If Battlefield 6 voice chat is not working, first check the game’s Settings > Audio > Voice Chat options. Then follow the path that matches the problem: a microphone others cannot hear, incoming voice you cannot hear, or a squad/party channel that is not active. Windows microphone permissions and PS5 console controls are separate checks; no single setting is a universal fix.
Start with Battlefield 6’s voice-chat settings
- Open Settings > Audio and scroll to Voice Chat. Make sure Enable Voice Chat is on, then check the voice volume. EA’s Battlefield 6 settings guide documents these controls.
- Check the microphone mode and make sure it matches how you intend to speak:
- Off mutes your microphone.
- Open Mic transmits when your input is above the Microphone Threshold. If it is not picking up speech, review the threshold.
- Push To Talk transmits only while you hold the assigned button. Confirm the assignment and hold that button while speaking.
EA’s guide describes Open Mic this way: “your voice will be transmitted if it’s above your Microphone Threshold setting.” It says Push To Talk transmits “when you’re holding your assigned push to talk button.”
If teammates cannot hear your microphone
Work through the outgoing-audio path: confirm voice chat is enabled, your mode is not Off, and the threshold or Push To Talk action is appropriate. Check that the intended microphone is selected and not muted in your platform’s input controls.
On Windows, allow microphone access
Battlefield’s voice setting cannot override Windows privacy permissions. On Windows 11, open Settings > Privacy & security > Microphone; on Windows 10, open Settings > Privacy > Microphone. Check microphone access and, where applicable, desktop-app microphone access. Labels can vary by OS version. Microsoft ended support for Windows 10 on October 14, 2025; that date does not change the permission check itself. See Microsoft’s microphone permission instructions.

On PS5, check the selected input and mute status
PS5 has microphone controls for the selected input device, microphone status, and level. Check those controls, including whether the DualSense controller’s built-in microphone is the input you intend to use. PlayStation’s PS5 audio settings guide covers console audio and microphone controls.
If you cannot hear other players
Confirm Enable Voice Chat is on and raise the game’s voice volume if needed. On PS5, also check the Control Center’s Sound setting for Mute Game Voice Chat and the available game-chat audio controls. PlayStation party voice chat and game voice chat are separate controls, so check the one that matches the channel you are trying to hear. A working microphone indicator, by itself, does not establish that your incoming audio is configured correctly.

Make sure you and your squad are using the same channel
EA says Battlefield 6 voice chat is available with squad or party players. Check that you are in the expected squad or party and have not muted the player you are trying to hear. EA’s voice-chat guide explains the available voice-chat context.
In REDSEC, proximity chat is available only in select modes and is not available while using the Party voice-chat channel. Proximity chat and squad/party voice chat are distinct; being in one does not mean the other is active. See EA’s REDSEC information for the mode-specific details.

Recheck settings after an update
If the problem began after a game update, revisit the displayed microphone mode and voice-chat channel rather than assuming the update caused a general defect. EA’s update 1.2.2.0 notes say descriptions of microphone modes in Voice Chat settings were corrected. The update 1.4.3.0 notes say solo players and parties default to Game voice chat. Those notes document setting changes, not proof of a current widespread voice-chat problem.

If the microphone is not detected or also fails outside Battlefield 6, test another known-working input device if you have one. A headset with a microphone is one possible input device, but replacing hardware is not the default answer to a game setting, Windows permission, mute, or channel mismatch. No particular headset model is established as compatible or necessary here.
