Grant Taylor-Hill’s launch-period review of Battlefield REDSEC is a qualified recommendation: he scored it 8/10, praising the fun of its Battlefield-style destruction, movement, vehicles, and varied map while finding its battle-royale systems and progression strikingly familiar from Call of Duty: Warzone. His “Warzone-coded” label describes that resemblance, not a claim that the games are identical.
What does “Warzone-coded” mean in this review?
For Taylor-Hill, the resemblance comes from a collection of familiar battle-royale and progression systems rather than one defining feature. His October 29, 2025 review points to battle passes, missions, loadout features, killstreaks, and double-XP tokens as examples. He wrote, “It’s Warzone-coded, and in many ways, that makes sense, because the leadership team piecing REDSEC together has that in their blood.” (Insider Gaming, October 29, 2025.)
His criticism is that REDSEC does not substantially innovate on the battle-royale formula. He does not call it a bad game or claim that its systems are unique to Warzone; his point is that much of the structure will feel recognizable to players who know the genre.
How does a REDSEC match play?
The review describes a conventional battle-royale loop: parachute from a helicopter, choose where to land, loot crates, complete missions, fight other squads, and stay ahead of a lethal boundary that closes around the map. The reviewed version also carried over Battlefield 6 weapons, characters, equipment, vehicles, and movement.

Fort Lyndon adds missions for powerful vehicles such as tanks, custom weapon drops, and kits that let players upgrade weapons during a match. These features sit within the familiar loop rather than changing its basic shape.
What does Battlefield bring to the formula?
Destruction and combat
Taylor-Hill’s strongest case for REDSEC is how Battlefield mechanics affect fights. Destruction gives combat a distinctive texture, while fluid movement and vehicle encounters help the mode feel connected to Battlefield rather than like a bare reskin of a generic battle royale. The reviewer also notes a learning curve around destruction, movement, and weapon handling.

Fort Lyndon’s size and variety
The review praises Fort Lyndon as a large, varied map with urban, natural, mountainous, and desert areas. Taylor-Hill judged it spacious enough for the player count without feeling excessively large. That mix gives squads different kinds of terrain to navigate, though the review does not claim the map eliminates familiar battle-royale pacing.
What problems did the reviewer encounter?
In the launch-period version he played, Taylor-Hill reported packet loss and rubber-banding, floating custom weapon drops, duplicate weapon crates, players falling below the map, and redeploy towers that sent teammates into the lethal ring. These are observations from his review, not confirmation of how often the problems occurred or whether they persist in later builds.

Is REDSEC worth trying?
Taylor-Hill’s answer is yes: he describes REDSEC as an enjoyable, accessible entry with recognizable Battlefield strengths, and recommends trying the free-to-play game. He wrote, “For now, it’s a great Battle Royale title that has everything you’d expect from a Battlefield bolt-on, and I’m certainly going to invest more than a few hours into it.” (Insider Gaming, October 29, 2025.)
His enthusiasm comes with a caveat about repetition: the core loop can be fulfilling, but battle royale matches may grow dull over time. He suggests considering a battle pass only if you expect to put several hours into the game. The review does not establish current pass pricing or contents.
Review score: 8/10, awarded by Grant Taylor-Hill for Insider Gaming on October 29, 2025. This is one reviewer’s launch-period assessment, not a measure of broader critic or player consensus.
