If Baldur’s Gate 3 won’t let you Long Rest, first check the message on screen and where you are: the game can deliberately block resting in certain locations or story states. If you can reach camp but the supply selector fails, or resting works but a quest does not advance, those are different problems. Larian’s 2024 notes describe several specific fixes—not one universal “Long Rest not working” bug that was fixed for every player.
Identify what is actually failing
“Baldur’s Gate 3 long rest not working” can describe several different symptoms. Pin down which one you see before changing your save or mods:
- The rest action is unavailable or blocked: read the exact on-screen message and note your location and story state.
- You reach camp, but cannot choose or spend supplies: inspect the supply selector and where your food supplies are stored.
- The rest completes, but a quest or character state does not change: this is a progression issue, not necessarily a failed Long Rest.
Larian’s Patch 1 notes address a message shown when trying to rest in a zone where resting is impossible. Patch 6 separately documents supply-menu improvements and an intentional restriction on resting while the Emerald Grove is hostile. Neither note establishes a single cause for every player’s symptom. When the game blocks the rest action
Check the area and current story state first. Resting may be deliberately unavailable; Patch 6 specifically says Long Rest and waypoint use are disabled while the Emerald Grove is hostile. If the game gives a location- or state-based message, treat it as a restriction to resolve in the game rather than evidence of a broken rest system. Patch 1 also records a fix to the message displayed when a player tries to rest in a prohibited zone.

- Define the future of the Forgotten Realms - through your choices, and the roll of the dice. No matter who you play, or what you roll, the world and its inhabitants will react to your story
- Player-initiated turn-based mode - allows you to pause the world around you at any time even outside of combat. Split your party, prepare ambushes, sneak in the darkness -- create your own luck!
When you reach camp but the supply selector fails
Check whether you have enough camp supplies and whether they are in the inventory location the selector can access. Patch 6 says Larian improved the Long Rest supply menu’s ability to retrieve supplies from containers in companion inventories and made automatic supply selection use resources more optimally. That addresses a specific supply-handling behavior; it does not show that every camp-menu problem has the same cause or that supplies are needed outside the game.
For local multiplayer, Patch 1 separately corrected Camp Supply values for the second player. If the displayed supply total seems wrong in local co-op, record which player’s value is affected when reporting it.

Check mods and multiplayer setup
If the problem began after an update and the save uses mods, test whether it persists with mods uninstalled or updated. Larian’s support guidance points players toward this check when troubleshooting new issues. Back up your saves before changing a modded setup; this is a prudent precaution, not a guarantee about how a particular save will behave.
For modded multiplayer, every player needs the same mods and exact versions. Larian’s Patch 8 announcement, which calls Patch 8 the final major content patch, reiterates that cross-play participants using mods must have matching versions. Supported mods can be updated through the in-game Mod Manager. Check the current Larian support hub and Patch 8 announcement for current guidance.

What the 2024 fixes do—and do not—establish
The relevant official notes cover distinct issues. Patch 6 (February 16, 2024) improved camp-supply handling and describes the hostile-Emerald-Grove restriction. Hotfix 25 (April 10, 2024) fixed a separate issue in which Us could remain in the party after the tutorial and cause some cases where Short Rest was blocked. That Hotfix 25 note is not a Long Rest fix. These entries do not support saying that all Long Rest problems were fixed in 2024.
The support hub listed Hotfix 36 when checked on October 4, 2026; updates and mod compatibility can change. Use the live hub for current notices rather than assuming an older patch note covers your version. Larian’s Hotfix 25 notes
Quick Recap
How to report a Long Rest problem that persists
- Note your setup: record platform, game version, single-player or multiplayer mode, and whether the save uses mods.
- Capture the failure: write down the exact message or describe the step that fails, plus your location and relevant quest or story state.
- Make it reproducible: list the actions that lead to the issue and, if relevant, whether it still happens after testing without mods.
- Submit it through Larian: open the support hub and follow its “How to submit a Bug Report” guidance. The hub also links to “Mod Issues” and “Official Mod Support.”
