Baldur’s Gate 3 Patch 8 launched on April 15, 2025 for PC, Mac, PlayStation 5, and Xbox. It added 12 subclasses—one for each playable class—along with cross-play, Photo Mode, an Xbox Series S split-screen option, and updates to the official modding Toolkit.
When did Baldur’s Gate 3 Patch 8 come out?
Patch 8 began rolling out on April 15, 2025, to PC, Mac, PS5, and Xbox, according to Larian Studios’ release announcement and its official news listing. Larian had previewed the update on November 27, 2024, saying it would arrive the following year.
The update was a free game patch, not a separately announced paid expansion. Larian described it as the final major patch and said: “Outside of minor bug fixing, Patch 8 will be the last game patch to introduce new content.” That statement concerns new content and significant changes; it does not mean all minor fixes or support necessarily stopped on launch day.

Which subclasses did Patch 8 add?
Each playable class received a subclass. Larian’s descriptions present their intended themes and abilities, not a comparative balance ranking.

What else was included in Patch 8?
Cross-play across PC, Mac, Xbox, and PS5
Players on PC, Mac, Xbox, and PlayStation 5 can join multiplayer sessions across platforms through Larian Network lobbies. To set it up, connect the relevant platform account to a Larian account and enable the Cross-Play option. Larian also describes cross-platform progression as part of the feature.

Modded cross-play has an important compatibility requirement: everyone joining a session must have the same versions of the mods installed. Consoles have a 100-mod limit and do not support third-party mods. Consult Larian’s Patch 8 notes for the official setup and mod details.

Photo Mode lets players arrange party members, change poses and expressions, and adjust camera, lens, and scene settings. It can be used during combat. In dialogue and cinematic scenes, party positioning and camera angle cannot be changed, though post-processing effects remain available. Larian says the release version includes more than 300 stickers.

Captured images are stored differently by platform: console screenshots go to the system media gallery, while PC and Mac use Baldur’s Gate 3 screenshot folders. The announcement includes the platform-specific details.
Xbox Series S split-screen
Patch 8 added a split-screen option for Xbox Series S. The feature is part of the update’s platform-specific improvements rather than a new subclass or separate game mode.

Official modding Toolkit changes
The Toolkit update adds partial level editing and support for selected template types in existing levels. Its scope is limited: Larian says the official Toolkit cannot add dialogue or change static world elements such as buildings, scenery, or terrain.
Is Patch 8 the last Baldur’s Gate 3 update?
It is the last major patch Larian said would introduce new content. The studio also said there would be no more new narrative content or significant changes to storylines, Origin characters, or companions, aside from minor bug fixing. That is narrower than a promise that no future maintenance update could ever appear.

How Patch 8 was announced
- November 27, 2024: Larian previewed Patch 8 and said it was planned for the following year, alongside a planned early-January stress test. See Community Update #30.
- April 15, 2025: Larian announced the final patch and rollout to PC, Mac, PS5, and Xbox. Xbox Wire also published a Larian-authored Xbox announcement confirming it was live on Xbox.
