CameraFi Live can start a YouTube study-room broadcast from a phone, but the available documentation does not establish that a phone can run unattended around the clock. Set up and test the broadcast in advance, plan for shorter sessions if you need YouTube’s automatic archive, and treat a true 24/7 stream as a reliability problem—not just an app setting.
Before you start
CameraFi’s July 11, 2025 guide lists an Android smartphone or iPhone, CameraFi Live, a YouTube channel, and YouTube Live access as prerequisites. YouTube says first-time live-stream activation may take up to 24 hours, so enable it well before the planned start and confirm it is available in YouTube Live Control Room. CameraFi’s setup guide and YouTube’s encoder setup help describe the prerequisites.
- Install CameraFi Live from the relevant app store and sign in to the YouTube account that owns or manages the channel. The Google Play listing describes the app as a smartphone recording and broadcasting app and includes YouTube as a destination.
- Complete any YouTube account verification and live-stream enablement steps before launch day.
- Choose whether the phone will film the actual room or whether your setup requires a different source. A phone-based camera broadcast captures the room through the phone; it is not a way to make a prerecorded playlist look like a live camera feed.
Set up CameraFi Live for YouTube
CameraFi’s published flow is to log in, select YouTube, open the camera screen, enter broadcast details, choose a stream type, and start through the relevant YouTube flow. App labels and eligibility can change, so use the current in-app prompts and YouTube Live Control Room if a label differs from the guide.
- Log in and choose YouTube. Open CameraFi Live, sign in, select YouTube as the destination, and authorize the channel you intend to use.
- Open the camera screen and compose the room. Place the phone so the frame shows the study space you want viewers to see. A compatible tripod and phone clamp can help keep a fixed angle; select hardware for your phone’s size and the required placement. Neither the app nor YouTube requires a particular mount.
- Enter stream details. Add a clear title and select the appropriate privacy setting. Check the current CameraFi and YouTube screens for the available options; the 2025 guide describes a “Go Live Now” path and an “Event” path.
- Choose the available stream type and create the stream. Follow the CameraFi prompts to set up the broadcast, then complete the corresponding YouTube steps before going live.
- Run a private or unlisted test first. Verify that the channel, framing, sound, connection, and stream health behave as expected before sharing a public link or relying on the setup for a long session.
Choose quality around upload bandwidth
Plan using upload speed, not download speed. YouTube advises that total stream bitrate must fit within the available upload bandwidth and recommends leaving 20% headroom. Test the actual connection the phone will use at a representative time; other people and devices sharing that connection can reduce the bandwidth available to the stream. - Run an upload-speed check on the intended Wi-Fi or mobile connection rather than relying on the internet plan’s advertised download rate.
- Choose a stream quality whose bitrate leaves the recommended headroom, and test it while other typical network activity is present.
- During the test and broadcast, check YouTube’s stream-health warnings. A speed result is only a snapshot; network interruptions can still disrupt a live stream.
YouTube’s encoder guidance recommends H.264, constant bitrate (CBR), a two-second keyframe interval, and RTMPS for applicable encoder workflows. Those are YouTube recommendations, not assurances that CameraFi exposes the same controls. Use the options CameraFi actually provides, and do not assume a desktop encoder setting can be set or overridden in the phone app. Details are in YouTube’s encoder settings guidance.
Can CameraFi Live run a study stream 24/7?
The cited CameraFi guide explains how to create a YouTube broadcast; it does not establish unattended 24-hour operation, automatic reconnect behavior, or continuous reliability for any specific phone. Battery and charging behavior, heat under sustained use, and the effect of a network interruption depend on the handset and conditions. Test the exact phone, app version, power arrangement, room temperature, and connection you plan to use. Do not treat a successful short test as proof of uninterrupted operation for a full day.

There is also an archive limitation to plan around: YouTube says encoder streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That does not establish a complete automatic archive for one stream lasting 12 hours or longer. If preserving a replay matters, plan shorter sessions and check YouTube’s current behavior rather than promising a full recording of a 24-hour broadcast. YouTube’s encoder setup help describes the under-12-hour condition.
Troubleshoot before relying on a long session
- YouTube is unavailable as a destination: confirm that Live streaming is enabled on the correct channel and that any required account verification is complete. First-time enablement can take up to 24 hours.
- The stream is unstable or shows health warnings: retest upload bandwidth on the phone’s actual network, lower the selected quality if needed, and reduce competing network use. Keep YouTube’s recommended 20% upload headroom.
- The framing changes or the phone shifts: reposition and secure the phone, then repeat the test. A suitable tripod and clamp are optional aids, not a guarantee of a stable broadcast.
- The broadcast stops during an extended run: the cited sources do not confirm CameraFi’s unattended runtime or automatic recovery for a particular device. Check the app’s current behavior and test recovery on your own setup before scheduling a session that cannot be supervised.
- The replay is missing or incomplete: check the session length against YouTube’s stated automatic-archive condition of streams under 12 hours. Do not assume a single longer stream will be archived in full.
