What is Battlestar Galactica: Scattered Hopes?
Developed by Alt Shift and published by Dotemu in collaboration with Universal Products & Experiences, Battlestar Galactica: Scattered Hopes launched for Windows PC on Steam on May 11, 2026. It begins amid the destruction of the Twelve Colonies, with the player in command of a survivor fleet pursued by the Cylons. The fleet’s objective is to make it to the Battlestar Galactica.
The game frames that journey as a struggle to preserve a vulnerable fleet, not a conventional space-combat power fantasy. Its survival pressure comes from decisions made both between battles and during them.

Manage the fleet between attacks
In the management phase, you send expeditions to find resources, decide how to allocate supplies and personnel to crises, upgrade ships, and train crew. Those choices compete for limited resources: addressing one urgent problem can leave less available for another need.

The game also uses procedural narrative design and crisis decisions to vary the journey. Dotemu describes its runs this way: “No two runs in Battlestar Galactica: Scattered Hopes are ever the same.” Unlockable starting fleets, squadrons, weapons, traits, and meta upgrades give later attempts additional options.
Coordinate real-time battles
When the Cylons attack, you coordinate squadrons and Gunstar strikes in real time. Tactical pause lets you inspect enemy movement and incoming attacks before deciding what to do next. The intended battle objective is to hold out until an FTL jump is possible, rather than eliminate an overwhelming enemy force. Universal Products & Experiences summarized the combat idea in its August 19, 2025 announcement as “resist until you can jump.”

This is not described as turn-based combat. The pause is a way to assess a real-time encounter and issue decisions, while the larger challenge is balancing the immediate fight against the fleet’s ability to endure the next crisis.
Is there a demo, and what comes with the game?
Steam lists a demo. Dotemu says the launch demo was updated and progress from the previous demo carries over to the full game. Steam also lists the official soundtrack and digital artbook as additional content; Dotemu identifies both as contents of the Commander Bundle. The available official information establishes digital extras, not a physical edition.

PC platform and requirements
The game is listed for Windows PC on Steam. At the time of the listing described by Steam, minimum requirements were Windows 10, a 64-bit system, 12 GB of RAM, an Intel Core i7-11700K or AMD Ryzen 7 5800X processor, and an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 with 6 GB or AMD Radeon RX 580 with 4 GB. Steam also lists recommended hardware. Requirements can change, so consult the live listing before buying.

Who is Scattered Hopes for?
The game’s defining appeal is the tension between managing a fleet and surviving tactical encounters. It is a stronger fit for players interested in resource trade-offs, crisis decisions, and real-time battles with tactical pause than for someone seeking a straightforward combat campaign. Its run variation and unlocks offer reasons to try different approaches, while the central objective remains survival and the effort to reunite with Galactica.
It is a PC release, so players on other platforms should not assume a version is available based on the Steam listing. The official product information cited here does not establish a console release.
