Start with the in-game tutorial, then play The Fall of the Trident before branching out to skirmishes or multiplayer. That route gives you a guided introduction to controls and combat, then lets you practise at your own pace.
1. Complete the tutorial before starting a match
Open Campaigns → Tutorials from the main menu. The tutorial introduces basic unit selection and control, as well as how to enter combat. Take time to try each command as it appears; learning how to select and direct units makes the rest of the game easier to follow.
2. Begin with The Fall of the Trident
The publisher recommends The Fall of the Trident as the first campaign, followed by its sequel, The New Atlantis. Campaign missions combine a guided progression with the story, making them a natural next step after the tutorial. The official game page describes the campaign as spanning 50 missions; it does not give a publication date for that figure.
3. Choose a practice mode that fits your goal
| Mode | Best for | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| Campaign | Guided missions and story | Start with The Fall of the Trident, then continue to The New Atlantis, as the publisher recommends. |
| Skirmish | Open-ended practice against AI | Choose a pantheon, AI difficulty, and map. The publisher describes this as a quick way to try a pantheon and setting. |
| Quick Match or Ranked | Playing against people | The publisher lists both as ways to find human opponents. They are options, not prerequisites for learning. |
If you want room to experiment without another player, try Skirmish and adjust one choice at a time—for example, keep the map and pantheon the same while you explore a different AI difficulty.

4. Explore pantheons before settling on one
The game’s official page lists four pantheons: Greek, Egyptian, Norse, and Atlantean. The publisher’s beginner guidance points new players to introductory videos in the in-game Learn tab. Sample those introductions and choose the mythology or play experience that interests you; the cited publisher guidance does not identify a universally easiest pantheon.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.5. Treat exact build advice as patch-sensitive
Build orders and unit matchups can depend on game balance. For example, the publisher’s February 10, 2026 Update 18.65484 notes include gameplay and balance changes. If you use a detailed guide, check that it applies to your current game version rather than assuming its timings or recommendations still hold.
