Baldur’s Gate 3 supports cross-play, but its pre-release Patch 8 stress test is over. Larian opened the test on 28 January 2025 and released Patch 8 on 15 April 2025. The patch added cross-play across PC, Mac, Xbox and PlayStation 5, along with Photo Mode and 12 subclasses.
Can you play Baldur’s Gate 3 with friends on another platform?
Yes. Patch 8 introduced cross-play and cross-platform progression for PC, Mac, Xbox and PlayStation 5. Players can create or join Cross-Play lobbies and use the Larian Network to add friends and invite them.
Patch 8 was the game’s final major content patch. Larian said it would not add further new content, while leaving room for minor bug-fix updates. Its 15 April 2025 announcement described it as the final major game patch: Larian’s Patch 8 announcement.
Is the cross-play stress test still open?
No. The temporary test took place before Patch 8’s full release. Larian announced on 28 January 2025 that it was live for Xbox, PlayStation and PC; it is not a current sign-up opportunity. The test announcement outlined lobby setup and platform-specific access: Larian’s stress-test announcement.

How access worked during the test
- Xbox: Participants accessed the test through Xbox Insider Hub.
- PC and PlayStation: Selected participants received access details by email.
These were routes for the 2025 test, not steps needed to use the released cross-play feature.
What to know about cross-play and mods
For a modded session, players need compatible mods and a matching setup. The game’s Mod Verification prompt is the practical guide to whether everyone can join. Larian’s 2025 stress-test instructions said the PC host could use fewer than 100 mods; that was historical test guidance, not a confirmed current limit. Check the game’s current prompt rather than relying on that old threshold.

Cross-play updates after Patch 8
Larian continued to issue maintenance updates after Patch 8. On 20 May 2025, Hotfix #32 (version 4.1.1.6848561) fixed an Xbox cross-play crash that could occur when suspending the game during a region transition. On 3 August 2026, Larian announced an update across platforms to support continued cross-play and listed these versions:
