Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteFor a mostly static nature stream sourced at 30 frames per second, start at 1080p30 with a constant video bitrate of 10 Mbps for AV1 or H.265 (HEVC), or 14 Mbps for H.264. These are YouTube’s general live-ingestion recommendations, not a nature-specific optimum. If your connection cannot sustain the target reliably, try 720p30 at 6 Mbps for AV1/H.265 or 8 Mbps for H.264, then test with representative footage before leaving the stream unattended.
Recommended starting bitrate
YouTube’s current live-encoder guidance recommends the following video input rates at 30 fps:
| Resolution at 30 fps | AV1 or H.265 (HEVC) | H.264 |
|---|---|---|
| 1080p | 10 Mbps | 14 Mbps |
| 720p | 6 Mbps | 8 Mbps |
These are recommended video ingestion bitrates; audio is separate. YouTube also lists lower minimum settings for these two options: at 1080p30, 4 Mbps for AV1/H.265 and 5 Mbps for H.264; at 720p30, 2 Mbps for AV1/H.265 and 3 Mbps for H.264. A minimum is not the recommended target for image quality. Figures are from YouTube Help’s current live-encoder recommendations, accessed in 2026; 2026 is the access year, not a stated publication year. Check YouTube’s live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions for updates.
Why nature footage still needs a real test
A largely static scene may be easier to encode than fast action, but “nature video” does not guarantee low motion. Wind-blown leaves, rippling water, rainfall, insects, or a moving camera can all make fine detail harder to preserve. YouTube does not publish a separate bitrate for nature footage or for streams that run continuously for 24 hours a day.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
So treat 1080p30 as a practical starting point, not a measured best setting. Test clips that resemble the broadcast, including the most detailed movement and, if relevant, changing daylight or night scenes. Compare playback for lost texture, blockiness, and unstable stream health. YouTube advises testing before going live and recommends using audio and movement similar to the actual broadcast.
Choose resolution, frame rate, and codec together
Match the source frame rate
Use the frame rate your source can deliver reliably. A 30 fps nature recording does not need to be sent at 60 fps simply because the encoder offers it. If the camera or video is 60 fps, compare 30 and 60 fps with representative motion: YouTube’s recommended bitrate is higher at 60 fps, and the title alone does not establish that the extra motion detail is worth the additional sustained upload demand.

Use the recommendation for the actual codec
Do not use an AV1 or H.265 bitrate target for an H.264 stream. YouTube’s current guidance lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1; the encoder and selected ingest path must support the codec you choose. For HDR over RTMP(S), YouTube recommends H.265; its listed guidance does not support AV1 for HDR over that path.
Use a lower resolution if the connection is marginal
If your upload cannot hold the recommended 1080p30 rate steadily, a reliable 720p30 stream is preferable to a higher-resolution stream that repeatedly drops frames or disconnects. YouTube’s table gives 6 Mbps for AV1/H.265 or 8 Mbps for H.264 at 720p30. The table is a platform recommendation, not proof that a particular internet connection can sustain that rate around the clock.

Encoder settings that matter
- Rate control: Use constant bitrate (CBR) for RTMP/RTMPS streaming, as YouTube specifies.
- Keyframes: Set a 2-second interval; YouTube says not to exceed 4 seconds.
- Protocol: YouTube recommends RTMPS, the secure extension of RTMP. Its guidance also discusses HLS for cases where an encoder cannot support the specified capabilities over RTMP.
- Audio: YouTube lists AAC or MP3 for RTMP/RTMPS. Its advanced settings recommend 128 Kbps stereo, or 384 Kbps for 5.1 AAC. Add audio bitrate separately; it is not included in the video-rate table.
- Resolution and frame rate: YouTube can detect these automatically. Manual selection is available through a custom stream key.
For full guidance on encoder and ingest settings, refer to YouTube Help. The bitrate sent to YouTube is the input rate, not the rate every viewer receives: YouTube transcodes the incoming live stream into multiple output formats for different devices and network conditions.
Check upload capacity and stream health
A bitrate target only works if the connection can sustain it. Run an upload-speed check on the network and equipment that will actually send the stream, then conduct a real-world test long enough to catch instability. The cited YouTube guidance does not establish a universal bandwidth reserve or hardware setup for 24/7 operation, so do not treat a single speed-test result as a guarantee.

- Prepare a test using footage with motion and detail like the real nature stream, plus the intended audio.
- Configure the encoder for the chosen resolution, frame rate, codec, CBR, and 2-second keyframes.
- Start a test stream and check YouTube’s stream-health indicators and messages while it runs.
- If the stream is unstable, reduce the target by choosing a lower resolution or a codec-compatible setting your setup can sustain, then test again.
- Before relying on an unattended broadcast, arrange ongoing monitoring and a recovery plan; YouTube’s bitrate guidance does not prescribe a particular 24/7 failover system.
Or let it run in the cloud
