Battle.net Slow Downloads? How to Fix Slow Call of Duty: Warzone Downloads

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

If Call of Duty: Warzone is downloading slowly through Battle.net, first check that the launcher is not limiting its own bandwidth. Then pause other downloads, test your connection, and check whether Battle.net is downloading data or busy patching files. These steps apply to the current game Activision calls Call of Duty: Warzone; “Warzone 2” is still a common legacy name. Activision’s [Warzone support hub](https://support.activision.com/content/atvi/support/web/en/warzone-2.html) uses the current name.

Try these quick fixes first

  1. In Battle.net, open Settings → Downloads and check Network Bandwidth. Disable any download limit, or remove a numeric cap if the client provides one.
  2. Pause downloads in other launchers and close large uploads, streaming, and cloud-sync apps.
  3. Pause and resume the Warzone download, then restart Battle.net if the rate does not change.
  4. Use Ethernet if available; otherwise move closer to the router and test Wi-Fi again.
  5. Check [Activision Online Services](https://support.activision.com/onlineservices.html) and [Blizzard support notices](https://us.support.blizzard.com/en/search?g=services&q=Slow+Game+Download&source=articles) before deleting files or reinstalling.

None of these steps can make the download faster than your available internet connection or fix congestion on Activision’s or Blizzard’s side. A slow rate can also reflect local disk activity or patch processing rather than a network fault.

Work out what “slow” means

Compare the units

Internet plans and speed tests usually report megabits per second (Mbps), while download clients may show megabytes per second (MB/s). There are eight bits in a byte, so 100 Mbps is a theoretical maximum of about 12.5 MB/s before overhead. That is a unit conversion, not a promise that Battle.net will sustain that rate.

Compare the right measurements

A speed test uses a different server and route from Battle.net, so one fast test does not prove the game download should run at the same rate. If a browser works normally but Battle.net is slow, possible causes include a client limit, a busy game-download route, file processing, or disk activity.

  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Watch for patch processing

A download may alternate between receiving data and verifying, decompressing, or writing files. If Battle.net’s network rate drops while Task Manager shows heavy disk use, give the process time to finish rather than cancelling repeatedly. A status such as “Initializing” or “Updating” with little network activity is not necessarily an internet problem.

Remove Battle.net’s download limit

  1. Open the Battle.net desktop app.
  2. Open Settings → Downloads.
  3. Find the bandwidth controls under Network Bandwidth.
  4. Disable the option that limits download bandwidth, or remove the numeric cap if your version shows one. If prompted, apply or save the change.
  5. Pause and resume the Warzone download. If it remains slow, exit Battle.net completely and reopen it.

Battle.net’s labels and controls can vary by client version; do not assume that a particular numeric value means “unlimited.” Blizzard lists slow patch downloads separately from “Initializing” and failed-transfer problems in its [download support search](https://us.support.blizzard.com/en/search?g=services&q=Slow+Game+Download&source=articles).

Stop other traffic competing for bandwidth

For a useful test, temporarily make the PC the only device doing demanding online work. Pause Steam, Epic Games Store, Microsoft Store, Windows Update, and other game downloads. Close cloud-sync or backup apps such as OneDrive, Dropbox, Google Drive, and iCloud, along with torrent clients, streams, large uploads, and live broadcasts. If practical, pause heavy use on other household devices too.

If Battle.net’s rate improves right away, the connection was likely being shared or saturated. Activision’s [connection guidance](https://support.activision.com/onlineservices.html) recommends limiting bandwidth-heavy applications.

Test Ethernet or improve Wi-Fi

  1. If possible, connect the PC directly to the router with an Ethernet cable and compare the download.
  2. If you must use Wi-Fi, use the 5 GHz or 6 GHz band when you are close enough for a strong signal, and move the PC nearer the router.
  3. Avoid a weak repeater or congested wireless bridge while testing. Restart the modem and router according to their manufacturer’s instructions.
  4. If the slowdown is intermittent, compare the result at a different time of day.

Ethernet is a useful stability test, not a guarantee of higher speeds. Activision also recommends a wired connection and restarting the router in its [online-services guidance](https://support.activision.com/onlineservices.html). A new router, mesh kit, or Wi-Fi generation helps only if your current equipment or coverage is the bottleneck; it cannot fix a busy download server or a limited internet plan.

Restart Battle.net, the PC, and network equipment

  1. Pause the download in Battle.net.
  2. Exit Battle.net completely, including its system-tray process.
  3. Restart the PC.
  4. Power-cycle the modem and router using the manufacturer’s instructions.
  5. Wait for the internet connection to return, reopen Battle.net, and resume the download.

Blizzard’s [installation and patching guidance](https://us.support.blizzard.com/en/help/article/320290) includes restarting the computer among its troubleshooting steps.

Check whether services or a new patch are the cause

Visit [Activision Online Services](https://support.activision.com/onlineservices.html) and the [Warzone support hub](https://support.activision.com/content/atvi/support/web/en/warzone-2.html) for current status information and known issues. Blizzard’s [support search](https://us.support.blizzard.com/en/search?g=services&q=Slow+Game+Download&source=articles) covers Battle.net download and patch problems. A major update can also put demand on download services. Do not treat a slow rate as proof of an outage unless an official status page or announcement confirms one; if the service is affected, local settings cannot resolve it.

Check the drive and patch activity

  • Make sure the installation drive has enough free space for the update and the files it needs to process. Requirements vary with updates, so do not rely only on the displayed download size.
  • In Task Manager, compare disk and network activity while Battle.net appears slow. Heavy disk use can indicate writing, verification, or decompression.
  • A nearly full or busy drive can slow installation work. An SSD may help with local file handling, but it cannot increase network throughput.
  • Avoid repeatedly cancelling and restarting the update, and do not delete the Warzone folder unless you have a clear recovery plan.

If you need to install the game, Activision’s [installation instructions](https://support.activision.com/warzone-2/articles/warzone-2-installation-and-setup) describe the Battle.net path: open All Games, select Call of Duty: Warzone, and choose Install.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Repair local files with Scan and Repair

  1. In Battle.net, select Call of Duty: Warzone.
  2. Open the gear or options menu near the Play or Update button.
  3. Choose Scan and Repair if it is available, start the scan, and let it finish.
  4. Retry the update.

Activision recommends Scan and Repair for the Battle.net version in its [Warzone PC troubleshooting guide](https://support.activision.com/warzone-2/articles/warzone-2-pc-troubleshooting). It checks or repairs local game files; it does not fix an ISP outage, a congested download route, or an account problem.

Check security software, VPNs, and proxies carefully

Antivirus and other background software

If your network is otherwise working but Battle.net cannot transfer or patch files, check whether third-party security software is interfering. Follow the security vendor’s instructions for a temporary test. If an exception is needed, make it narrowly for the relevant Blizzard application or game folder, then restore protection and reassess. Do not leave antivirus disabled as a permanent fix. Activision’s [PC troubleshooting guide](https://support.activision.com/warzone-2/articles/warzone-2-pc-troubleshooting) discusses antivirus exceptions and lists potentially conflicting applications, including NZXT CAM, MSI Afterburner, and Razer Cortex.

VPN and proxy

Disconnect from a VPN for a controlled comparison if you can do so safely. A VPN can change the route to Blizzard’s servers and may make the download slower; use it again only if it is required or a repeatable test shows a better result. Disable a proxy only if it is not required by your workplace or school. Blizzard’s [patching guidance](https://us.support.blizzard.com/en/help/article/320290) includes disabling interfering proxies as a troubleshooting step.

DNS

Changing DNS is not a reliable way to raise sustained download throughput. DNS may affect how a service is initially located, but it generally does not speed up an established file transfer. Avoid random DNS changes, registry edits, and unofficial “speed booster” utilities as first-line fixes.

Use the exact Battle.net error code

If Battle.net displays a transfer error, record the complete code and message, including every character in codes such as BLZBNTAGT or BLZBNTBNA. Search Blizzard Support for that exact code rather than applying generic registry edits or deleting random folders. Blizzard’s [download troubleshooting search](https://us.support.blizzard.com/en/search?g=services&q=Slow+Game+Download&source=articles) includes dedicated results for multiple launcher and transfer errors.

Test another network and decide where to escalate

If the problem persists, a phone hotspot can help separate a home-network issue from a Battle.net or PC issue. Use it only as a brief diagnostic: a Warzone download can consume substantial mobile data.

What you observe Likely area to investigate Next step
Battle.net stays at a stable, unusually low rate Client bandwidth limit Check Settings → Downloads.
Speed improves when other devices stop using the connection Local bandwidth contention Pause competing downloads and heavy use.
Ethernet is much faster than Wi-Fi Wireless signal or interference Use Ethernet or improve Wi-Fi coverage.
Network activity falls as disk use rises Patch processing or storage Let Battle.net finish writing or verifying files.
Other games and websites are slow too PC, router, or ISP connection Restart network equipment; contact your ISP if the problem persists.
Only Warzone is slow Battle.net, the update route, or local game files Check service status, restart Battle.net, then try Scan and Repair.
A hotspot is faster than the home connection Home Wi-Fi, router, or ISP route Investigate the home network or ask the ISP about the route.

If the issue remains, contact Blizzard or Activision support with the exact error, Battle.net and Windows versions, the Warzone update involved, connection type, speed-test result and units, and whether Ethernet or another network changed the result. Include screenshots of Battle.net’s rate and status. Activision’s [PC troubleshooting page](https://support.activision.com/warzone-2/articles/warzone-2-pc-troubleshooting) links to relevant support paths.

Should you buy a router or other hardware?

Do not buy hardware until a test points to a local Wi-Fi or equipment problem. If Ethernet fixes the slowdown, a suitable cable is usually the simplest test. Consider a router or mesh system only if coverage is poor across multiple rooms or devices. A mesh system can still be limited by wireless backhaul; wired backhaul is preferable where practical. No cable or router can overcome a Battle.net service problem, ISP congestion, or a capped internet plan.
