For most buyers who want a premium wireless ASTRO headset without HDMI video switching, the A50 Gen 5 is the more sensible pick. Choose the A30 for a portable LIGHTSPEED-and-Bluetooth option, the A20 X for a lower-priced wireless alternative, or the wired A10 for the simplest budget setup.
The key choice is not which model has the biggest specifications: it is whether you need the A50 X’s HDMI switching. Logitech’s US catalog prices below were observed on August 16, 2026, and promotions can change.
ASTRO headsets at a glance
| Model | Best for | Connection and switching | US price observed August 16, 2026 | Main trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| ASTRO A50 X LIGHTSPEED | Multi-console setups that benefit from switching video and audio together | Wireless; PLAYSYNC switches HDMI video and audio | $399.99 list; $299.99 promotional listing | Costs more and requires HDMI routing through its base |
| ASTRO A50 Gen 5 | Premium wireless audio and audio switching | Wireless; PLAYSYNC AUDIO switches audio, not video | $299.99 list; $249.99 promotional listing | Change the display input separately |
| ASTRO A30 LIGHTSPEED | Mid-range flexibility, Bluetooth and mobile use | LIGHTSPEED wireless and Bluetooth; platform-specific versions | $179.99 list; $89.99 promotional listing | No A50-style base or HDMI video switching |
| ASTRO A20 X LIGHTSPEED | Buyers seeking a less expensive wireless ASTRO model | Wireless; PLAYSYNC AUDIO and LIGHTSYNC RGB | $179.99 list; $149.99 promotional listing | Less detailed independent performance evidence is available here |
| ASTRO A10 Gen 2 | Budget buyers who prefer a cable | Wired 3.5-mm analog connection | US catalog listings around $49.99–$69.99 | No wireless, Bluetooth or platform switching |

Best overall for multiplatform setups: ASTRO A50 X
The A50 X is the strongest ASTRO choice when you want one headset setup to handle multiple systems and you will actually use its defining feature: HDMI-based video-and-audio switching. Logitech says its PLAYSYNC system can switch the video and audio signals from two game consoles together. That distinguishes it from the A50 Gen 5, which switches audio while leaving video input changes to you. See Logitech’s A50 X and A50 comparison.
#1 Best Overall

- On-the-Go Convenience: With an integrated handle and lightweight design (2.8 lbs), our lap desk is portable for travel or moving around the house, offering flexibility in any space.
This makes the A50 X particularly compelling for a household that regularly moves between Xbox and PS5, or between consoles and a PC, through a compatible display arrangement. The official product page lists 40-mm PRO-G Graphene drivers, USB-C PC connectivity, Dolby Atmos or Windows Sonic support on PC, and G HUB customization: ASTRO A50 X product details. Specifications alone do not establish that it sounds better than the A50 Gen 5; Logitech identifies substantial shared headset features, with HDMI processing as the key distinction.
When to choose it
- You regularly change between connected game systems.
- You want the display source to follow the headset’s system selection rather than switching video separately.
- You are comfortable routing HDMI through a base station and checking compatibility with your display and accessories.
When to skip it
For one-console or PC-only use, the HDMI switch may add cost and setup work without solving a problem you have. The A50 X’s premium buys an integrated switching workflow; it should not be treated as a universal sound-quality upgrade over the Gen 5. Logitech’s observed US listing was $399.99 list and $299.99 promotional, so confirm the current price before deciding.
Best premium value: ASTRO A50 Gen 5
The A50 Gen 5 is the better default for buyers who want an A50-class wireless headset and charging base but do not need video to switch along with audio. PLAYSYNC AUDIO handles audio switching across up to three gaming platforms; video remains a separate task. Logitech lists USB-C audio connections, 40-mm PRO-G Graphene drivers, 24-bit-capable wireless audio, a 48-kHz microphone, simultaneous Bluetooth audio and game/chat mixing from the headset. Those are manufacturer specifications, not independent comparative test results. Product details are on Logitech’s A50 Gen 5 page and in its comparison with the A50 X.
At the US prices observed August 16, 2026—$299.99 list and $249.99 promotional—it undercut the A50 X while retaining the core premium A50 features. Buy the A50 X if you need its HDMI video switching; otherwise, the Gen 5 is the more rational premium ASTRO purchase.

A50 X versus A50 Gen 5: which one should you buy?
| Feature | A50 X | A50 Gen 5 |
|---|---|---|
| Wireless headset and charging base | Yes | Yes |
| PLAYSYNC audio switching | Yes | Yes |
| HDMI video switching | Yes | No |
| Switch video and audio together | Yes | No; switch video separately |
| PRO-G Graphene drivers | 40 mm | 40 mm |
| Microphone capability | 48 kHz-capable | 48 kHz-capable |
| Simultaneous Bluetooth | Yes | Yes |
Logitech’s comparison page documents the central distinction: HDMI video-and-audio processing on the X versus audio switching on the Gen 5.
- Need the display source to switch with your audio? Choose A50 X.
- Need premium wireless audio switching, but can change the display input yourself? Choose A50 Gen 5.
- Use one console or mainly a PC? Consider the A50 Gen 5, A30 or a PC-focused competitor before paying for the X’s HDMI feature.
Best mid-range and most flexible: ASTRO A30 LIGHTSPEED
The A30 combines LIGHTSPEED wireless with Bluetooth and is the most natural ASTRO option if you want one headset for gaming and mobile listening without a large A50 base-station setup. ASTRO’s product information lists support for Xbox, PlayStation, PC/Mac and mobile, but the A30 is not one universal console SKU: the Xbox version is listed for Xbox Series X|S and PC/Mac, while the PlayStation version is listed for PS5 and PC/Mac. Some second-console or USB-C configurations may require an additional transmitter. Check the platform details at ASTRO’s product-family site before ordering.
It does not provide the A50 X’s HDMI video switching or the A50-style base experience. That is a reasonable trade if Bluetooth, portability and a lower price matter more than living-room source switching. Logitech’s US listing was $179.99 list and $89.99 promotional on August 16, 2026; that steep discount is a temporary price signal, not a dependable everyday price. Logitech lists A30 support for its mobile app on the ASTRO software page.
Cheaper wireless alternative: ASTRO A20 X LIGHTSPEED
The A20 X is worth comparing if you want wireless ASTRO features below the A50 tier. Logitech’s US catalog identifies it as a LIGHTSPEED headset with PLAYSYNC AUDIO and LIGHTSYNC RGB. Its observed US price was $179.99 list and $149.99 promotional on August 16, 2026; check the current catalog price.

The available product information is less detailed than for the A50 X, A50 Gen 5, A30 and A10. There is not enough comparative evidence here to call the A20 X the best for sound, microphone clarity, comfort, latency or battery life. Treat it as a feature-led option to compare on current price and exact platform needs, rather than as a proven performance winner.
Best budget wired ASTRO headset: A10 Gen 2
The A10 is the straightforward choice if you want to spend less, avoid charging and do not mind a cable. Logitech lists a 3.5-mm five-pole connection, 32-mm neodymium drivers, a 6-mm unidirectional microphone and a weight of 246 grams without the cable. Its compatibility list includes Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Switch and PC/Mac. See the A10 Gen 2 specifications.
It is analog rather than a wireless system: there is no Bluetooth, wireless switching, charging base or software-driven premium wireless feature set. On a PC with separate headphone and microphone ports, use the included splitter cable; on consoles and other devices, connection depends on a suitable 3.5-mm jack or adapter. Logitech catalog listings in the US were around $49.99–$69.99, so confirm the price and exact included accessories before buying.
Which ASTRO headset fits your platform?
Xbox Series X|S
If you also own a PS5 or PC and want coordinated video-and-audio changes, the A50 X is the standout fit. The A50 Gen 5 also supports multi-platform audio switching, but not video switching. For a less elaborate setup, select the Xbox version of the A30; the A10 is the wired alternative. Check the A30 version at ASTRO and the A10’s compatibility at Logitech.

PlayStation 5
For a PS5-only player, the A50 X’s HDMI feature may be unnecessary; compare the A50 Gen 5 and A30 on price and whether you want a base. The A30 PlayStation version is listed for PS5 and PC/Mac. The A10 connects by 3.5 mm.
PC
The A50 X and A50 Gen 5 offer USB-C PC connectivity and G HUB customization, described on their respective A50 X and A50 Gen 5 pages. A PC-only buyer usually has little reason to pay for HDMI console switching; compare the Gen 5 or A30 with PC-oriented alternatives such as Logitech G PRO X 2 LIGHTSPEED, listed at $279.99 in Logitech’s US catalog. That model does not provide the A50 X’s HDMI switcher.
Nintendo Switch
Logitech explicitly lists the A10 as Switch-compatible. A50-family multi-platform claims include Switch and other USB-C audio devices, but the exact experience can depend on the Switch model, docked or handheld use, USB connection and transmitter setup. Confirm the connection path for your configuration rather than assuming every wireless feature works identically in every mode.
Mobile
The A30 is the clearest pick for mobile because its listed feature set includes Bluetooth and mobile support. The A50 X and A50 Gen 5 also support simultaneous Bluetooth, according to Logitech’s comparison material, but their base-station setup is less portable. A30 platform details are at ASTRO; A50 Bluetooth information is in the Logitech comparison.

Software, older models and setup checks
Install the software for the headset generation
The A50 X and A50 Gen 5 use Logitech G HUB and the Logitech G Mobile App; the A30 is listed as compatible with the mobile app. Astro Command Center supports specified older products, including A50 Gen 3, A50 Gen 4 and some A20 configurations, but not the A50 X, A50 Gen 5 or A30. Check Logitech’s software compatibility page rather than installing the older utility by default.
Do not confuse A20 Wireless with A20 X
Logitech listings include both the older A20 Wireless and the newer A20 X LIGHTSPEED. They are different products, and the older A20 is outside the newer G HUB and G Mobile software ecosystem specified for the newer models. Verify the full model name before purchase, especially when shopping older stock.
Plan the A50 X HDMI path before buying
The A50 X’s HDMI switching makes the base part of the video chain. Confirm that your console, display, HDMI cables and any receiver or capture-card arrangement work with the intended routing. HDR, VRR, 4K, high refresh rates and device handshakes can be configuration-dependent; do not assume a specific feature will pass through every combination. Incorrectly connected input/output cables or a display handshake can cause a black screen or delay. If you do not want to troubleshoot HDMI routing, the A50 Gen 5 avoids that part of the setup.
Check transmitters and analog adapters
For the A30, choose the Xbox or PlayStation version that matches your primary console and verify whether a second system needs an additional transmitter. For the A10, check whether the device has a combined 3.5-mm headset jack or needs an adapter; PC users with separate audio and microphone ports should use the splitter.

The A40/A40 TR can still interest buyers who specifically want a wired MixAmp-style setup, but current stock, pricing and support were not established well enough to rank it as a main current pick. Confirm availability before choosing one over the current wireless models. Older A20 and A50 generations may also be available, but verify their exact software support and condition rather than assuming compatibility with the newer Logitech G ecosystem.
For context beyond ASTRO, premium alternatives include SteelSeries Arctis Nova Pro Wireless; PC-oriented buyers may compare Logitech G PRO X 2 LIGHTSPEED. Broader options include Razer BlackShark V3 Pro and SteelSeries Arctis Nova 5. They are alternatives to investigate, not products ranked here through direct comparative testing.
