If you already own a legitimate copy of Battlefield 2, the reported no-disc route is to install the game’s final official update, version 1.50. A retrospective technical guide says this patch removes the disc check. If you cannot install because your computer has no optical drive, an external USB DVD drive can read your original disc—but it does not remove the launch-time disc check.
Already installed, but the game asks for the disc?
Look for the final official update, version 1.50. GameFront lists its release date as September 1, 2009, and TweakGuides says the update removes the disc check: GameFront’s Battlefield 2 v1.50 patch archive and TweakGuides’ patch guide.

Use the patch rather than a third-party replacement executable. The cited sources are historical; the available evidence does not establish that a particular surviving mirror is safe, intact, or compatible with every current Windows setup. Verify the download source and file integrity before installing it. No current EA-hosted patch-notes page is established here.
Need to install from your original disc, but have no disc drive?
An external USB DVD drive may let a computer without a built-in optical drive read an owned installation disc. That solves access to the installation media only. Once the game is installed, the reported way to remove the disc check is still update 1.50.

EA forum discussions include owners asking how to install from their original Battlefield 2 discs without a DVD drive. They do not establish a current official digital installer: EA forum discussion about Battlefield 2.
Can you get Battlefield 2 from EA now?
In the cited forum replies, EA representatives say the game is no longer supported and is not available through Origin or the EA app. One DICE Team representative wrote, “We dont support Battlefield 2 anymore and sadly the game is not on Origin.” These are statements in forum replies, not a guarantee about future availability: EA Forums and EA forum discussion about downloading Battlefield 2 another way.

If you do not own the game, a used physical copy is a possible route to investigate, but current stock, seller legitimacy, and whether an old key can be activated or redeemed are not established. Do not assume that buying a second-hand key will add the game to an EA account.
