bcgcb473.dll is associated with BCGControlBar, a third-party C++ user-interface library used inside other Windows applications. It is not a normal Windows system file, and BCGControlBar is generally a developer component rather than a standalone program you launch yourself.
Which fix applies to you
Use this list to choose the safest starting point:
- The error names a specific program or game: Repair that program, verify its files through its launcher, or reinstall it from the publisher.
- The error appeared after antivirus detection: Check Windows Security Protection History and confirm whether the DLL was quarantined.
- The application opens but reports a dependency or runtime error: Install the prerequisite runtime requested by the application, commonly the matching Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable.
- The program was moved, cleaned, or restored from backup: Reinstall it to its original location instead of copying a DLL from another computer.
- The message says “bad image” or “not designed to run on Windows”: Suspect corruption or an architecture mismatch and reinstall the application.
- Several Windows applications are failing: Check Windows component health with DISM and System File Checker.
- The error began after a driver or Windows update: Update or roll back the affected driver, but do not expect a driver update to supply
bcgcb473.dll. - You do not know which application owns the file: Identify the program shown in the error, inspect recently installed applications, and check the executable’s installation folder.
The correct repair is normally to restore the complete application installation that originally supplied the DLL.

What bcgcb473.dll is
The filename is identified in file indexes as a BCGControlBar DLL and as part of BCGControlBar Dynamic Link Library. BCGControlBar is a C++ user-interface library that developers incorporate into Windows software.
That means the file is usually private to an application. It normally belongs beside the affected program’s executable or in one of that program’s installation folders. It should not automatically be placed in:
C:WindowsSystem32
or:
C:WindowsSysWOW64
There is no verified Microsoft or BCGSoft download package specifically intended to provide bcgcb473.dll as a standalone repair. Public reports also do not establish one definitive consumer application that always uses this filename.
Do not assume that every copy with the same name is interchangeable. The correct file depends on the application, its build, its dependencies, and whether the application is 32-bit or 64-bit.

Windows 11 application repair
- Close the application and any launcher associated with it.
- Open Start.
- Select Settings.
- Select Apps.
- Select Installed apps.
- Find the application that reports the error.
- Select the three-dot button beside it.
- Choose Advanced options, if available.
- Select Repair.
- Start the application again.
The Repair option attempts to restore damaged program files without removing your application data. If the error remains, return to the same screen and select Reset only if you understand that it may remove application settings or locally stored data.
Windows 10 application repair
- Open Start.
- Select Settings.
- Select Apps.
- Select Apps & features.
- Select the affected application.
- Choose Advanced options, if available.
- Select Repair.
- Test the application again.
Traditional desktop program repair
Some installers expose repair from Control Panel instead:
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type:
appwiz.cpl
- Press Enter.
- Find the affected program.
- Right-click it.
- Choose Repair or Change.
- Follow the installer prompts.
- Restart Windows if requested.
If there is no Repair option, choose Uninstall, restart the computer, and install the application again from its publisher’s official installer. Use the same edition and architecture as the original program when that choice is offered.
If the program is a game
Open the game launcher and look for a command named Verify files, Verify integrity, Repair, or Scan and repair. The wording varies by launcher.
Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minutePC Slower Than It Used to Be?
A free scan shows the junk files, broken settings and background clutter dragging Windows down - then fixes them in one click.Free scan · Windows 10 & 11Let the verification finish, then start the game from the launcher. This is safer than downloading bcgcb473.dll separately because the launcher restores the game’s complete, matching file set.
If verification does not help:
- Uninstall the game.
- Restart Windows.
- Install it again through the official launcher.
- Apply the launcher’s updates.
- Test the game before adding third-party modifications.
A game or application reinstall remains the definitive fix when that program originally owned the DLL.
Fix 2: Check Windows Security Protection History
Antivirus software can quarantine or delete a DLL after an update, file cleanup, or false detection. Check this before reinstalling random files.
- Open Start.
- Search for Windows Security.
- Open it.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Review recent detections.
- Open any detection that identifies the affected application or its installation folder.
Check the file path carefully. A file inside the legitimate application directory is different from a DLL with the same name found in a temporary folder or an unexpected system directory.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteIf the application is trusted and the detection is clearly associated with its official installation, use the available Restore or Allow on device action. Then repair or verify the application so its complete files are restored.
If you are uncertain about the detection, do not restore the file. Remove the application, run a Windows Security scan, and reinstall the program from its official publisher.
Do not create a broad antivirus exclusion for the entire Windows directory. If an exclusion is necessary, it should be limited and based on instructions from the application vendor.
Fix 3: Install the runtime prerequisite the application actually needs
A missing-DLL message can be misleading. The named bcgcb473.dll file may be present, while another DLL that it requires is missing. Windows then reports that the specified module could not be found.
A Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable package may help when the application was built with Microsoft Visual C++ and its runtime dependency is damaged or absent. It does not supply bcgcb473.dll itself.
Use the application vendor’s instructions first. If the application specifically requests a Microsoft Visual C++ package, download it only from Microsoft’s official Visual C++ Redistributable page.
Microsoft provides packages with names including:
vc_redist.x86.exevc_redist.x64.exevc_redist.arm64.exe
Choose the architecture required by the application, not merely the architecture of Windows. A 32-bit application on 64-bit Windows may require the x86 package. A 64-bit application requires the x64 package. Some applications need more than one runtime.
After installation:
- Restart Windows.
- Run the application’s Repair or Verify function.
- Start the application again.
If the error still identifies bcgcb473.dll, the application’s own files remain the primary suspect.

Fix 4: Check the application architecture and installation path
Do not replace the DLL with a copy from another application.
A 32-bit DLL is not a repair for a 64-bit application, and a 64-bit DLL is not a repair for a 32-bit application. Public listings for this filename have reported conflicting architecture information, so do not rely on a generic download page to determine which copy you need.
To inspect the application:
- Right-click the application shortcut.
- Select Open file location.
- Right-click the application executable.
- Select Properties.
- Open the Details tab.
- Record the product and file information shown there.
- Use the application’s own installer or repair function to restore its files.
If the program was copied from another computer, moved to a different drive, or restored from a partial backup, reinstall it from the original publisher. A DLL may depend on other files that were not copied with it.
If Windows displays a “bad image” or “not designed to run on Windows” message, stop trying replacement DLLs. Repair or reinstall the affected application and make sure its installer matches the system and application architecture.
Fix 5: Update or reinstall related drivers only when the application requires them
A driver is not normally the source of bcgcb473.dll, but some specialized applications depend on graphics, printer, audio, storage, or hardware drivers. If the failure began immediately after a driver change, restore the previous driver or install the correct driver from the hardware manufacturer.
Check drivers in Device Manager
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand the category related to the application.
- Right-click the affected device.
- Select Properties.
- Open the Driver tab.
- Review the driver provider and date.
- Select Update Driver if an update is required.
- Restart Windows.
For a driver that caused the problem:
- Open the device’s Properties.
- Select the Driver tab.
- Select Roll Back Driver, if available.
- Restart Windows.
- Test the application.
Do not use Device Manager to search for bcgcb473.dll. Device Manager manages hardware drivers, not private application libraries.

Manually hunting through hardware websites for matching driver versions can take longer than diagnosing the original application. Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for outdated drivers and show what needs attention; its free scan identifies the issue, while driver installation is handled by the full version. Reinstalling the application remains the definitive fix when that application owns bcgcb473.dll.
Fix 6: Repair Windows components with DISM and SFC
DISM and System File Checker repair protected Windows components. They do not normally restore a third-party application DLL, so use them after repairing the affected program or when several Windows components are also malfunctioning.

- Select Yes if User Account Control appears.
- Enter:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Press Enter.
- Wait for the operation to complete.
Do not close the window while DISM is working. When it reports that the restore operation completed successfully, run SFC:
sfc /scannow
Press Enter and wait for verification to reach 100 percent. Restart Windows afterward and test the application.
Possible results include:
- Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations: Windows protected files appear intact.
- Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files and successfully repaired them: Restart and test again.
- Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them: Run DISM again, restart, and repeat SFC. If the issue continues, repair the application itself.
Repeating SFC without knowing whether anything changed will not replace a third-party DLL. Outbyte PC Repair can scan for Windows problems and show what needs attention; the free scan identifies issues, while repair is handled by the full version. If the missing file belongs to a particular application, reinstalling that application remains the definitive repair.

System Restore is useful when the error began immediately after a driver installation, application update, or system change.
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type:
rstrui.exe
- Press Enter.
- Select Next.
- Choose a restore point created before the error began.
- Select Scan for affected programs if available.
- Review the changes.
- Select Next, then Finish.
System Restore normally preserves personal files, but it can remove applications, drivers, and settings installed after the selected restore point. Use it only when you can connect the bcgcb473.dll failure to a specific recent change.
After restoration, repair or reinstall the affected application if its files remain incomplete.
Do not copy bcgcb473.dll into System32 or SysWOW64
Copying a DLL into a system folder is a common repair-shop mistake because it sometimes changes the error without fixing the application.
Windows normally searches an application’s own directory during DLL loading. A private application DLL placed in a system directory can:
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Load the wrong version for another program.
- Create architecture conflicts.
- Leave dependent files missing.
- Introduce DLL-preloading risk.
- Make future application repairs harder to diagnose.
The names System32 and SysWOW64 are also easy to misunderstand. On 64-bit Windows, System32 contains 64-bit system components, while SysWOW64 contains 32-bit system components. Neither folder is a general-purpose storage location for downloaded application DLLs.
Restore the file beside the executable through the application’s installer instead.
Do not use regsvr32 unless the vendor specifically requires it
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that provide registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer. It is commonly used with certain ActiveX and COM components.
A private framework or runtime DLL such as bcgcb473.dll is not automatically repaired or made usable by registering it. Running this command may produce another error, including a missing entry point or a module-load failure.
Do not run:
regsvr32 bcgcb473.dll
unless the application vendor’s support instructions explicitly tell you to do so and provide the correct file path.
Do not download the DLL from random websites
Downloading an isolated DLL is risky because the file may contain malware, belong to a different application, use the wrong architecture, or require dependencies that are still missing. It can also hide the real cause, such as an incomplete installation or antivirus quarantine.
The safe sources are:
- The affected application’s built-in Repair function.
- Its official launcher’s Verify or Repair command.
- The application publisher’s official installer.
- Microsoft’s official runtime packages when the application requires them.
- Microsoft’s official Windows repair tools.
Never replace a trusted application file with a similarly named file from an unknown source.
Prevention after the repair
Once the application starts normally:
- Keep the application installed in its intended folder.
- Avoid registry cleaners and generic DLL repair utilities.
- Do not move individual DLLs between applications.
- Keep Windows Security active.
- Review antivirus detections before restoring quarantined files.
- Use the application’s own updater or official installer.
- Keep both x86 and x64 runtimes only when installed applications require them.
- Create a restore point before major driver or application changes.
- Keep a record of the application and executable named in the original error.
If the same DLL disappears repeatedly, note its exact path and inspect Protection History. Repeated removal is more important than the filename itself and may indicate antivirus detection, a damaged installation, disk problems, or an untrusted replacement file.

Is bcgcb473.dll a Windows file?
No evidence indicates that it ships as a normal Windows component. Treat it as a third-party application DLL associated with BCGControlBar.
Which program uses bcgcb473.dll?
There is no verified universal consumer application for this filename. The program named in your error, its installation folder, and its official installer are the best ways to identify ownership.
Is BCGControlBar a program I should install separately?
Usually not. BCGControlBar is primarily a developer library incorporated into other Windows applications. Installing a library separately will not necessarily repair the application that needs it.
Can I download bcgcb473.dll by itself?
Do not use random DLL download sites. Restore it through the application’s Repair, Verify, or official reinstall process.
Will Visual C++ Redistributable install this file?
No. A Visual C++ package may restore a missing Microsoft runtime dependency, but it does not directly provide bcgcb473.dll.
Why does Windows say “specified module could not be found” when the file exists?
The named DLL may depend on another DLL that is missing, damaged, or the wrong architecture. Repair the application and install only the prerequisites requested by its publisher.
Should I run regsvr32?
Usually no. Use it only when the application vendor specifically documents registration for that component.
What if the error appears after a game update?
Use the game launcher’s Verify or Repair function first. If that fails, reinstall the game from its official launcher.

What if the error remains after reinstalling?
Record the full error text, the application name, the executable path, and whether the file exists in that application folder. Then contact the application publisher. This information helps determine whether the problem is a missing dependency, architecture mismatch, antivirus action, or a defective application build.
