Build around one dependable damage pattern, then choose upgrades that strengthen it. A shield can offer a defensive option, ranged weapons can create room to attack, and a familiar melee weapon can reward well-timed openings—but every approach still requires you to avoid damage and adapt.
How to choose a build for the final boss
Hades gives you temporary Olympian boons to shape a run around your playstyle, rather than a fixed set of upgrades that guarantees a win. The official PlayStation game page describes boons as buffs selected to suit your style. That makes a flexible plan more useful than chasing a supposedly perfect recipe.

Start with the weapon action you reliably use to deal damage—Attack, Special, or another familiar pattern—and prioritize boons that make that action more effective. Avoid spreading upgrades across unrelated actions simply because they appear. Community build discussions likewise recommend adapting to the boons already in a run; treat that as player advice, not an official build formula: community build discussion.
When weighing a setup, consider how safely you can attack, how often you expect to have a chance to deal damage, how much it relies on a specific boon or Hammer upgrade, and whether you can adjust when the run offers something else. Those are practical decision points, not measured rankings.

Build approaches to consider
Defensive Shield of Chaos
If blocking helps you manage exposure, consider the Shield of Chaos and invest in the shield action you land consistently. Players have reported that blocking can help against the final boss’s beam; this is community-reported advice, not a guarantee that the shield blocks every attack. Keep a safe response available for threats you cannot block or do not want to meet head-on. Player discussion of the shield and beam.
Ranged comfort
Choose a ranged weapon, or an aspect that supports a ranged pattern you already understand, if distance helps you find attack opportunities. Range is a way to create room to act, not immunity to damage: keep watching for threats and be ready to reposition. The game’s official description emphasizes its range of mythic weapons and playstyles, but does not identify a top weapon for this fight: Hades on PlayStation.
Rank #2
- Battle beyond the Underworld using dark sorcery to take on the Titan of Time in this bewitching sequel to the award-winning rogue-like dungeon crawler.
Close-range damage
A melee weapon you know well can be a sound choice if you can recognize when it is safe to attack. Focus boons and upgrades on its dependable Attack or Special instead of changing your plan mid-run to pursue an unfamiliar combo. Close range demands more attention to positioning and openings; no source cited here establishes one melee aspect as best.
Run-specific boon synergy
Keep the weapon plan as your anchor, then take available boons that reinforce its main action or complement upgrades already in the run. A named duo boon or particular Hammer upgrade can be a useful bonus, but should not be a requirement for the build to function. If the ideal option does not appear, choose a boon that supports the same core job—more reliable damage with the action you use most, or a tool that helps you stay safe enough to use it.

Turn a promising run into a clear
- Preserve health. Avoid spending health for a marginal attack opportunity; a run’s remaining margin matters more than squeezing in one extra hit.
- Prioritize clear openings. Attack when you can do so without committing to more hits than the opening allows. If an approach feels unsafe, reposition and wait for another chance.
- Do not overcommit. A strong boon does not make every attack worth taking. Make survival part of the damage plan.
- Adapt rather than reset your build. When a desired boon is absent, reinforce the action your weapon already does reliably instead of treating the missing upgrade as a failed run.
Supergiant Games said its version 1.0 release included “an all-new variant of the final boss fight” in its version 1.0 launch announcement. Players therefore should not assume every run or version presents exactly the same encounter. The available sources do not establish reliable attack timings or detailed punish windows, so this guide avoids prescribing a move-by-move sequence.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Why older patch notes are not a build ranking
Supergiant’s historical patch notes document changes to weapon aspects, boons, and the final-boss encounter, including fixes to edge cases. They provide useful context for how the game changed, but an old balance note is not evidence that a build is currently strongest. No cited source provides a reproducible comparison or clear-rate statistic for ranking weapons, aspects, or boon combinations.
