For a dependable alternative, start with Portal Ops and choose the highest difficulty whose reward tier you can complete consistently. If you want group PvE and higher-quality drops, check the Director for the featured raid and dungeon; for a lower-pressure option, complete destination Public Events and make them Heroic. The best choice depends on the displayed reward, your preferred difficulty, whether you want to repeat an activity, and which content you own.
Bungie’s current language has also changed: “Powerful gear” now loosely means anything that gives your Guardian a Power boost. Check the live reward panel in the Director before choosing an activity, including Dreaming City activities whose individual loot tables Bungie’s public guide does not fully list.
What “Powerful gear” means now
Bungie’s Monument of Triumph FAQ says “Powerful gear now loosely refers to anything that provides your Guardian with a Power boost.” Rather than relying on older checklists of activities labeled “Powerful,” look at the reward and Power information attached to activities in the current Director. Bungie advises players to compare activity rewards and difficulties because they provide different gear Power.
Bungie states the maximum Power cap will remain at 550 for Monument of Triumph in 2026; that update does not raise the cap. For leveling advice, distinguish between gear that raises your Guardian’s Power and activities that drop gear you want for its weapon or armor traits.

Portal Ops: choose the best tier you can repeat
Portal Ops is the clearest starting point if you want to select a difficulty with a known reward-tier relationship. Bungie’s Director guide maps Portal difficulties as follows:

Use that scale to match the activity to your gear and fireteam rather than automatically selecting the hardest option. A higher tier is useful only if you can complete it at a reasonable pace. Portal activities sit alongside Solo, Fireteam, Pinnacle, and Crucible Ops in the Portal hub, so choose the activity format that fits your group and play style, then confirm its reward panel.

Featured raids and dungeons: strong group options, with weekly rules
If you want structured PvE and raid- or dungeon-specific loot, check the featured selections in the Director. Featured status rotates each week, so there is no permanent “best this week” activity. Bungie’s June 2026 update describes featured rewards as farmable in specified cases, but some Director Challenge and hidden-chest rewards are weekly locked. Repeating a featured activity therefore does not mean every reward source inside it can be claimed without limit.
Access depends on the activity. Some raids and dungeons require ownership of an expansion or Dungeon Key. Bungie’s Monument of Triumph and Update 9.7.0 support guide outlines content and access constraints; check the Director’s current listing for the activity you intend to run.

Destination Public Events: a lower-pressure route
For destination play that does not require a raid group, Public Events have a clearly stated baseline in Bungie’s Director guide: base completion gives Tier 3 rewards, while Heroic completion gives Tier 4. Each drop has a chance to upgrade to Tier 5. During a Distortion, those event rewards increase by one tier.
These are destination-wide reward rules, not a Dreaming City-specific list of guaranteed items. Bungie names Blind Well among destination activities that distribute tiered rewards, but its public guide does not provide a complete current, activity-by-activity Dreaming City loot table. Inspect the live Director reward display before deciding whether a Dreaming City activity meets your gear target.

Seasonal Hub challenges and the Reward Pass
Bungie points returning Guardians to the Seasonal Hub for daily and weekly challenges that support Power growth, and says the Reward Pass includes Power progression rewards. Check the current challenge objectives and reward descriptions in-game; older vendor-bounty checklists may not reflect the current progression system.
Targeting a weapon while you gain Power
If your priority is a particular weapon, use free Attunement when that weapon is in an eligible active loot pool. Attunement raises the selected weapon’s chance of dropping from eligible activity rewards; it does not guarantee a drop. Bungie says you can change the selection without cost or limit. How to pick the right activity
- Set your goal. Decide whether you need a Power boost, a particular weapon or armor piece, or simply a repeatable activity.
- Compare the live reward display. In the Director, check the reward tier and any listed target gear for the activity. Do this for Dreaming City activities too; Bungie’s general destination rules do not establish their full individual loot tables.
- Match the difficulty to your group. For Portal Ops, use Bungie’s Tier 1–5 mapping and choose the highest difficulty you can reliably clear. For raids or dungeons, factor in the group and mechanics required.
- Check whether rewards can be repeated. Featured raids and dungeons rotate weekly, and some challenge or hidden-chest rewards are weekly locked even where specified activity rewards are farmable.
- Confirm access and target loot. Verify expansion or Dungeon Key requirements, and enable weapon Attunement if the weapon you want is eligible.
