For sending a radio-style stream directly to YouTube, RadioBOSS is the more direct fit: its manual documents RTMP output to YouTube using the stream URL and key supplied by YouTube. AzuraCast is a self-hosted web-radio station platform; its documented RadioBOSS connection sends audio to an AzuraCast station over Icecast, rather than showing a direct YouTube video-output workflow. Use both if you want YouTube output alongside AzuraCast’s separate station-management features.

Can RadioBOSS stream to YouTube?
Yes. The RadioBOSS manual documents streaming over RTMP to services such as YouTube. You need YouTube’s server URL and stream key, then configure a custom encoder in RadioBOSS. YouTube supplies those destination details and controls its own scheduling and Live Control Room actions.
Configure RadioBOSS
- In RadioBOSS, open Settings → Options → Broadcast → Custom Encoders.
- Add a custom encoder and choose RTMP.
- Enter the RTMP server URL and stream key copied from YouTube Studio.
- Specify a background image or video for the output, as required by the RadioBOSS procedure.
- Install the plugin if RadioBOSS prompts you to do so.
- Add a broadcast encoder that uses
[rtmp]and the custom encoder you configured.

Set up the YouTube stream
- Enable live streaming for your YouTube account if you have not already done so. YouTube says first-time activation can take up to 24 hours.
- In YouTube Studio, create or select a stream and copy its server URL and stream key into the RadioBOSS encoder.
- Start the encoder. For a scheduled stream, use YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room scheduling workflow and follow its go-live prompt when it is time to begin.
YouTube supports streaming through an encoder for more advanced productions and external audio/video equipment. Scheduled streams can be promoted, and viewers can receive reminders. How to connect RadioBOSS to AzuraCast
This connection makes RadioBOSS an audio broadcaster to an AzuraCast station; it is not the same as configuring RadioBOSS’s separate RTMP output to YouTube.

- In AzuraCast, open the station’s Streamers/DJs page and obtain the connection credentials.
- In RadioBOSS, add a broadcast encoder and choose Icecast.
- Enter the AzuraCast connection details and start the broadcast.
AzuraCast recommends Icecast for DJ connections because Liquidsoap sits between those connections and the station output. Its guide states that RadioBOSS live broadcasting is available in Standard and Advanced editions, not Express. See AzuraCast’s DJ connection guide.
Which workflow should you choose?
- Choose RadioBOSS direct to YouTube when YouTube Live is the destination and you want local radio automation with a documented RTMP path.
- Choose AzuraCast with RadioBOSS when you also need a separate internet-radio station with station playlists, DJ accounts, Web DJ, public pages or relays. Add YouTube as a distinct output using the documented RadioBOSS RTMP workflow if that is also a destination; simultaneous-output limits and reliability are not established by the cited guides.
- Choose AzuraCast on its own for the station-management role when its documented features fit. The documentation reviewed here does not establish direct YouTube video output from AzuraCast.
YouTube rules and operational details to check
- Copyright: You remain responsible for having rights to the music, recordings, images and other material in a livestream. A radio playlist that you can legally play elsewhere is not automatically cleared for YouTube streaming.
- Reused content and monetization: YouTube’s monetization decisions are separate from whether an encoder can connect. Review current YouTube Partner Program policies for reused or repetitive content before building a channel around looping material.
- Stream duration and archives: YouTube Help says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived under the guidance accessed October 3, 2026. Check the current YouTube guidance for longer streams and account-specific behavior. YouTube Help on live streams
- Scheduling: A scheduled event is a YouTube-side setup. Starting an encoder and completing any required Live Control Room action are separate steps.
Common problems and fixes
- YouTube does not receive the broadcast: Recheck that the RTMP URL and stream key were copied from the intended YouTube stream and entered in the RadioBOSS custom encoder; confirm the encoder is running.
- RadioBOSS does not offer the expected live-broadcast feature: If you are connecting to AzuraCast, the guide specifies Standard or Advanced editions, not Express.
- The AzuraCast station does not receive RadioBOSS: Confirm that the RadioBOSS encoder is set to Icecast and that the credentials match the station’s Streamers/DJs page.
- The stream is connected but not live to viewers: Check the Live Control Room for a required go-live action, especially for a scheduled broadcast.
- First-time YouTube activation is pending: YouTube says live-stream activation can take up to 24 hours; wait for eligibility and setup to complete before troubleshooting RadioBOSS settings.
