Bellwright’s Maiden Voyage update launched on December 9, 2025, adding the Halmare Isles as a new expedition map and expanding the game’s settlement economy, defenses, combat, and controls. It is a free expansion, not an upcoming release.
What is the Halmare Isles expedition?
Halmare Isles is the update’s central addition: a separate expedition map with new quests, caves, points of interest, creatures, and resources. Its story sends players into a conflict among competing factions seeking the Bellwright’s services. Choices shape branching routes and outcomes, and the update adds temporary and quest companion mechanics alongside a Loyalty & Faction system.

Snail Games USA described the map in 2025 as over 10 square kilometers and roughly 25% the size of the original game. Those are publisher-reported figures, not independent measurements. Snail Games USA’s launch announcement provides that scale estimate.
The new story follows the question posed in the official pre-release announcement: “Where does the story go once the dreadful lord is slain?” The Isles extend the adventure beyond that conflict, without making every route’s outcome identical.

How does the update change settlements and trade?
Caravans and village trade
Caravans and carts give players ways to move goods between settlements and trade with friendly villages. The update also introduces a simulated village economy: villages have needs and production chains, while supply and demand influence a market where players can set buy and sell orders. Meeting needs through production and trade contributes to village prosperity.
Fortifications and outpost defense
Players can build walls and other fortifications to make outposts more defensible. Enemies can attack these structures, so fortification is part of the settlement’s exposure to combat rather than a purely cosmetic building option. The publisher’s preview also described AI behavior for attackers and defenders; see the December 2025 preview for that description.
What changed in character customization and combat?
The update overhauls character creation and NPC visuals, and broadens equipment and combat options. The official Steam launch post and changelog lists crossbows, spears, cloaks, bucklers, and heater shields among the new equipment. Its archery overhaul adds longbow and crossbow support, while new kick and spear-shove abilities add close-combat actions.

Maiden Voyage is broader than the new map. The official changelog also documents dogs and other animals, facial animations during NPC dialogue, camera options, UI changes, map and quest additions, performance work, and modkit updates. When did Maiden Voyage launch, and was there a public test?
The update launched on December 9, 2025, the date given in the official launch post. A December 3 pre-release announcement had said the public test was available through the preview branch and directed interested players to the pinned post in the official Discord preview-branch channel for setup instructions. That was testing context before release, not a current invitation.
Snail Games USA called Maiden Voyage a free expansion in its launch announcement. Creative Director and Project Lead Florian Hoffreither described it as an expansion of both scale and features; that is the developer’s characterization, while the map dimensions above are the publisher’s stated estimate.
How to think about the update’s scope
The easiest way to understand Maiden Voyage is as several kinds of expansion working together: a new exploration-and-story destination, more systems for moving goods and developing villages, buildable defenses, expanded character and combat options, and usability changes such as controller support. The Steam changelog provides the most detailed account of the changes; the publisher announcements explain the launch and the Isles’ scale.

The launch announcement lists full controller support, but the sources do not confirm compatibility for specific controller models. Check a controller’s compatibility with your setup rather than assuming a particular model is verified.
