longer than three months from the date the customer ships the unit, the company intends to provide a new replacement or allow an upgrade by paying the difference. That is a general service-plan statement, not an automatic NEXT 2-specific remedy. AYANEO’s service-plan announcement provides the broader policy context.

There is no evidence that AYANEO’s NEXT 2 decision represents an exit from Windows gaming handhelds. The company’s official store continued to list several other Windows devices, including the AYANEO 3, AYANEO 2S, AYANEO Flip models, and KONKR FIT.

These figures can change, and a listing does not guarantee stock. They are also not like-for-like replacements: the NEXT 2’s large OLED display, Ryzen AI Max+ 395 processor, and unusually large battery place it in a different class. AYANEO continues to describe Windows handhelds as part of its broader product strategy alongside Android handhelds and mini PCs. Its strategy overview supports that distinction.

If you specifically want the NEXT 2
Check the official store for stock, the exact configuration, the final checkout price, shipping geography, warranty route, and return terms. Do not treat the $2,999 listing as a confirmed transaction price for every configuration, especially while the page is marked sold out.
Waiting may make sense if the NEXT 2 is the only device that meets your requirements and you are comfortable with uncertain supply and pricing. AYANEO said sales might resume if storage costs improved, but it did not provide a guaranteed timetable.

If you need a Windows handheld now
Compare actual availability and support terms across AYANEO’s current lineup rather than assuming the NEXT 2 is available. The AYANEO 3, AYANEO 3 with the 8840U, AYANEO 2S, Flip models, and KONKR FIT differ substantially in performance, display, form factor, and stock status.
A cheaper model should not be described as an equivalent substitute for the NEXT 2. The KONKR FIT, for example, is a more cost-oriented option, while the Flip devices prioritize unusual form factors. Buyers should select based on the experience they need, not only the processor name.
Remember the Windows and travel trade-offs
The NEXT 2 is a Windows gaming PC in handheld form, not a closed console. Buyers should expect desktop UI, launcher management, Windows updates, drivers, and power-profile tuning. AYASpace can add game-management and hardware-control features, but it does not make Windows identical to SteamOS or a console interface.

The 116.1Wh battery is also unusually large. Anyone planning to fly with the device should check the current rules of the relevant airline, airport, and jurisdiction before treating it as travel-friendly. Do not assume that a universal airline policy applies everywhere.
Finally, crowdfunding and retail purchases can carry different refund, delivery, and warranty arrangements. Use AYANEO’s official store or the specific official campaign, and be cautious with unauthorized third-party sellers. The company has previously warned buyers to use official channels.
The bigger lesson
The NEXT 2 episode is a warning about the economics of niche, high-specification hardware. A small manufacturer can announce a product at one price, begin production despite unfavorable component costs, and then face a severe margin problem if memory and storage prices move further before fulfillment.
It does not prove that the entire Windows handheld market is unsustainable, and it does not establish that AYANEO’s business is failing. The evidence supports a narrower conclusion: the company said the original NEXT 2 pricing stopped being viable, temporarily suspended sales, later reported that the device was shipping, and listed it at a much higher price while showing it as sold out.
